not sure if someone else has already suggested this, but whenever i make a mistake and have to undo/redo knitting, i use a tapestry needle to thread a different color of yarn through a row as a lifeline, then after undoing the remaining stuff you just thread your knitting needle back through along the lifeline and pull that extra thread out and you’re ready to rework!

Love how you’re sharing as you learn. Just a tip about blocking: After gently squeezing water out by hand, I roll it up in a big absorbent towel to get even more water out. This helps immensely. Your vests are adorable!

Thank you so much for the tip! I will try that next time (:

Thanks for the update! Creating a knitting pattern is definitely a long process that takes a lot of tweaks and changes as you go along (so much harder then sewing). I made a vest from a pattern I found online and I was not happy with the results and that's when I found your vest series and I was much happier with the results. Thanks for the extra details you found, I'm a beginner knitter too so it's really helpful!

It certainly is a very slow process - and sometimes you don't even know if you made the right choice until days or even weeks later! Thank you for your comment, I'm so happy my videos are helpful for you. 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you for this video and the additional tips. Now I need to watch the original one. I've been looking for a vest pattern and I think that's the one. For myself I would prefer the ribbing with the side openings, because my interest in ribbing is that it adds an attractive detail and keeps stockinette stich from rolling. Both of yours are lovely.

OK where do I start? I LOOOVE your videos, you are a freaking inspiration to me. I started to learn about knitting in 2016, and I was almost giving up cause all I was ever able to knit was scarfs and things that were straight. Now I'm halfway on this sweater vest and I'm soo happy with the results please don't stop posting new ideas and patterns!!! I love every single little creation that you have posted on your channel and I hope to knit all of them someday! Have a VERY wonderful day

For the new vest in cropped style, I think the closed design works. In a more relaxed fit, detached one looks nicer. Great job!! 👍👍

I love the revised design of this sweater vest♡ Now that I completed knitting two hats for my baby nephews, time to start the vest!! I am going to make it in same design but still in one circular pair of needles in circular knitting! Perhaps it will make this knitting too complicated rather than putting them together? Hmm.. You are so creative, btw! ☺️ Neckline detaila will be helping a lot :)

I knew that I had to wash my finished garment and it might change the size... but didn't know it was THAT important! That is a beautiful sentence on blocking. I think we should use warm water, and wool shampoo for washing...? Thanks for the detail!
@mena_makes3 жыл бұрын
Neither did I! I was really shocked when I found out haha I did see videos where people used wool shampoo, I might buy some for future blocking/ washing. Not sure about the temperature, I was worried that if too warm the vest would shrink?

i want to ask are you do the new vest with the same cast on like the first one u make (90 cast on)?
@lisalelliott32892 жыл бұрын
Wow, exactly what I've been searching for info on - colour block vest. Love your style, Mena, not just your vest, but also your videos. Just wondering what size this vest is, and how many stitches I might cast on for a size large? Thank-you!
@mena_makes2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lisa! I'm happy you like my videos (: This vest is about a women's small I'd say (I'm an aus size 8 if that helps). I reccommend knitting a gauge swatch with your chosen yarn to work out your tension and then measuring a sweater or shirt you like the fit of to calculate how many stitches to cast on. Hope this helps!

After you detached the original ribbing , did you use 4mm needles to knit the ribbing?
@M2607d Жыл бұрын
I believe its 3 mm for the ribbings and the rest is 4 mm
@molin81903 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this update, super helpful! Can I ask a question tho? If I want to keep the 4,5 mm needle (my yarn‘s made for it) how many stitches would you do less in width to make it a bit more fitted for post blocking? I usually wear size S in shirts/pullovers/everything top wear. The 45cm you put in the tutorial would be fine for me for a normal fitted look (a bit less loose than it is on your body, I‘d guess) but I suppose post blocking it‘d be a bit too loose for my liking. Idk, can you recommend anything?
@mena_makes3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It's hard for me to say, I really recommend you knit a gauge swatch, then block the gauge swatch and then measure it and go from there. That would be the safest and most accurate way. Good luck! 🙂

Hi Mena! do you recommend hand washing or a using the gentle cycle wash for the garment after blocking and wearing?
@mena_makes2 жыл бұрын
hello! I always handwash my knits but if it's not wool I think the gentle cycle is okay.

Hi Mena I love this vest/series. I want to make this larger as I am male and want a slightly oversized fit. Do you know what calculations I can do to adapt this vest to a larger size? Thanks
@mena_makes2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mitchell! Happy to hear you like the series (: I recommend knitting a stockinette stitch gauge swatch in the yarn/needle size you want to use and then working out your gauge (stitches/10cm & rows/10cm). Find a shirt/sweater that is the fit you are after and measure it's dimensions. Then calculate how many total stitches/rows that equates to. You can follow the same steps as me but changing cast on #, decrease # over # rows based on your calculations. Hope this helps! Mena

Hello! You need circular needles for the ribbing around the armholes and neck line. The body can be made with straight needles though.

@mena_makes3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It's hard to say because I used leftover yarn for this project... okay according to my kitchen scales it weighs 115g. Each ball of this yarn (which is called de rerum natura ulysse) was 50g and 185m. So I used approx 425.5m. Hope this helps!
