This truck has a lot of wierd stigma and Hype around it. So where are we at right now, Almost 2k miles on it, a month or two in. What i like and dislike abou the new Ford F-150 Powerboost. Does it beat the other half ton trucks out there? Can it live up to diesel MPG's? Or is this just another miss by Ford.
I'll go over my loves and likes of the new F-150 so far in. Please subscribe and check out other content on my channel like some of the videos below. It helps out a small channel, so I can keep bringing you more content.

Been driving Ford Pickups since 1969. Just bought a 23 Lariat power boost 4WD and love it ! Especially the 7.2 KW in the bed! Actually have plugged in my Lincoln MP210 MIG welder and used it to make some fence repairs, have also used my grinders as well. 3.5 V-6 that when I “ stomp” it reminds me of the 429 V-8 from years ago! Never big a big fan of 4WD but have used it twice already and I average around 21.6 MPG unheard of in a 4WD.

I absolutely love my 22 Lariat powerboost. After 2 f150s that nickel and dime me to death. I jumped to Toyota. When I started looking into the new Fords and test drove one I was blown away. The attention to detail, ride quality and pro power on board is amazing. Everything you said in your video I completely agree with. One big negative was I had to buy the rear wheel well liners to complete the look. I can’t believe Ford couldn’t have thrown those things in. Don’t forget the fancy slot for your cell phone near the cupholders. lol

Nice review. I think these modern half tons are great general use trucks. I think the tow ratings are a little misleading though. I think not so much the weight but it’s my opinion the size and type of trailer is vastly more important for determining the towing experience as just the weight alone. Enclosed type, high profile long trailers are just physically too big for half tons, even when most of the time their weights are well within their tow ratings. I can use my trailer for example. It’s an 8.5’x24’ enclosed car trailer that’s about 9’ tall. So it’s 28’ total counting the tongue and when it was bare bones, brand new it weighed nearly 4,000 pounds. That doesn’t sound like much but even now with a finished interior and my race car and other stuff at nearly double the weight it pulls the same. Now on the flip side an open trailer or flat trailer, low profile even at the rated towing capacities are fine in my opinion because you can tell a huge difference in towing those empty vs towing them with a load. Enclosed trailer not so much. Just my two cents. If I didn’t have an enclosed trailer I’d really consider going back to a 1500 to get the better ride and fuel economy.

I really like that powerboost as well. But i have a 10000lb 35ft travel trailer which i know ill be over all the time with that half ton. I never thought id hear myself say this but im hoping the government will start getting on the heavy duty market forcing Ford to mate the powerboost, hybrid, to the 7.3. Or some say the "Superboost". Id be instantly ordering that truck...

That's would be a dream for sure. Yeah I agree at 35 ft...the hd truck for handling makes sense. Some of the half tons are rated up to 13k, no way I'd ever do that. I think 8500 to 9500 would be my overall comfort level.

In the past with two plastic panels creaking and groaning together "that I have found" the issue with in the cab, I have taken a can of the silicone spray that has a straw adapter and squirted some along the joint. Just have to be careful not to get the silicone on surfaces that could be damaged and some plastic coloring can be damaged even by the so called protestants that claim they are meant to use on plastics in cabs. I suppose the greasy armor all would probably work as well but the silicone spray is what I had success with on annoying overlapped plastic components. Jerry, I wonder if you have an unused wire plug end or a plugged together harness that isn't being held down and is flopping around under the dash against a metal or plastic structure.

Good idea, ill give it a shot. You are right on how greasy armor all is. Id definitely try silicone first. Thanks and happy holidays.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on options that you have that you think aren't needed, or even options you don't have and wish your truck had for the XLT. Currently pricing and looking at dealer lots for 2023 XLT's and Lariats.
@automotiveinquiries9673

I like the xlt premium, it had everything that I would want. The sport ads all the gray and black vs chrome, which if you go lariat you have to pay for the sport appearance package to get no chrome. The sweet package on the xlt is the 302a pacakge...that gives you dual zone climate control (must have for the wife), sync 4, led side mirrors and remote start on the fob (but you'll get connected services with remote start on the phone for life). I personally don't need leather (I like it, but cloth is nice). With that's said, for me I like the large connect 4 12 inch screen that you'll get in xlt premium and above. The only thing I'd like that this truck doesn't have would be homelink and lit visors for my wife (but she only uses them once in awhile. I love the hybrid...this thing shines in the city (under 45 mph) I average 28 in the city and once got 35 mpgs. On the hwy at 75, 23 mpg. The 3.73 is a good mid range rear-end, but always try and get the locking rear. I also don't care for some of the lariat guages (all lcd screen, no analog). Lastly, I like the tailgate step, this one does not have. Going with the xlt, you'll save 7 to 10k right off the top. Also if you buy, ask about ford's low APRs. Hope thus helps

What’s the payload on your truck?
@filup7419
@filup7419 6 ай бұрын
We should probably stop calling them "half-ton" trucks when they have a payload capacity of 1 ton. As a matter of fact, the F150 was never called a "half-ton" in reality. That was all past labeling that has carried over for almost 50 years. In 1975, a change in U.S. emission laws required any vehicle under 6000 pounds GVWR to burn unleaded fuel. U.S. pickup truck manufacturers responded with a "heavy half" pickup of over 6000 pounds GVWR. The F-150 had a capacity of over 2000 pounds, compared to 1500 pounds for the F-100 at the time. If you notice, today Ford never uses the term "half-ton" in any commercials or documentation. Instead they call it the "F-Series" or more specific by model number (F150, F250, and etc.). Long story short, the government killed the actual "half-ton" pickup and the F-100 in the 70's. All of that being true, I agree with you. If you're towing anywhere close to the limits, it may be a good idea to move up in model number (F250/350) just to have the increased capability.

Trying to decide on a new full size truck with V8. Which one would you recommend I buy. I really like the way the F150 runs and drives but I am concerned able reliability. Do you recommend the F150 . I have always been a Toyota Tundra person but I don’t know about the V6 turbo reliability. I would really appreciate your recommendation, Ford F150 with V8 5.0 or Tundra with V6 turbo for reliability.

I’m on my second V8 F150 with no issues or oil consumption and I wouldn’t drive one without it in there. My first had the six speed and this one I have got a 10 speed and I like the six speed better cause it’s not so jumpy. The 10 speed will jerk at 30 MPH here and there and I guess it’s a for thing till the truck learns you or whatever. My wife just got a powerboost Lariat 502A and she likes it. I don’t like the new interior and they made the new steering wheels to the point you have to use both hands to do things. Took the climate control off the screen in the 2023 trucks for some odd reason and that big screen is a fingerprint magnet. I drive a 2020 Platinum V8 901A with the 8 inch screen and that good enough for me since I have a 8K Full JL Audio C2 music system with 2 Ten inch TW3 Subwoofers and 2 JL Audio Amplifier with a Twk88 DSP installed in mine so I don’t really care for screen sizes. I can’t comment on the reliability of the powerboost yet since she just got it 72 Hours ago, but my V8s go with no problem and the old one was faster cause it was a modded 2017 Lariat till someone crashed into it and destroyed it. My 2020 has been all over the west and central USA with no problems or leaks. Just jerky transmission here and there and still running strong with 116,000 miles on it. Can hate the V8 for working the way it should I guess.

Got a few questions. What size is the fuel tank? How long can you run on just the battery? And does the air conditioner run of the battery especially in a hot environment like Florida?
@automotiveinquiries9673
@automotiveinquiries9673 6 ай бұрын
Absolutely. So my tank is 26 gallons, for 2024 all powerboost models will get a 36 which is sweet. As for the running on just battery. In town it goes in and out as demand is needed but I average 27 mpg in town. Under 45 is where hybrids really save, so mostly in town. As for a/c and heat. It will go about ten minutes on battery, parked running heat, heated seats and radio. It's been cold up here so as for a/c I can't speak of yet. But I wpuld believe it will move the air just as good as the heat. After 10 minutes the engine will run for 3 minutes roughly and then go back to battery (parked) still running those things. And so what I seen, the batteries will go about a third of the total range in the city. So if I go 12 miles it runs on battery about 4. On the hwy it stays in gas mode mostly, but on a 100 mile trip my wife, got 25 mpg overall. Towing these numbers would dip for sure, that is to be determined when we do.

@@automotiveinquiries9673 great information. So you’re basically pushing 700 miles a tank with mixed driving with 26 gallons. That’s impressive. Do you know if the ac compressor runs off an electric motor or belt driven off the engine? Btw, thanks for the response and merry Christmas.
@automotiveinquiries9673
@automotiveinquiries9673 6 ай бұрын
@bigcbee that's about right on my mileage per tank. The compressor is ran by the belt on the engine. So I'd say the engine would run more with the ac vs. Heat, I just can't confirm that for sure yet. Merry Christmas to you also and thank you for checking out my videos and being here.

Did you see that the Powerboost has been the least reliable Ford truck the last 3 years straight since it was introduced?
@automotiveinquiries9673
@automotiveinquiries9673 6 ай бұрын
I did see that it was ranked low by JD power or maybe car and driver. Although I would be interested in the trim they had. I know a lot of people with the lariat and higher that have had issues with all the electronic stuff inside, not necessarily powertrain. Sales of the powerboost are insane and they expect it to be the highest selling engine combo of the f150 in 24. They weren't really specific as to what the issue was, but forums are more positive than negative. But ill.put it to the test and see, I'm not brand loyal so if it has issues I'll report it. I know many people that have the little dmax in the chevy that have had lots of problems, but many haven't. I personally enjoy this truck a ton.
