Fingersmith is one of my fav books (so is The Portrait of Dorian Gray)! Hopefully it's okay I'm telling you this but besides the setting change there is another major change between The Handmaiden and the book. I'm curious what you will think given you've already seen that film! I read the book first, then later watched the miniseries, and then The Handmaiden.

Ohhh that makes me super curious, thanks for sharing!! Do you find that having read the book first made you enjoy the movie more or less? I'm always interested in this because my friend and I have vastly different perceptions of call me by your name for this very reason haha

@@tiredgirlreads on first watch definitely more! but now it has kind of evened out. I'll elaborate when you've finished it and talked about it later on. I think both adaptations, while having differing tones, are pretty on par with my enjoyment of the book. I still like the book the best out of the three because of the writing, the first person perspectives, and it was my first experience with the story- because it's one that involves twists there's less of that emotional shocked response in further variations. actually now that I'm thinking about it there may be another major difference... it's been a while since I've watched the movie and the first time I saw it I watched the director's cut, which is longer. On my latest watch it was the theatrical shorter cut, so idk if it was something entirely not in the film or just the difference in cuts. so sorry if any of this sounds confusing and ofc I'm trying to be vague, lol
