So , if she split everything with her friend and still spent 3K, that means 6K / mo for a couple. 72K *after taxes* with zero money put away for savings or vacations etc. The median household income in Toronto after taxes is $65,500 that's for the entire household ! All this increase in costs has happened since 2016. During that time, food packages shrunk, housing skyrocketed and wages stagnated.

Trying to budget myself. I was putting alcohol into a food category. But now I put it into an entertainment category.

2800 a month on rent for a 1 bedroom. Ouch!!! I pay 1100 for a 1 bedroom (1 indoor parking space + 1 in unit storage room) 8 blocks away from the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. Although your place looks bigger.
