The only time I’ve ever used the card is when I rented a Model 3 on Turo - and the phone app works immediately almost all the time. I don't know what she's talking about when she starts recommending a key fob. When your phone works as the key, you don't even need to think about having a key or key fob to get in your car. You just walk up to it and open the door. I own two Teslas (a Model 3 and a Model Y), and the convenience of not thinking about a fob or key is just a breath of fresh air When it comes to valet. This woman is completely cutting the car at the knees when she blabbers away about using a key fob. First off, you don't need to give the Valet the key card. You can start your car from the app and let the valet take your car. When they go retrieve it, just start the car again from the app.

Before buying a Tesla, plan on how you will charge at home. For the best experience, install a home charger so it charges while you sleep. If a charger is available at work, use it. Understand these are level 2 chargers and typically take multiple hours so you must have something else to do in parallel. Many of the better apartments in Boston and across the country now have chargers. The fee at my apartment is only $20/mo for unlimited use. Superchargers are for road trips and not recommended for daily use.

@@dianagarcia7013 Supercharging rates fluctuate across the country so it’s best to examine a specific location and time. Some locations have very low off-peak rates in the evening and weekends. Tesla recently raised rates so the US rate averages near $0.35 per kWh. Some locations are much lower and areas of CA are about $0.50. Were taking delivery of our 3rd MY within the week.. The one item that caught my eye was your comment about the key fob and the aggravation of having to use the app, to get into the MY. To be clear, are you aware of a setting in the MY, that is walk away lock and proximity unlock??. IOW as long as your phone is on your body and Bluetooth on, as you walk towards the MY, it will unlock and when you leave it will lock. It will also set and remember all your personalized settings . When your Hubby/SO uses his phone, it will remember his settings as well. Rarely should you have to use the app to get in or lock your MY.

Congrats on your third MY! We love the car and now have family members who just got theirs. Yes, we have tried the "Phone as a Key" feature. We just don't prefer it to be the primary option for us. Living downtown in a city and parking in underground garages, if the bluetooth connection doesn't work there is a good chance we already don't have cell service to open the Tesla app and send a signal to the car to unlock. At this point, we need to get the key card out of our wallet and tap the driver pillar. We already carry our house/office keys and our other car has a physical key too. It's nice to be able to not have to worry about the Tesla app being open, bluetooth always on, etc. The key fob remembers driver profiles as well and the buttons are super easy to use (can even open/close the chargeport). Last, handing the key to the valet is great because they don't scratch your driver pillar tapping the card, the car immediately "shifts" into drive when they put their foot on the brake, and there's just less for them to figure out. The future is definitely everything on a device (locks, payments, drivers license, etc.) We love our key fobs but realize it's not necessary for everyone. Thanks for watching!

@@ryankierulf8942 That's not normal behavior. I'm not sure of the exact sequence of steps to fix this is, but I'll try...First, make sure your phone is connecting to the car using Bluetooth, even if the phone is locked or asleep, then go to the quick controls and choose Locks. Under Locks there should be a list of keys (your key card should show up there). If your phone is not showing up, touch the plus(+) button in the upper right hand corner to add the phone. Follow the instructions on the screen. You will need your key card to complete the process. Once the phone is added and connected, you shouldn't need your key fob to access the car if you have your phone with you. If none of this works, I'm not sure what the problem is.

@@JQLouise I understand your reasons for wanting the key fob and I can see why that would be your personal choice. Having the key fob is convenient and probably the best choice for your situation. However, as a former iPhone developer (retired), I can tell you that it's a myth that bluetooth and the Tesla app running in the background contributes significantly to battery drain. It's probably less than 1%, because neither take up a great deal of CPU cycles while in the background. Most of the time, they are in a virtual "off" state and just wake up periodically. Thanks JQ. Lots of good ideas and i mainly agree with them. I took delivery of my MY in January 2021. As for cold weather driving. It would have helped if you mentioned what kind of heating you have used. I have found that using seat heaters and heated steering wheel works pretty good, and this uses way less energy than using the typical heater that blows hot air. As for charging. I almost NEVER use non Tesla chargers. Those are too slow and often broken or already taken. Tesla superchargers are well located and very easy to use and it is very rare that i ever have to wait for someone to leave before i can charge. Just focussing on tesla superchargers makes it easy and fast. Key fob - yes i have one and it is the best. But i sometimes use the keycard. and when i place it on the B pillar i simply look at the driver mirror and if it swings out i know i can use the door. So, i dont have to 'test' the door handle to see if unlocked. As for one pedal driving. I have creep mode turned ON, so my MY does keep moving forward unless i put pressure on the brake.
@JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Those are all really good points and recommendations. When we first got the car in the spring we originally used the heater a lot, but we did transition to mostly using the seat heaters which improved efficiency. Interesting that you only really use Tesla chargers. We have found ChargePoint to be everywhere and depending on what we are doing they can be more convenient. There are tons of free chargers in garages in Boston, all around shopping areas and grocery stores, etc. We really only use Superchargers on road trips or when we need to charge a lot and fast. Good idea on "creep mode". Mud flaps are definite necessity (and now come standard on Northeast cars and some other areas according to our Tesla rep). And pre-heating/cooling is a life saver :) Thanks again for watching!

Maybe chargepoint is getting better, but my last experience with Chargepoint 2 weeks ago was a broken dead charger. And, it seems they usually only have two at one location, so you have to wait if being used. I have two Tesla superchargers pretty close by, and each has at least 12 connections and i never have to wait to connect. @8:45 to my knowledge there is a setting to enable "creeping" like you are used to with an ICE car.
@JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a creep function but that is for when you're at a stop. By "rolling" we really meant "coasting" which would be a limited regenerative braking scenario. Tesla used to ship the cars with a less aggressive regen braking option but removed that a while ago. Consistent speed requires constant pressure on the accelerator. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@thierryvt3 жыл бұрын
@@JQLouise Aah, I see, I must've misunderstood. But yeah, it's one of the "downsides" (if you really want to call it that) of Tesla now that you can't easily adjust the regen or even use one pedal driving. Other brands have solved this by including paddles behind the steering wheel that provide easy access to adjust regen power. Also, lots of new (more luxury) German electric cars are now coming out with adaptive regen where it will look at what is in front of the car to decide how hard to brake. Which is super neat and I hope Tesla will include this too in the near future.

Have you had any issues with the trim around the side windows discoloring after a touchless drive through wash? I was told that this is noted in the manual about acidic washing soap, goo to know. After one wash on my new Y, the black trim looked like it was destroyed by chemicals. It doesn't wipe off either and looks horrible. Tesla said we would have to replace the moldings! Anyone else had this issue, there was some videos about using certain cleaners but why have a trim that is so easily damaged? Thanks.

Coming up on a year in October with 20K , negatives: range lost- trying to run it down in the single digits then charge back to 💯 to see if I’m able to get at least 319 tops!!! I charge up to 80 percent and used to get 286 in range, now. It only goes to 244-50 tops and at 100% I barley get to 300. I hope this doesn’t deplete as my miles go up and the year increases… not a good feeling at all- otherwise the car is great and it would be hard to go back to an ICE but I do miss not having to fill up almost 3-4 times a week since I drive about 400 miles a week… and I have a home charger which elevates that issue of always running going to a Super Charging station (of which is not good for the battery long term) don’t like all of these little nuances but I guess with an electric car you give and take, hopefully in a 5 years we will have a much more stable EV

Question, did you use car play before you got your Tesla? Do you miss it now?
@JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, we had CarPlay in our old car and still have it in our other "ICE" car. Overall, we don't really miss CarPlay because we only ever used it for Waze and music. We still run Waze on a phone (mounted on the dash to the left of the steering wheel so great visibility) and the Spotify/music integration on the Tesla is seamless. We use the navigation on Tesla screen for almost every trip just so we know what percentage state of charge we will arrive with and to compare the energy usage over the trip. Hope this helps. @JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
We are from MA! We have a special front mount license plate holder that we use when not filming. We show how it works in our Top 10 Accessories video at 3:38 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXm9i3qQqsediLs - It's made by 1975 Creations and although we aren't affiliated with them nor receive a commission, they did create a 10% promo code "JQLOUISE" :) Good luck with delivery next week. One trick is to take the front plate mount out of the trunk before the delivery specialist accidentally puts it on without asking. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I would say No to Tesla. I can’t see the convenience of the few minutes of gas fill up to hours of charging. On the top of that you won’t get the same range as a gas vehicle gives you. It’s a pain in the butt. Usually we plan a trip according to our convenience, however, after owing a Tesla, we need make our make our plans according to our Tesla’s charging stations 😂

We've experienced it a couple of times while on autopilot. Not any emergency style braking, but a brief pause where the car slows before resuming it's previous speed. There were a couple updates that were supposed to fix this issue and we haven't had it come back in a while. Autopilot is great but definitely still need to pay attention. If anyone knows this question. Dose the brake lights come on when you are one pedal driving to a stop.
@JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
Yes they do! The car knows when you are slowing down and activates the brake lights as if you were using the brakes in an ICE car. The graphic on the screen shows it. When we first got the car, family commented our brake lights kept coming on the highway (because of deceleration where a normal car might coast). Thanks so much for watching!

Why are you using Charge Point instead of Tesla Chargers?
@JQLouise3 жыл бұрын
Depending on what we are doing, ChargePoint chargers can be more convenient and cheaper. For example when we drove to Newport, the ChargePoint chargers were already in locations where we wanted to be (plus they were free!) We really only use Superchargers on road trips or when we need to charge a lot. Going from 60% to 80% at a SC isn't efficient because we will most likely need to stay with the car the entire time it takes to charge plus it's not as great for the long term health of the battery. Thanks so much for watching!

@klintreading51543 жыл бұрын
Teslas have the setting option to reduce the amount of regenerative breaking to make it behave more like an ICE vehicle.
