As a reader who lives in a small space with no room for shelves, my kindle paperwhite is a lifesaver. The front light also really helps when I want to read at night without having to turn a night light on.

I got my first e reader earlier this year (used voyage) and it was a great introduction to ereaders! I would say the amount I read basically doubled, no jokes. But the device is almost ten years old and the battery is kaput basically. 6 hours is the max I can get out of it, I’m always checking the battery level while I’m reading, super distracting. so I ordered the paper white today actually! I’m hoping to get 10 years out of it ❤ Great video

I can understand the battery struggle with the voyage! I had that same issue with it and with the oasis, which led me to get the paperwhite, and I love it! It works perfectly, and I am sure you will be able to get 10 years out of it with no problem! Thanks for stopping by!

Oh I started reading again when I tried ereaders. I like that ereaders remember at which page you are with the book and I have them in my 1 hand - usually I read 3/4 book in the same time, so I don’t have to take all of them with me. I love pw5 for finally adding the warmth settings with schedule, its game changer. Also I am a huge fan of page turning animation, nice feature. And lastly night shift mode, it’s a bless when you read without the light in the room 😄

I love my Kindle Paperwhite! I had the Fire and my eyes felt like they were being stabbed. Thankfully, I found someone who wanted it. I was skeptical of the Paperwhite at first. But it's been great. Nothing beats the convenience, especially on the go. And I love being able to read outside later in the evening! My problem had been that I seemed to retain a lot more when reading from a physical book. Nonfiction seemed worse than fiction. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why. It's the same exact words! It must be something about the physicality of a paper book - the feel of it, the fact that they all look different, the memories of having it in my bag or holding it on the train or in the park or in a coffee shop, the bookmarks I'd use - all of this seems to "cement" the information in my mind better than when I read from an object that looks/feels exactly the same for every book. It's improved a bit, but it's still somewhat of a struggle. All of that said, it's become my go-to for favorite re-reads. No problem concentrating, since I already know the story. It's great also for Bible reading on the go! However, I still don't want to be fully dependent on an ereader. If it breaks and you're broke (which I often am) you're out of books. EEK! I'm also concerned about censorship. Everything is "offensive" these days. You really don't own ebooks, so they can just go POOF! in an instant. That's why I always have a hard copy of books I want to keep/reread forever. They can come pry those out of my cold, dead hands.

I remember thinking to myself that I wouldn't much a fan of ebook since I love the feel of paper and physically turning the pages. Look at me now - having most of my book collection as ebook. It's unbelievable how I've found new love for reading ebooks. The convenience of it is just incomparable.

I got the Kindle basic model in during the Prime Day sale. I loved it, but I noticed the 167 ppi wasn't cutting it at night. I bought a used Paperwhite 2018 for a steal, soon after. My son recently gave me his 9th Gen Oasis and the battery does drain fast. I recieved the 2021 Paperwhite for my birthday a week ago. I love the battery life of it! I read about 95% percent on the Kindle now. I was reading on a tablet before. No tablet competes with Kindle's battery life. I read mostly for free using two libraries through the Libby app. We do have Kindle unlimited right now. In the past there is no way that I had time to visit the Library regularly or afford to buy as many books as I read now. I've read around 83 books since March. Not only can you get books faster on Kindle, but to me it seems reading is faster. One of my favorite things about Kindle besides the battery is the ability to read in the dark or in a power outtage.

I Agree wholeheartedly Micah, an ereader will change your reading life in so many positive ways. I have the 2018 Paperwhite (10th generation I think) and a Kobo Libra 2 for the bigger screen size, Usb C connector and extra storage space which the Signature edition has. I went Kobo primarily because of the epub file format which Kindle didnt support until most recently(their version of course), but timing is everything. I do still purchase physical books (nice editions of favourite books primarily) and Deckaled pages right? But I almost read from my ereaders exclusively now. And oh yeah something nice about being able to have most of your library or TBR in your packpack or jacket when your on the move is really appealing to me. I thought your comment that you made about forgetting about the physical book itself made me pause, but weird as it may sound, theres truth there too. I took a look at any Mammoth I have on your shelf (eg. Lord of the Rings) and it suddenly made sense. What a time to be alive.

I’ve been reading digital books on a variety of devices since 2002, years before the Kindle. I got the first Kindle in 2008 and have never looked back. My favorite was the 2nd edition Oasis, but, like you, the battery life became so poor I had to get a new device. I currently use the Paperwhite Signature. I’m very tempted to order the larger Kindle Scribe coming out next month. I’m not big on handwriting notes, so I’m holding off. There is rumor of a new Oasis which might have a larger screen than the Paperwhite. I also love having more books on one device than most people will read in a lifetime.
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins Жыл бұрын
I am very interested in the rumors of a new Oasis, Greg. I think if a larger model came out with USB-C for charging, and a larger screen than the Paperwhite, I would pick one up. I feel the same way about the Scribe, I am curious about how the reading experience would be on a larger screen, but I don't think I would ever use the writing feature. Anytime I take digital notes I just use my iPad. I love being able to have so many books on one device as well!
@troytradup

I'm a huge fan of my Kindle Oasis and have the same thought about it as you do about the new Paperwhite page size versus the original Kindle: that tiny extra bit of screen size just does it for me. I did find I had to adjust my reading a bit when I adopted an e-reader. I sometimes have to remind myself to read slower. For some reason, the digital experience makes me want to rush. Are you planning to buy a Scribe?
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins Жыл бұрын
I have found that I tend to rush at times as well Troy. I wonder why? It must be something about the digital screen that causes that. I am very interested in the Scribe, but I think I will need to wait a bit and see if the price will drop! As I am not sure I would use the writing feature, it may be a little too pricey, but nevertheless fascinating! I am hoping that a few BookTubers might pick one up and review it.

I am still using my first-generation Oasis from 2017 and it's lasted well although the battery is suffering. I love the fact that it's got a little bit larger of a screen than the Paperwhite. I've heard that a new Oasis is due out before the end of the year and may have an 8-inch screen, which would be even better. The Scribe, although it looks great, might be just a bit too large for me and I don't need the writing abilities it offers. Glad you're happy with the Paperwhite, which is also a fantastic device.

But I basically charge it every night now as I read before bed for an hour or so, so it doesn't bother me. I’m in coastal Southern California, so real estate is not cheep. Physical space for books is a true luxury. I have about 300 physical books, but they’re all boxed up or in plastic bins. The e-reader is a decent compromise. I have about 1,500 digital books and 2,000 manga comic books 📚📚📚 There’s no way I could have all that in physical form without being a full-blown hOarder 🙈💦

I can't say that I have a particular preference-- it may sound shallow but it comes down to money... the reason I use a Kindle is because I can buy books for a lower price. Of course, there's benefits from using the Kindle (especially the new one that's back-lit) and I love the fact that I have a huge quantity of titles in digital space. But if I'm reading a fantastic book, and I'm completely immersed, I suppose I'm indifferent about physical or digital. On a side note -- I like to read while I'm walking or in the pool and that's made easier by the Kindle 😀

I have to say, as a newcomer to ebooks, I'm very quickly becoming swallowed up by the ease and comfort of e-reading. And for YEARS I dug my heels into the sand, refusing to ever replace my books for something that I could read on a screen. I just received my Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and it's become like an obsession and I'm questioning my entire physical book library. I've been contemplating reducing my library for a while now, and my Kindle may have given me a big incentive to start. Hi, Steve! I’m so glad to hear you have been loving your Kindle Paperwhite! They are great devices, and total game changers! For me, it really comes down to two things, price and subject matter. If I can snag a hardcover used for a couple of dollars, I’ll go that way, but if I know that the book will be one that I’ll want to really study, make notes, highlight and the like, I’ll get the ebook because I find it much easier to make notes and highlights with my kindle than with a physical book. Also, I love the way Kindle organizes your highlights and let’s you access them with such ease. I hope that answers your question!
