I've only been to Vegas a few times but Mirage was my favorite casino. I just liked the overall vibe. My favorite memory was finding two $100 bills crumpled up on the floor near one of the bathrooms.

A lot of people have a lot of nostalgia for the volcano show. I didn't really start going to Vegas until about 2011. For me the volcano show is a relic of another time, and it had problems over the years -- after all you are sending fire up into the air. I can see why people are sad to see it go, and that it is yet another example of how the resorts keep taking away the free "extras" that make the strip a unique experience. But in balance, I do not regret seeing the volcano show go. I do regret the front desk aquarium going, along with the Seigfried and Roy and mermaid statues. The statues are low maintenance. The aquarium does take some work to keep up, but it just exudes class and makes you feel like the Mirage is special as soon as you check in.

Agreed... it would be one thing if they just didn't want to keep spending money on the Volcano. But they are wholesale erasing everything and anything related to the Mirage.

The Mirage was probably the most influential property of last 40 years and was the start of what we know now as modern Vegas

We stayed with our daughter and mom last year, we knew it was being converted and wanted her to see it with the Volcano show. It is unfortunate that they are building another Guitar hotel, we already have one in Florida. If we knew that Love was going away then, we would have taken her. Hard Rock is the major two Casinos in Florida, and I cannot stand it. Truly disappointing.

I'm just confused. The mirage was old, but just needed an update. There was already a Hard Rock Hotel and casino in Vegas and IT FAILED!!! What makes them think that a redo will be any different? It'll probably just destroy the Mirage , just like they did once already. The Mirage was the start if the destination resort mega hotels. With something for the whole family to do and see and not just a gambling place with a kitschy stage show thrown in like other hotels had. People who had never gambled came to see the Sigfried & Roy show as well as the dolphins and the volcano. That WON'T be the case for this redo hotel.

This is a new/different company who owns the Hard Rock casino brand. (Based in FL) They had no interest in operating a legacy property. They wanted to purchase a property on the strip and turn it into their brand. Honestly, it's MGM's fault for selling to them, knowing what they wanted to do. Greed all around.
