I remember Gordon himself saying the best approach to Jujitsu is "a layered approach." I think the order of operations begins to touch on this:)

It’s unreal how good Mateus is as that left leg aoki. It’s also unreal just how calm and calculated Gordon Ryan is, he makes rolls seem like choreographed fight scenes

Jesus Christ dude. Every time I think you've peaked, you break the ceiling. Doing the month by month breakdown?! SICK! The info?! SICK! Sickness factory. Everything is so slick. (Also, if you're not a scientist, I formally invite you to be one. Obviously the easiest route is social science. Let's get you a doctorate, boooooooooooooi!)

Great video. You ended the video stating that it’s hard to deny that Gordon is having an influence on Maragali and Jiu Jitsu as a whole. I’d argue pretty strongly that it’s Danaher that is the real influence, not Gordon.

One of the big things about wrestling that I havnt heard you talk about is that high level wrestlers are just as good at defending take downs as they are attacking. That isnt the case for many bjj folks. Wrestlers will have higher percentage takedowns in bjj than in a traditional wrestling match because bjj guys dont have high level defense or counter attacks like high level wrestlers do.

The math backs this up. Check out this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g36xgXp9o9CCmbc

This. Defense is one of the things I focused on with my wrestling. I have a decent high c, double leg, and fireman carry ... still working on set ups, but I can go into a wrestling room and defend takedowns for a while. Pure bjj guys have very little chance of taking me down, they don't even stop me from controlling their head which is basic control. Same with my BJJ I have decent offense probably less than your average purple belt but can prevent positions and submissions until I find a counter.

5:34 - Good analysis. It would be helpful to look at the 95% confidence intervals between offense and defense to see if they overlap.

Something I appreciate is how I grasp different things you point out as my understanding of Jiu Jitsu improves. A year ago, much of this would have washed over me in complete confusion. Now, only maybe 60% of it does. 😂

16:11 One thing I've always wondered. Why are they not at all concerned about the ankle lock from bottom side body triangle? Surely I'm missing something here.
@jjrees8 ай бұрын
In Danaher’s New Wave Escapes instructional, he essentially says that it is a feeble submission. The person attempting the ankle lock needs to commit at least one hand to the top-side knee in order to create sufficient tension when they bridge their hips. Since one arm is trapped, they would be using their only remaining defensive hand and likely get strangled before the ankle lock comes on.

A possible reason why there are more cross ashi than 50/50 finishes is becomes it's a riskier position where you have to put a lot of focus on your opponents ability to tap you whilst you are trying to tap them.
