It's crazy how when you start actually budgeting and following a budget you start to notice how much EVERYTHING costs. The creamer, the cup of coffee etc. And how much you're actually just paying for convenience.

Interesting comment. It really shows how we assume that if a person values their appearance, somehow there's no depth to them. I've been guilty of this too. But a few years ago, I realized that it's more of a personal problem than the problem or "issue" we project on others whose values may differ from our own. Love your comment!! 😊

Don’t feel like you have to justify your spending to the public. You’re making changes and doing your best, it’s YOUR money. Thank you for sharing, it’s really helpful. Also one thing that helps me when I want to make changes but I’m resistant is I call it an experiment that way it doesn’t feel permanent and I feel less resistant to trying. Eg, this week I’m going to experiment with a different grocery store and see the prices and try the products. If I don’t like it, I’ll go back to whole foods.

Just pausing a moment to say I 100 percent agree with you about the food prep. I had a weight watchers leader like 20 years ago say that if you’re going to buy a bag of apples and watch it rot on the counter, then buy the apple slices that you’ll actually eat. That always stuck with me for some reason! Sometimes it’s worth it to make our lives a little easier!

It is, but the fact that she is stressing out over $3.48 coffee, or a $10 item at the grocery store is indicative of missing the big picture items. She mentioned starting to following Ramit in a different video, and he would point out that he doesn't care for tracking every little expense, or fancy budgeting apps, but instead to focus on the big-picture questions. She talks about "trying" to do better with various things, but repeatedly justifies why she continues to make certain choices. Zooming out and coming up with systems that work would help a lot. She has a *really* complicated financial system that probably isn't helping her.

It has been a gamechanger for me now, I save so much money planning my food and what else will go out and I go shop everything on Sundays. My groseriesbudget is 50€/week now for me and my 2 kids, 2 cats and a dog. A tip for the shirts, after you washed them at home, hang them up in the shower and shower them all wet and let them hang there to dry ~ they will be wrinklefree 🙌 And the food that are in other stoors than wholefoods are same food, just alot cheaper 🙏🤗

Loved this style of video! I like your approach of not going scorched earth and cutting anything and everything out of your life to get out of debt and rebuild savings. However, just some unsolicited advice, I feel like you can easily make small changes like not shopping at wholefoods to get your everyday groceries that will not affect your quality of life at all and will absolutely save you money. Using wholefoods as a specialty store to get a couple things you can't get at a regular grocery store makes sense to me. But walmart, kroger, meijer, aldi, whatever you have nearby will have everything you need at a much cheaper cost. I go to aldi for the bulk of my groceries and spend well under $100 a week for 2 people. Just some food for thought! Disregard if you don't care and are happy with your grocery bill as is :)

I am in a different place now and I could elaborate but I want to address something specific that I haven't seen other comments on in this video. In regards to your body dismorphia- the fake tan. It isn't a particularly popular look these days and it's costing not only money but time to keep it up. Go pale- it is naturally how you look and you will look younger if that is your objective. Winter is coming anyway, why try to look unseasonably tan? I say this with the best of intentions from a pale 39yo perspective.

I am the same with cooking alot of the time. I have a fantasy self who loves to cook and once in a great while there is something specific I do want to make. But a 20 minute prep takes me 3-5 business days and I often wind up buying stuff I don't use or stuff that goes bad. Sometimes I get the whole cauliflower and I chop it up and season it and roast it, but last week I got parmesan peppercorn frozen cauliflower and just roasted that and I heated up pasta meat (ground beef that I seasoned, cooked, and froze in 8 oz servings) and it made a great meal. I also don't have a dishwasher, so that's another obstacle. Just gotta do what works and get what you will actually use and eat! Also, don't worry about the coffees! They are small beans. Enjoy them and focus on the big wins!

I feel you when you say you are averse to food prep. I was required by my mother growing up, to make the salad for everyone. That involved ripping the lettuce, chopping the onions, cabbage, carrots, celery-for 10 people. When I was married, 14 years, I never made another salad. At the divorce, I tried the “salad bar” at the store- way, way too expensive! By the pound! Then the kids and I went to Ruby Tuesdays, Outback, California Pizza Kitchen and all of the other restaurants with good salads. That only lead to maxed out credit cards. It’s a well known fact that too much reliance on restaurants supplying your food is not financially wise. I began chopping OUR OWN salads. My daughter even bought me a Santoku knife 🔪 for Christmas one year. 😊

Whole Foods is way more expensive than any other normal grocery store. I think they can be affordable if you shop sales and have Prime though. I’ve noticed they seem to have an overall mark up on brands you can even purchase elsewhere like the Pretzel Crisps at Target were $2-3 cheaper. I think that you could cut 1/3 off if you wanted to shop at another store even buying the convenience items you mentioned.

keep doing what you are doing. Though I am not at where you financially - through and through stingy, but I love your videos, as I do still fall into some the traps you fall into. And having you talking about it, makes me thought "oh yeah, I occasionally do that too. better stop."

I love the balance between enjoying nice things, but staying on a budget. I’m subscribing today, I really enjoyed the VLOG. I was in marketing too, I miss those days of Google ad words!

@@cali_love5977 Yes that’s how I like to live. I love to save and buy all thrifted clothing. Then I always ask for small jewelry gifts from my husband for Christmas and my birthday😆 Sure does elevate a thrifted dress😉

I buy pre-chopped stuff too! Too much work. Get the little containers or mashed avocado and mix it with salsa. Nice alt to guac and cheaper.

When I'm sick and I can't do a workout, I do yoga to keep my body moving in a gentle way and not get out of my routine :)

I’ve been wanting to move to Cape Cod! Wish I could find an affordable place there. Everything’s so darn expensive!
