I'm still pondering on my reading goals for 2024. I decided to do only rereads in january, party because I want to reread more, but also to just have this period of reflection and some time to settle in the new year. I think I;ll be going for very similar vibes this year. Oh and the euro book game sounds really fun!

Good luck with all your goals! I'm the opposite to you. I profess to love reading but I am way more likely to watch booktube or play a board game. So I'm trying to make reading more of a habit. Hopefully we're both successful! Deborah Kay Davies is a Welsh author you might enjoy. Reasons She Goes to the Woods and Tirzah and the Prince of Crows are both v odd but good.

I really enjoyed listening to this. I participated in the Women's World Cup "challenge" on StoryGraph and Discord last year and it was so much fun and the way it was done didn't feel like "I have to" at all, so my brain felt no resistance and was bopping along. I did save the "Leave the World behind" video for later, because I haven't watched the adaptation yet. I like the Booker, but I prefer the International one, because I love reading translated fiction. Last year I found one of my new favourite authors through this prize, Vigdis Hjorth, and read three books by her.

Oh I LOVED the sound of Is Mother Dead, I've been waiting for it to appear in my library. I am leaning more towards the International Booker, I might just wait and see what's on the longlist and only read what I fancy (how novel!)

This was possibly the best reading goals video I've watched this year! I loved this! Also, I am in the exact same boat as you with Spanish, except for me its with French. I studied French in college, and my plan was to try to read a book in French this summer. We should keep each other accountable 😂 I try to write in my free time, too, and you are so right about it being hard to prioritize other goals when you have a Booktube channel!! Thanks so much for sharing this!

Oh wow, thank you! I don't mind admitting that I have still done no Spanish this year, so I'm off to a terrible start on that 😅 my partner is halfway through his second novel in French and I am livid (at myself). Definitely up for having an accountability buddy!

My goal is a semi combination of yours and Raeleen's: I want to read less by being more intentional 😂 i always default to an audiobook if i have one on the go because i can do other things at the same time (even if that's just scrolling endlessly on my phone 😶) so i want to have my default book be a physical read so that i actually prioritise what's on my owned tbr until that's much smaller! I also want to listen to more music when I'm not reading... audiobooks have kinda taken over that too! I also don't work well with numbers so more and less will have to do 😂

YES I realised I do the same with audiobooks too. I put them on in the background and often it's just what happens to be available on my library app or whatever, and I am just not giving the books the actual attention they deserve. I'm on the hunt for more podcasts to fill the void!

Hi there. I am new on your channel but will continue to watch. I really enjoyed listening to you, your thoughts and challenges. Especially the Euro challenge sounds so fun :). Looking forward to it. Have you picked the books yet or how will you pick out the books? May I recommend you some which sprung imminently in my mind when I watched the video. I loved all three of them. They are spectacular! For Germany: Jenny Erpenbeck - Visitation - The protagonist is a house. Over the 100 years we get a glimpse of what happened in Germany. I have read that book over a decade ago and especially the writing style still gives me goose bumps. For Austria: Monika Haushofer - The Wall - A woman in a cabin at the mountains discovers a wall which separates her from the other side. Because she has nothing else to do, she starts a journal. There is also a brilliant film adaptation but I don't know if there are English subtitles. For Wales - Jo Walton - My Real Children - An old woman relives her life as it was or as it could have been. What's reality and what does really matter? Happy reading and greetings from Germany

Oh hello! Thanks for saying hi 🥰 If you wanted more about the Euros challenge, I've linked a video down below where I talk about the books I'm planning on tackling for it. Unfortunately I've already sorted those countries BUT I've made a note to check out these books anyway because you can never have too many recs! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bonMpWSHm8d9m9Esi=4zExcj2gWS8B0wZT

Impatient, uncomfortable and intentional sound like good words for a successful, growth year if you ask me! 👌 if you want a semi-uncomfortable book to skim through, four thousand weeks by Oliver Burkeman really helped me frame what was worth spending my time on and confronting how i look at spending my time...i took it all quite positively because i think i was living some/most of the values he talked about (but it was really nice to think about) but my boss read it and is ready to tear shit down in her life in order to prioritise her life better 😂
