Brother I really can’t thank you enough for making these videos. Especially this new one. I’m 4 months out from a TLIF fusion on L5-S1 after a failed microdiscectomy. Still have pain in my back, hip, my leg and foot are pins and needles, numbness, pain, feels like I’m plugged in to an electric socket at all times. Doctors just took me off pain meds. Can no longer do my job. It’s not a good life. It means a lot too hear from you. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this as well and I do hope you find some relief soon but I truly thank you for this video.

What a lot of doctors don’t tell the patient is that TLIF fusion is not a surgery to fix back pain it’s a surgery to cut a herniated disc and Descompress nerves. Alift fusion is the one for back pain because they are able to place in a bigger gate more support and this will descompress the nerves as well.

I had an L4-L5, L5-S1 fusion 12 months ago at the age of 60. I'm very happy with my result. I had tremendous pain during the 6 months prior to surgery. The pain was down my legs and my feet would go numb after walking for only 5 minutes. Just simple walking was hugely painful every day. I had two degenerated discs and severe spinal stenosis in two areas. I put off surgery for about 7 years, but it finally just got unmanageable and I pulled the trigger. It was a good decision. Yes, I did everything that I was told in recovery. No BLT for the first 3 months and then really eased into light weight-training. I walked miles and miles and miles after surgery, seldom missing a day. Walking is the best physical therapy you can do those first 3-6 months. I started watching your videos when I was in recovery. I also watched those of others that had underwent fusion surgery. It really helped hearing from others that had shared the same experience. Anyway, I wish you all the best and keep the faith.

IMO when your back levels wear out such as in the L4-S1 region, fusion is a viable alternative. You have to stabilize (eliminate mobility) in that area which is causing the pain. Your doc did a great job setting your spine correctly before fusing. Many don’t have your result. I did core work post surgery to support the loss of mobility and provide support for surrounding lumbar. It still works for me. Walking is good. Your doc is very good. What’s his name/hospital? 👍

I refused because I want to avoid it. I manage my pain with Kratom. It's been about 5 years now. Its nice to hear someone going through a similar thing I am. I'm going through many of the same issues you are with the leg numbness tingling. One of the hardest parts is being a healthy looking person, a strong looking tall man but I can't pick up my little girls or help friends move or other duties that's expected of me. @@billyBob-yi4km honestly brom the surgery and recovery fucken sucks. It hurts and you want to die instead of go through the pain. But it gets better week by week. Advice is get the surgery. Do your research on a surgeon. Make sure he is specifically spine surgeon not jack of all trades. After surgery walk as much as you can every single day then set mile stones. Walking is your best friend. I had pins and needles in my toes and calf muscle and thigh I used a shakti matt and a tens machine and that worked. I thought I'd fucked my back 4 weeks in but i just gained movement and my back wasn't used to it so it really hurt. But I was persistent. If I was really sore I would stay in bed and watch TV for 2 days. Then go walking again. I seen my kids and my wife struggle while I recovered so I had to get better. I had really bad days but now I have great days so theres always light at the end of the tunnel. Watch these videos too they make you understand what your going through isn't a one off. Everyone has that's had it has been there. And last info would be not to join Facebook groups of advice. Because on those pages are mostly people with bad experiences and people who have had good experiences generally don't post it on the groups.

You're literally telling my story dude...like EVERYTHING you're going through, same here. From the L5/S1 bone on bone (I had a micro-discectomy 10 years ago) to using Kratom and opiates...throw in C/6-C/7 (neck/cervical) disk replacement cuz my arm and fingers went numb after a work incident. Fast forward to now, my legs are atrophy, and the disks above my L5/S1 are herniated. Shit went out at the gym (I'm an avid weight lifter and former athlete) and the gym has always been an outlet for me... MRI coming in February but I got one about a year ago and they keep pushing for Fusion to "cage" that part together. I keep saying no...trying other things. The mental is just as important as the physical for me like small shit triggers me to fight or flight. I used to fight and scrap in bars and anyone that pissed me off. Not healthy and just dumbassry to further hurt myself and others smh. Quit drinking, Found group therapy with others in chronic pain. NOW my shooting pain is back in the sides of my back like the muscles are just throbbing. HEAVY, DULL pain in the AM. Flare ups at 11:00AM and 3pm are like clockwork. I think they're on overdrive to help keep me upright. My core strength to-brain receptors I was told are near non-existent. My dopamine is all but gone. Serotonin etc...I had reached a point with it all like "what's the fucking point of life" and wanted to just give up and die but then I see those loved ones who count on me and I just refuse to quit. Thank you for making this video though, helps me push on...Got mad love and respect for people telling their stories...we can help each other and just relating re-affirms we are not alone. *For those that might want to try: Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber, stem cell injections do help and work, especially for mental but it's expensive as hell and insurance won't cover it. Acupuncture as well (insurance MIGHT cover it as "dry-needling" in PT) Cold Plunge is brutal but it's so great to help you deal with stress and other parts of my body don't hurt. It's helped elevate my pain threshold...just my 2 cents. Godspeed to all, you're not alone. DON'T EVER GIVE UP.

Also Cognitive Behavioral therapy and a group I found in my area on "living with Chronic pain" has really helped me. I met some amazing people going through the day to day living with pain. There's even online support groups you can find on this too... Everyone's journey living with chronic pain is different. I had a L5, L4, S1 spinal fusion with decompression 17 months ago. I had bone chipping off in my spine. I had to have it after years of suffering and a few steroid shots of which i didnt want to keep masking the pain. I got to where i couldnt walk far, couldn’t bend down or cough without the disks slipping out and id be down for a week. The pain was more intense that ive ever had and ive had a baby and a hysterectomy so I am no pansy either lol. But I knew God had plans for me and He was not done with me yet. So i started researching for the best orthopedic surgeon i could find even if i had to travel. I found one 3 hrs away and had my surgery. Though it was a rough recovery with a blood clot afterwards, i started PT and stuck with it and I can tell you, I am so glad I had my surgery! It has helped me so much. I can do most things i use to. Ive started playing drums again. I dont play guitar much anymore but I can go fishing, for long walks and yoga again. I wish I could run again but i know it will put stress on the rest of my disks. I think that and weight lifting is what degenerated my disks. So its not worth running again. I do lift light weights now. Starting to do more strength training each day. I wish you all the best and I hope there will be something to help your leg! Thank you for sharing your journey.

A big piece of surviving and thriving through these challenges comes from mental strength that comes from a place few people have tapped into. Like you, I have also faced a similar story. I've always been an alpha male; always feeling the need to flex and be the strongest, fastest and toughest before surgery, and after surgery I felt like I could hold onto that. Man I was wrong... It wasn't until I let go and came to terms with my new capabilities that I truly started to heal. We will never be as strong as we used to be with a fusion. Relax and respect yourself for who you are today. Strength no longer comes from benching in the 400s. It comes from living another decade upright. God Bless and best wishes to you.

Keep yourself on a schedule it helps to break up the pain cycle and get some sort of enjoyment out of your downtime trying a new hobby or take an online class to better your life situation. I know advice is always cheap but sometimes it actually helps conversing with people going through similar problems. I was feeling pretty bad about my situation talking with my kids and saying how I have lost my Electrical License because I am not able to sit through the electrical code update class required for electricians every two years to keep your license current. So glad I found your channel. I just had my neck fused almost 5 months ago, I still having a lot of discomfort that I'm praying will get better over time. I had a work accident where someone dropped a 200 lb. cast iron door dropped on my head from about 8 feet above me, luckily I was wearing my hardhat at the time. Short story short, I was young and dumb and walked it off. That was in 1998. It took into 2011 for it's ugly head to rear up, I was involved in a minor fender bender and the way I turned my head immediately lit me up. I developed a 24hr a day headache that lasted for a year and a half. Finally got an x-ray and apparently I had broken my neck without knowing it. I waited until I was 60 to have the surgery because I couldn't get any Dr. to give me an honest opinion to have surgery or not, I think they were afraid to answer or wanted me to wait until I was older. My last surgeon asked me what I was waiting for and promised that I would very happy with the results. Still waiting for that day. I also destroyed my tailbone in high school football, which still kills me to this day, I started body building at 16 because I guess I had little man syndrome. I continued body building for most of my life because it helped with my pain when I was in shape. I gave it up in when I turned 49 because my back was failing me. I was 5' 9" and 210 and 21' biceps, all naturally, but I would go to the gym everyday, probably not the smartest thing to do, it was my addiction. I maintained my body weight and physique because of work. I finally had to make a work change because of pain, then I took care of both of my parents consecutively over a period of 3 years, I lost tons of weight and muscle mass from not working and the pain is off the charts. I've been on and off oxycodone since my early 20's, and it didn't become a problem until I had to start taking them daily in my late 40's. When I run out before my script is renewed which is always, the withdraw is horrendous. That's where kratom gets me through with the withdraw and pain. I've been considering getting injections in my tailbone but I have difficulty walking. They didn't help my neck, I had c5 through c7 fused and before my surgery, injections would only aggravate my pain. I keep asking my dr. to prescribe TRT, but she wont do it. I have lost 50 lbs. and I feel if I could put a little more muscle mass back on I'd feel better physically. I can't stand or sit very long and it's a very bad 30 years of the it's getting serious time, meaning my surgeon said "well L5 S1"No new herniation" But because your new pain...(old pain really) we can do a spinal fusion, I sunk inside, it's definitely not an ok let's do it thing!!! Thank you so much for your videos. I am nearly 6 months out from my fusion of L3 and L4. I've been out of work for 10 months and wonder if I'll be able to go back to drivinging 11 hours a day? Many people just don't get it and how difficult it is to go through a spinal fusion. I know that each person's recovery is different. I feel like I have failed for not being back to work. Several people at work have told me they went back to work soon after their surgery? I still cannot walk very far without my back getting stiff and my legs begin to feel like they're filled with lead. It's much better than it was and I am so blessed I have a wife that has put up with my tantrums and crying. God bless you sir, your kids and new found family!

Here is a tip for changing sleep with discs an fusion. The age old electric blanket? Put it on the Base of your bed. In this way, the heat comes through your mattress but, the cold air is sucked up through the Base an heat releases evenly through the mattress. I’ve been doin this crap from 91 an as I write, it’s 2023 November. I swear by this method to help sleep soundly through a night. Please stop using electric blankets on the top of you! That’s ok for the sofa an chairs etc. So please if you are using electric blankets on top of you, get someone to lift the mattress up and or off and spread the blanket over the base evenly. Make sure you get the plug and lead close to the socket on the wall, you’ll be amazed how manny of us get it wrong. Yup! I did it the first time too. Good luck everyone and hope this gives you a good nights sleep. 💊💊💊🍇🍇🍇💩💩💩💤💤💤💯💯💯🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I tell everyone, you don't know pain until you have had back pain. I'm 61 and I'm 7 day from a fusion on L4. This was my 6 spine surgery, 3 being fusions, L4,L3,C5.. I have found a great spine surgeon that uses the newest technology. My last surgery was done as an out patient where I walked in the hospital in the morning and walked out that same day after a fusion on L4. I'm sore but walking 2 miles a day and driving a car already. I would encourage anyone thinking about spine surgery that you look up minimally invasive surgery. I don't use any pain meds, not a fan of them. They don't fix anything but only mask the pain. Good luck everyone..

He was not about making close to $ 800,000 ending my life as I know ever with chronic pain that at least I don’t need to have emergency back surgeries for lose screws and other complications…. I am looking at spinal fusion in the same L5,S1. I haven’t been able to walk for three years. I spoke with an orthopedic surgeon the other day and have a tentative date in January. I think you are having these issues with your pain meds because now your intire life is spent chasing your pain. I know this is a big issue for me. I have been bedridden for about a year now. I was in a MVA in 2017 and suffered damage to my spinal cord all up and down my back. Basically nothing was done for me. My cervical spine is injured to the point that I pass out and suffer TIAs (mini strokes) to the point that the EMTs wouldn’t even take me to the hospital anymore. By the time I would get examined I would have recovered. These TIAs still had a residual effect. I too have head injuries and combine that with the mini strokes, the brain fog is scary. There is a psychologist, Rachel who studies the effects of chronic pain. I have found the videos with her very helpful. If I tune my brain and redirect it, I can stave off the pain for a time. You are also going through some very bad things on the homefront. I don’t know how dated this is. Shouldn’t be too much of a lag. I know how you feel. Just when we need them most, the people we have entrusted our lives to disappear. Pretty much sucks. I hope I can follow your progress. Take care of yourself.

Thank you for your story. I am so sorry, sounds like there was narcissism involved. I would highly encourage you to go to Plasticity Center for your TBI. I have 2 of my 6 children who had multiple major concussions. Providentially, I was connected with them. It is a weeklong intensive therapy. Day 1 is mostly testing and just a little therapy. Day 2 my older son woke up a different person. Day 2 intensive therapy. At the end of the therapy, my son and daughter came back to the hotel, closed the shades and went directly to bed. Day 3 re-eval and therapy. Day 4 intensive. Day 4 re-eval and therapy. Then sent home with therapy. It was night and day. July 15, 2024, I was stopped in construction traffic on the highway and a semi never slowed down and hit me so hard, he passed me. The paramedic thought I had hit the semi at first. I have a concussion, whiplash, and just found out through an MRI, I have herniated discs. I am going to do everything I can prior to surgery. I am definitely going to be going to brain therapy most likely early next year. I need to be working on the discs right now. Blessings

I suffered since the military in 2010 with my neck injury. April 22 2024, the bulging disk fully herniated and crushed my spine. I did every possible thing I could and very lifestyle change I could, but it still herniated in April - including being forced into an epidural steroid injection that ended up coding me (typical VA care). I had an emergency ACDF C5-C7 fusion with plating on May 20 2024. I have had numerous, severe autonomic nervous system symptoms since the epidural that have gotten increasingly worse. The surgery so far after a few weeks now seems good, massive pain relief in the neck and back, left arm and leg. I'm hoping for more relief as time goes on. I did this almost entirely without pain meds. BE WARY of their medications like gabapentin. That mixed with muscle relaxers and pain meds caused me to spend 5 more days in the hospital with extreme seizing symptoms, tremors, left arm and leg were going dead, terrible pulsating numbness/tingling pain throughout my body. Most of that went away the moment I took myself off those meds, which my neurologist wanted to double.

Was treated like crap in the hospital was told I was being dramatic when I said I can’t breathe something is wrong. I was ventilated for 15 hours after and the blood pooled in my left leg blood clot and my testicles swelled cause two fragments to come off. Left testie still hurts might lose it but my back feels pretty good. Unfortunately my incision broke open from the blood not absorbing which was a lot to expect in the first place. So two days ago they had to cut me again and clean it out. It’s so tight it hurts so bad man! I also had a 1.3cm protrusion with bone and disk fragments. God speed man! Keep pushing I know I’m trying and it’s hard. Hopefully I can save my career but I don’t know.

I had spinal fusion on L4-L5-S1 about 18 months ago. I totally resonate with your statement about getting cut open being the absolute last resort. The results of surgery are not entirely predictable and the risk of nerve damage is very high. I had also done a lot of research and read many dread induing testimonies. Fusion was recommended for me a full 4 years before I finally agreed to do it (My former Doctor chastized me for waiting so long). I was at the point where I could no longer walk or even stand for more than a minute or two. I guess I would say that I got very fortunate with my surgery, even though it was the single most painful experience of my life. My recovery was fairly linear. I was walking shortly after surgery and with time I have regained much of my former quality of life. I went to the Haider spine center in Riverside county, CA. I would recommend them for their expertise, though I really have no-one else with whom to compare. For anyone in the same situation of needing fusion, all I can do is wish you the very best. Good outcomes do happen. I was lucky.

I've been so discouraged lately with my recovery of my l5-s1 fusion. it's been 4 months post surgery and I feel I should be alot stronger by now. My back muscles just seem to not want to cooperate with some of my physio exercises. I'm having spasms and just overall more muscle pain that doesn't seem to recover quickly enough. before my surgery though I was laid up for 2 years. All I would do is lay down on the couch and get up once and awhile and walk for 2 minutes. so I know my back muscles have probably been deconditioned for so long and also very weak going into surgery. When I see how much you've been able to do 3 and 4 months post surgery it makes me think I should be there to. I just feel I'm doing everything wrong with physio cause I'm not gaining the strength fast enough with hiccups all the time

I'm an L1/L5 paraplegic who has had a spinal fusion. I had to have it. There was no choice. You have given great advice in my opinion. There are definitely negatives to getting a spinal fusion. One of them that I have found is that calcium deposits form around the fusion and injured areas creating arthritis. I have pain from arhtritis forming around the fusion that inevitably creates pain after some years. I agree that one should try everything to alleviate the pain before getting a spinal fusion. It still might be a better option only if the pain is too great to live with.

Bro I wished I never had none of mine at all 9 surgery's in .......cause what happens it is a domino effect 3 fusion in since 1999 injections and pain pills of every kind......until I found kratom I had rods and screws removed a couple of years ago and it helped me even more cause I could feel constant pressure as if I was being compressed and pain in my buttocks and left leg

How long have you been on kratom? Do you still benefit from it’s affects?

TY For the update. Now I have add another person I pray for at night. The list is getting long (dont mind me , Im a karma person) Could you tell us a little more about you scar tissue build up and where it is ? Is it to do with the nerve damage or the manipulation of nerves during the surgery ? I am 60 yrs old. I'm working on getting an ALIF now and going through a second series of scans prior. I had 5mm Spondy L for 30 yrs L5--S1 played 10 yrs soccer through it, SCUBA diving and heavy lifting, hiking and biking. My recent xrays show it hasn't slipped much since but the disk has worn away and almost bone on bone. I can walk a few miles a day in segments, but sitting and sleeping is hard. I don't have much leg pain but occasional pain in the feet. So I assume the nerve isn't all that damaged. I still do PT and core work and it has helped some as prior , I could only walk 1/4 mile. My foramen nerve on the right side is really compressed and feel if I let it go will get worse. I want to be active again and get back to work. I am filing for disability. The back feels good at times and I tell my self I don't need surgery; then I just twist or move the wrong way and the pain comes right back. Being a hard working and thoughtful person needing to feed and roof a family, needing to move made your case tough.. I am now probably where you were when you crushed your disk; but your disk probably also protruded and caused major stenosis in the spinal column also. Mine has pretty much disappeared someplace. Sometimes the vertebra will naturally fuse and cause less pain; but you wont get that staying active like you were and the vertebra are constantly shifting and grinding with micro movements. I think I got a good serious surgeon from Yale ( Dr Peter Whang who does have youtubes and has been on the news) who I'll meet again with in 2 weeks to follow up with and go over my CAT Scan and then have an MRI in December. I am hoping since I didn't let this go too long, I don't have major leg pain or numbness, that the surgery will go OK with a spacer and posterior rods at one level. I have been told the disks above look OK. I still need to question him on facet joint pain and if we need to rule that out. I'm hoping you get by well and will follow you vids as I have always done. You are a hard worker like my father was to support his family and stay active. I have a lot of respect for you and will keep you in my thoughts. PS I also have been the same way you have with women. I have been overly kind and respectful to them and it seems the take that as a weakness in my part and you get. And then you get taken advantage of and walked over. I just want to have a peaceful life wo arguments. I like listening to sadhguru's to get me through the tough times. You take care and stay strong.

12:00 I learned that as well after taking hydrocodone for a few years. It changed my natural reward system in my brain. I was an athlete, avid guitar player etc none of that was fun anymore unless I took a pill. It sort of like people who say that they can't have fun without a drink. That's why I've pretty much stopped both. I realized my brain was changing and not for the better. It scared the hell out of me. I'm a natural body builder (35] and need a fusion at L5-S1. My doctor was honest with me and talked me out of it. I'm fit and he said I would lose all of that. I've already had 5 hip surgeries (one replacement) and 2 groin surgeries. 2 shoulder surgeries as well. The fact that I'm still lifting is a miracle so my doctor said keep going until I can't go anymore. It's difficult. I look healthy like you but live in constant pain. I want to deadlift again but fear it will cause more harm than good. It's the strongest lift we can do so it's a shot to the ego. I still take a pain pill here and there but like you said, we begin to rely on it just to get us going. I now know I'm not the only one who realized this.

Wow. I just watched the whole video. I feel like I’m you in the past. My discs aren’t as bad. Was thinking about getting a disc replacement but now I don’t I definitely haven’t tried everything.

Glad you’ve found the video then, what avenues have you tried so far for relief? Please let me know how I can make some content that could help you where you are on your journey currently!

@@healing2gether I’ve done physical therapy and PRP injection with ozone. Both have helped. I’m not in a lot of pain unless I try and work and then I’m in pain. Driving/sitting is painful. Anything bending over related. I’m 39. Wife and 5 kids. Electrician business owner. I’m in pretty good shape. Your video really made me rethink surgery. Your K videos are a good warning. Maybe a video on Why didn’t you do a disc replacement was the vertebrae too worn out? Importance of resting or how to rest when you are a workaholic How your faith plays into this im assuming you are a Christian. How to know when it’s time for surgery? I know you touched on these topics already…..

@@GainSolarPower these are all great videos ideas, I really appreciate the time and thought youve put into them!! I’d love to make them all. Can I mention you on the videos I make? If I could go back I would have changed many parts of my daily lifestyle had I known what I was in for now. But love and learn right!

I had my spine fusion done 1 month back. There is significant relief from my pain..this is one of the most complicated surgeries and very risky too.the only bad phase was that 4 days after the surgery I was having very less strength in my left leg whic was the effected leg. I was realy worried as in this condition my job was totally out of the question. I didn't lose hope and started physiotherapy to strengthen my pelvis and inner thigh muscles. Now i have started walking slowly without a walker. Still early days hope all gets well and I can possibly restart my normal life.
