I remember when I had my oldest son just 8 days before my 19th birthday!! I had to go to the county building to apply for assistance. I told them, and myself that I will not be another statistic by being a young black single mom on welfare! And by 3mos old we were off! I worked 2 jobs, and went to school. I worked at the chow hall on the marine corp base, and the bank. When my son was just 5 I met my now husband. We now have 2 more kids together. We’ve been married for almost 10 years! We own our very first 7 bdrm, 4 bath, 3 floor home, and 2 cars. God is real! He never left me nor forsaken me! He’s still here. Trust me it sounds amazing, but the process/road to get here wasn’t always easy!

Alot of ppl bash Section 8 and Federal housing programs but if used as intended it works, I transferred my 3bdrm Section 8 voucher from Illinois to AZ and it ended up being worth more do to increased housing costs, I was able to build my credit bcuz I also worked fulltime, went to school and was able to leave the program after 7yrs; I applied for a FHA loan and was able to get a 3bdrm 2.5 bath foreclosed home when the industry collapsed in 2008...this program helped me accomplish my dream of homeownership and now my home is worth over $400,000 but I got it foreclosed for $140K

My mother rented her house to a family on section 8. Let's just say it didn't end well....but it didn't deter her. The 2nd family was wonderful. So much so the tenant actually was able to save and when my mother put the house on the market she was able to buy it. It was a very good transition. Not everyone has the mentality to do better once they get better. Some will bring old and bad habits with them. I'm glad my mom stuck with the process because it ended up being a win win.

When she talked about the paperwork and they want everything, she’s not kidding. And you have to go through recertification and handing over all that paperwork every year. 6 months bank statements, sign an EIV, provide W2s or letter - not the yearly mailed statement - from Social Security if that’s your income p, every medical bill, every prescription, everything for the year. Then fill out 20+ pages of recertification forms. It gets hard when you’re disabled or old. And yes, you will sit on a waitlist for years before you get called because you’ve finally come up on the list. 3 years is actually really good. Seniors get taken advantage of because they know there’s nowhere else to go. A lot of these low income senior buildings get away with making you sign the lease and pay up front first month and security before you get to see the apartment. Which means you can be walking into a situation. Yes the rent is less, but tenants pay in other ways and overbearing bureaucracy

@@francesjolly5106 no one thinks there should be no oversight, but going through it before you can move in and then every year like you’re some kind of criminal or grifter is overboard. The bureaucracy is overwhelming and humiliating

@@mschief-central4940 Chile please, you're receiving a HAND OUT. That is exactly what Section 8 is. If you think it's "too much" to go through the verifications, the probing, the waiting, in order to get free/subsidized housing that everyone else works hard and pay thousands of dollars for, then step your game up and LEVEL-UP so as to not need the government's help. Market rate rents, as you know, have gotten to the point of insanity. I have been looking at private rentals so I know what the rates are in our area. No one gets anything for free, take that out of your mind right now. I have no children or other dependents. No one is asking for free. We ask to be treated with dignity and respect. I’ve even talked to someone who works with hud and agrees that the entire yearly recertification process is over the top and very intrusive.

There are two types of Section 8. The first type is the Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) where recipients get a voucher that they can use for any house or apartment that accepts them that's within their rent limit. You can take the HCV with you wherever you move (that's called "porting"). The second type is what's called Property-Based where the Section 8 is tied to the apartment complex and not to an individual person. This young lady is in a property-based Section 8 community.

This lady is doing her best. She’s a nurse and deserves a helping hand. I’m still trying to think of a housing system here in the uk as comparable. I don’t think we do have anything. Most families that need or deserve a help up don’t get housing like this. Local council housing, which is the cheapest option have waiting lists 5 plus years long and it’s difficult to meet the criteria to get onto the waiting list. My sons family went through housing hell for several years before they finally found somewhere that was comfortable and that they could afford to rent. It’s still over £1200 a month. Private rental here is just as expensive as the USA and you’re lucky if you can find anything that isn’t full of mould, damp and rot and falling apart for less than £1000 a month.

I admire her ambition. She is wonderful! What I have noticed in these Section 8 places is that why does the government construct these home with such a cold aesthetic. Painted white brick and cold tiled floors in the interior. You have also visited some that have strong sturdy gated front doors and windows. I pray that she makes it out of there.

I have section 8 tenants. While I've had a couple tenant issues over the years, most are really good people. Or maybe my county just has a really good person in charge of the program.

The inside looks like NYC projects its not updated or nice at all. I lived in NYC on section 8 in nycha i was going to move to AZ but changed my mind and moved to Nevada instead and my section 8 apartment has updated everything , stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, there's a pool and fitness center, all my kids have their own bedrooms and bathrooms modern everything in here and i only pay $250 a month in rent🥰... My apartment community is gated as well. I'm the only section 8 tenant everyone else is paying full rent. They are not accepting any more section 8 ppl because they changed owners . I'm never moving out of here this is a dream compared to living in nycha projects ten years

This is what is needed all across America for people of low income or Social Security or disability I lived in a place with my mom taking care of her just like this one and it was really nice except for being far away from places she had to have a car definitely a food desert where I was living but it had air conditioning heat laundry room and she bedrooms one bathroom and it was cheap

I am currently trying to move to Arizona and Kingman I’m gonna see if you have any places in Kingman if you don’t will you please check out Kingman Arizona? I am OK no income I don’t work any longer and I have one small pets I’m 62 as of yesterday! I lived in Scottsdale Arizona when I was 23 I couldn’t stand the heat however, my son and my daughter-in-law are building a house in Kingman and I want to be close to them and my two grandkids so I’ve been saving up money for the U-Haul and you know how that goes!. Thank you so much for these videos I’m checking every little thing out because I’m very picky and very very clean and I want to make sure that I live in a good non-drug area. First of all, anyone who needs section eight should stay as long as they need without pressure or shame. Back in the day I knew people renting beautiful homes on section eight, better than what most working families could afford. But now that’s changed in our area. So of course you don’t want to stay in an unhealthy environment like the projects. But I like her plan😁

A portion of #8 renter's has made it really bad for others with a voucher to rent because of the bad reputation of not paying rent destroying property keeping a foul household to moving in other families into their unit's. However their are some really great Tennants our here that needs a chance to rent. And a lot of #8 do have goals of home ownership.

There’s probably a reason everyone stays in and to themselves. You saw how fast that one tenant came to her door when she heard Big Super and the young lady outside by her laundry room. This woman has only been living there a few days. Super should go back in a couple of months to see if she still feels the same way. It looked like a ghost town to me. Where’s the kids at? Gotta go outside the complex and stand in the middle of the street just to smoke a cigarette! I can understand not being able to smoke indoors and only in designated areas outdoors ON THE PREMISES but NOT off the premises.

I would rent to this lady She is kind respectful and responsible. She understands why section 8 has a bad stigma. My favorite thing is that she has a set goal to get off assistance. She isnt loiking for a free ride like many are. Also, she is teaching her daughter how to be responsible for yourself. Great life lesson for kids

Yes there's public housing aka projects Section 8 then there's regular housing Section 8 thru HPD. The homebuyer's program requires having a savings account with hpd, attend certain programs and so on. It's a great thing and not all tenants are the same for sure!!

Houses in the hood are 500k+ here and I'm not leaving my home state, I have roots here going back to when my people migrated out of the Oklahoma dust bowl. Cannot will not kick me out of my homeland. But it would take me more than a life time just to come up on the down-payment for a house. My solution to staying, keeping my housing choice voucher and having a good track record with landlords, staying out of debt, and staying educated on the program. I live in a house already not even an apartment. Got another house on the same lot but my neighbors are decent. Hoping to move on to a better neighborhood when I get my credit up to 750 like the landlords want 🙄 wish I was kidding. But I have the stability to build it at least.
