Hi David. The 22mm pancake lens is truly brilliant. I have just uploaded a video which was shot in the evening and at night in Bewdley. It handled the dark conditions very well with great colours too, I think. It is also very discreet and virtually no one knew that I was filming and taking photos. I love it! Great video David. reliant robin 2 for me! (i don't want to ruin the photo, but have you noticed a white line going up the car, then up the wall? i now can't unsee it!! sorry!)

I believe a photo with only the subject in color looks good only if it is something artsy, as in a female model in B&W with red lipstick or color in the hair. If a bird was color of blue and the surrounding in B&W as art, then maybe. The car of blue, to my eye, just looks like a photoshopped add-in of a car at a scene. In other words, it has to more an abstract, like a painting. I do like the monochrome version. The photo of the man walking in front of the flowers is OK in that green against the pink stands out. Now if he or she is walking the other direction, and is in the blanks area, as in do fill-in the blank, it does two things. 1) he is walking into the scene, and facing towards the open area. 2) flowers are busy, and subjects get lost in front of them. There are rare moments when walking out of the scene makes a statement, like she is mad and leaving him story. There are all sorts of rules for placement, but mostly it is a matter of first finding the background without out distractions, such as people or trash cans behind, some angle the camera will understand and not distort, being sure the line has offset of subject, or room to edit that way. As for the framing using objects so close, such as news stands, unless you want just color or gray blurred frame, the photographer will have to stop-down quite a bit. The f6.3 to f8 on an APSC, does the trick for half blurry, or f16 if one wants sharper, or is standing closer. You know this, so just saying for amateurs it has its perils. Hats are so neat to photograph. It really is something one notices as they walk about. One thing I noticed when down on the docks, if you get close, or use a longer lens, right behind someone and shoot pretty wide open, what the person is looking at changes to a colorful and painting like rendition. Ah yes, and Monet painting. Kinda fun to do down at the pier. Almost 2024, and next weekend I will update to my January show. Take care, Loren Schwiderski
