Very helpful. Sometimes you have to give up some “wants” and hope that your efforts will make up for what is lacking. If you lack money for the “perfect”.

how do you security? fence around property line? how do you let wild life in and the unwelcome intruders out?

We have an animal fence for the inner 8 acres. No other fence than that. We left big wild life in like deer and moose in the winter, then close it up for spring through fall.

That Petersburg TN property is very close to my 15 acres. Would be a great place to homestead. I own a very hilly property and a fairly flat property, and my only comment is it gets old climbing up and down elevation doing chores. Building and construction is also more difficult. I much prefer my slightly slopping land. It is much more productive as well.

Good stuff as always 👍🏻 A thought I had little of subject though, for all the homesteaders. Put in the work on your property but don't forget your body as well. Coming up with a health routine is paramount when living this life style. If you don't, you won't be able to continue when you are old. Cold plunge, sauna, cardio, plyometrics, maybe a little weight lift (rocks, logs, environmental weights) should be a part of your life. Bone density, ligament strength/flexibility, balance is a necessity. Being a stooped frail elderly person is a quick way to longer being on your property and dying in a hospital instead of your bed. Just my two cents, stepping off soapbox 😅

Would living by a rail line be a deal breaker? We’ve got 20 acres very rurally in southern BC. 4-6 trains a day so not really a mainline. Lots of other positives mostly.

You had mentioned quite a few times water catching. I do not understand that. We are supposed to catch all the water that we need from the hills? It does not sound like a reliable source of water.

@crymr3
@crymr3 Жыл бұрын
@@Alien2799 snow is stored water in the higher elevations. It has to melt and flow downhill and concentrate into valleys If you create water catchment (like a pond dam in a valley that collects snow melt) you can store/catch water that would normally drain off your property.

Just put myself on the waiting list. Question: is there hardwood on your property for burning in the wood stove/cook stove? Or do you just go with softwood for that?

Is there any potential to "terracing" a mountainous property in a four season climate like where you are ? or are there "obvious drawbacks" that make that an outweigh any benefit? (Obviously cost would be a major issue, but other?

Curtis, I've been thinking about this segment alot. I love using Google earth to explore. Question: for areas that don't give a graphical 3d look at areas that do infact have elevation differences. What methods or tools do you have to remotely figure out what the geography looks like without going and looking in person. What tools would you recommend for calculating elevation drops during an in person visit to a property?
@crymr3
@crymr3 Жыл бұрын
I use contour map generators and overlay them over google earth pro. Knowing the contours, I map the ridges and valleys And then knowing that, I apply a holistic design using permaculture principles like “scale of permanence” (water catchment, access, structures, plantings, etc)

I put up with Trudeau tyranny by laughing at it all. Literally has zero effect on our well being. It's all a show just like in the US. Hard to say what it would cost now. Part of the reason I got it for so cheap is that I was able to identify winning characteristics that nobody else noticed.

I left the city in 2017 to build my... ark. With my family God guided me to a place with water sources. Isolation. An energy source (tree belt) and grass field crops to grow so that i could grow food upon them. Lambs and calves. One of the fundamental issues i have with Curtis is the failure to recognize that humans, despite the lies of Satan, are carnivores. We eat meat. Plant based diets have killed . literally killed. Tens of millions of Americans alone since Satan convinced Americans to swap bacon and eggs for cereal. The reasons for why plant diets are poison is well understood. It's not a secret. Plants are synonymous with sugar. All aspect of plant is sugar. Hello photosynthesis. Sugar causes diseases. Fatty liver, inflammation, insulin resistance aka diabetes. Obesity doesn't cause these. Obesity is just one other symptom of sugar based diets We are all supposed to somehow pretend that eating plants are healthy simply because there exists sugar that we cannot digest that we call fibre! Such as leaves, bark, etc So i look at Curtis's property and note, he has no where to grow actual human fit food with the exception of his chickens! For those still with me A herd of 6 ewes and 1 ram will produce for me and mine around 10 lambs a year after losses. (i do try and pick up twin genes) . This herd only needs 2 acres of grass crop. Lambs are harvestable at 6-11months. I prefer 9. However calves start around 3 months old needing very little grass. By one year or 350kg they need an acre each. Harvestable at 18-24 months.

I agree re meat diet. However, Curtis could hunt if he chooses to. He could probably even sit on his front porch and harvest deer or moose. I know lots of people that live on land similar. They eat wild meat. 😊
