I was very naiive when I began and just started with very simple cleansing and self love spells without worrying too much. Then I strated to do more research and suddenly I felt I had been doing evrything wrong. Everybody was talking about deitys, wands, cauldrons and all these other things I had never used or, in some cases, never even heard about. So I began setting up an alter with deitys on that I never really felt a connection to. I worked with spells by others and went out of my way to follow them word for word and spent a lot of money on the way because I didn't have most of what was supposedly needed for it. All of that felt so wrong, that I stopped praciticing for years. And then I stumbled across a line somewhere saying that every witch has a different way of practicing and that you didn't have to be wiccan or work with deitys to be a witch and that blew my mind. So I had been right all along! I started my practice and my research once again but this time listening to what felt right for me and sticking to it. The void I had felt without the craft was filked and I couldn't be happier now! The one thing I do wish I had known and done from the beginning, is keeping a book of shadows. It would have been nice to look back at how I started, but it's okay. I keep several seperate ones and they are an invalble part of my craft.

Congratulations on having found your way! That’s amazing 😊 We very much share the same experience. I started my journey out pretty much the same way over 20 years ago, with sincerity and intuition as my guides. Then I came upon my first Wiccan books and all through my teenage years I followed others’ scrips. Never felt right and led me to a couple of years of not practicing in early adulthood. I was called back however and eventually found my way. I’ve found me craft as well as myself and it’s a wonderful place to be spiritually.

Such great points. I first started practicing witchcraft more than 40 years ago. I say “first started” because I’ve restarted several times. As my life has changed, my path has changed, too, and I’ve been a beginner at something or everything just about forever. The life-long journey advice really hit home for me. If you’re always learning, you’ll always be beginning something, and I think that’s at the heart of living life as an adventure. The journey is the doing. Regarding closed practices, I avoid them for two reasons: Either they are exclusive groups that maintain secrecy and separation, and that might work for some people, but it’s not my scene. I don't dig exclusivity, in witchcraft or anything else, honestly. Or else the practices are someone else’s cultural tradition, and I want to respect them enough not to do their thing without their invitation. Being an American and from NYC, I come from a multicultural society, so if I feel a connection with a type of practice or a deity or spirit, I will work with them, but in my own way. I won't imitate their mother culture's rituals or language unless I am properly educated and welcomed into it. That's how I approach things.

@@malisastarot that is not necessarily true , closed doesn’t mean secret, It means it can be practiced only by a specific group of people. There is info out there about closed practices but it doesn’t mean that because there is info It can be practiced by everyone ;) we should always pay attention, get informed on where practices come from, try to not appropriate and respect everybody’s boundaries

@@RoxyRocksTV I get that some practices are held to be sacred by some and should be practiced with permission. And I respect that. I also think we are part of a greater community and spiritual practices belong to all that wish to learn or seek. Putting up barriers to say 'you can't have that experience' doesn't feel right to me. Appropriation is a big topic. I'm from multiple cultures and I like to do ancestor type work, but because I have no teacher or other means to learn how to ancestor work, I'll seek guidance from others traditions to help guide me. There is nothing wrong with that - in my opinion. If the information is out there, yes I will adapt or use it to help in my journey. We all come from the same source we are all stardust we are all divine.

@@malisastarot I think individually we can decide what to share of our personal practice but we can't obligate other communities to share what they don’t want to share or have the attitude that everything belongs to us just because we want it. Again, if you don't want to put barriers, share YOUR practices, but if other communities have boundaries we should respect them. it's the respectful think to do 😅 if you have ancestors in those communities you can access those practices, it’s not close to you! But research, maybe you need to be initiated to practice, maybe you need to study certain things, maybe you need to find an elder that can initiate you and mentor you. I think part of it is to learn these things so you don’t risk doing something that would be disrespectful to your ancestors, or simply doing things you might be getting from other communities that simply don’t resonate with them, making it harder for you to connect, because it’s not all the same, especially to our ancestors. At least this is how I see it 😊 good luck

This hit me like a wave: "All those coincidences or moments you wished for that came to be are examples of accidental everyday spellwork". Certain things that have happened that I wished for, I've been awestruck, because it seemed impossible or improbable. I find this really interesting as an Irish person when I see people talking about Samhain, Bealtaine, Lúnasa etc. which come from my culture (did you know all of these words are in Irish, our original language? : ) ). I see a lot of my culture being appropriated, particularly by English and American Witches. They don't even spend the few seconds it takes to learn how to pronounce the previously mentioned words, let alone learn about our history and where these festivals etc. come from. It can be especially hurtful when English Witches do it considering how our language & culture have been damaged (and almost erased in the case of our language, Gaeilge) by their ancestors. Sometimes it seems only some cultures deserve respect and not others. Just my rambling thoughts on the subject.

By the way, I should take this moment to also acknowledge shared cultures and especially our connection to the wild & beautiful Scotland. I've been in and out of practicing over the years but now I'm fully in. I've learned so much over the years but I love how we still learn pretty much forever - but the one thing that's super important is INTENTION. Its unique to each witch and is the foundation of literally everything!
@BW-jm5qq2 жыл бұрын
I consider myself a baby witch, I've had my own altars for years and have always had a connection to the natural. I dabble in rituals where I have guidance beforehand from a local shop I trust and am thankful to live in a place that allows such shops to exist. I'm finally accepting that I'm ready to learn past my intuition. Past this, I agree that INTENTION is very important. Growing up in conservative Christian areas of the US, the word "faith" is a very harsh and controlling word to me. It's a big reason why avoided diving into witchcraft because I have my own beliefs and any sense of organized religion brings be back to the oppression of being the outsider, not free to express my own thoughts or feelings. Again, this is my journey, but I think it is important for people to separate the common phrases used by organized religions that inflict harm on others. This is my opinion and is not meant to bring harm, but I want some awareness around it. Especially since that word itself was used against me in my youth.

Closed practices are a hard one(I’m not advocating for practicing them) simply because what is closed or open depends on a persons definition, for instance someone once told me that I can’t commune with local nature spirits because I’m not native(Which I am) while another said that because she’s native she can sell people white sage that she buys from Walmart but they can’t openly buy it, so I’d say do research and be as respectful as you can.

As long as you're not trying to specifically call upon the spirits worshiped by the indigenous tribes of your area, I don't think you're at any risk. I think I'm actually paralyzed that my practice won't be perfect. When I practice a spell or try something new, it works, I have no doubt in that, but I still shy away from new things. It took me a long time to understand that magick is intention made manifest... and that all the gear, the herbs, candles, colors, and spellwork..etc... are vehicles to help manifest intention. Years ago, I remember being so frustrated trying to cast a circle in traditional way.... and then something occurred to me.... I could do the very same thing.. but in my own way... understanding that it's more about calling upon the elements and directions... while setting intention. Since then I made my own path (something I do in general in my life in many ways)... and my practice has come to mean so much more to me... and is far more successful because it's mine and made by me. Honestly, I cannot think of anything more personal and unique than one's spiritual path. Thank you for your wonderful videos~

Yes, I'm a 66yr old newbie to witchcraft. I've had signs all my life but being a single mom kept me busy. Now I'm retired. And kept busy with crafts and grandchildren. I adopted an 8yr. old cat from a shelter. I didn't know until I signed her papers, that her name was Minerva. She was my soul mate. I say was because she passed away from cancer. I see her sitting by her burial site in my backyard waiting for me. One day my oldest daughter (age 42) told me that I'm ignoring a calling. So, I made an alter and the first attempt I started meditation, Minerva came through!!! I was SO surprised. She handed me a green stone and told me to continue and that she would be with me. Every time I meditate, someone else comes through. Archangel Michael blew me away. I broke out in tears upon awakening. Hecate is beautiful and peaceful with a smile to light the world. Outdoor experiences might "be a much" for neighbors, although there are ways to "camouflage" what you are doing...I am raking my yard, >I am really "clearing negativity and cleaning up trash in my life"...I am washing my vehicle >Using herbs in the rinse water, I am making my travels safe...I am lighting Tiki torches around my pool to dissuade insects, it's a 5-pointed star>...I am going to light a fire in my backyard fire bowl (SAFELY) and then maybe add a chunk of Palo Santo or resin - neighbors don't need to know... I am cleaning my shoes with a brush with Rosemary water (a mini broom) to keep my path walking forward...intention. Plant a "magical garden" - even if it is just one plant or a healthful plot producing vegetables and lovely flowers for your home and to share with friends. For "new folks" - I would like to share a thought on planting a tree: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the next best time to plant a tree is TODAY. Plant your tree... WE are NOT the green-faced, warty-nosed, big-chin folks that are portrayed in movies and media - we are Nature workers... These are the "Old Ways", that many folks have forgotten - work with Nature as you see fit. Teach your children the magic of starting a bean seed. AVOID Weather magic workings! Craft your own tools - Make a wand from a gifted fallen tree branch, repurpose a butter knife to become your Athame - just my thoughts, and I am glad to have found your channel. Merry Meet, Merry Part, and Merry Meet again. Blessed Be!

Could you do a video on closed practices? I feel like it would be beneficial to have a good bit of information about it in one place. This is a great video thank you for your inspiration

Thank you so much for sharing! I think everyone needs to hear that once in a while. Especially the part of the craft can change and evolve. I feel that most think if it does, it is a bad thing but it isn´t, it is natural. Have a nice day!

Anabelle - I would love if you may make a video on Cultural appropriation and closed practices...I admittedly struggle with grasping this subject and while controversial I think you can make a beautifully informed video on this subject so individuals like may understand what it means. Thank you.

Hello my name is Sven. I am a 51 soon to be 52 yr old Bisexual man. I just wanted to say this channel has amazing advice and is a very common sense driven approach to learn witchcraft. As soon as I can I want to become a Patreon. (Which will be my next paycheck). I am getting back into the craft after falling into the pitfalls you discussed in your vod's. I wanted to restart on my 52nd birthday, a present to myself. Thank you for having these VOD's

I only wish I have learned about rootwork, Ancestral honor, wild witchiness and being more comfortable with my own family paths. I've been on the path for more than 20 years. Always learn-never stop. Shadow work is important but do so with CAUTION or guidance. Agree with the closed practices. Even though I have Native bloodlines, I've no idea which tribe so until called by Spirit or I find out what family side, I keep that free of my magicks. Good luck all. Practices always.

I wasn't very sure of what I'd get from watching the videos. I appreciate your testimony and advices, but I wasn't really into a magical reflexion. I've learned from your plant preparation at the end and felt reconciliated with an idea of what contemporary witchcraft became. Thanks to share with us online. I very much appreciate that it's not a commercial recuperation of these practices and knowledge or a hollywoodian take on witchcraft. Wish you a lifelong fullfilling practice free of illusions.

I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. They truly make a difference. I'm just now beginning my journey and I have to say, it's a confusing craft to start. Haha. Finding your first "things i wish i knew" video led me to alllll your other videos which has just been a blessing to find. So please know that if you ever think you're not helping, you really are. So thank you again. ❤️ 😊👍

I found your channel yesterday and I’ve been binge watching. I’ve been curious about witchcraft for a while. Biggest thing I’m struggling with is wondering if it’s OK to practice and be a Christian. I was raised in the Christian faith and it’s some thing I hold a lot of valuing.

These videos are so beautifully put together and reassuring to me .. it’s almost as if while I’m listening and my mind has a question.. you answered them .. very helpful! I was so concerned that I had to have everything and do things just as another does .. but your guidance has helped me realize.. these things are truly just an enhancement of what I hold inside of me already.. my intuition has always been one of my strongest attributes and now I feel confident I can begin to truly practice and not worry about having the exact materials! Not having anyone to talk to about these things your videos have been a great resource and comfort.. please keep them coming ❤️

I am overwhelmed by all of this. Accepting that I may have a calling to this and believing in the existence of Magic and it's presence in our every day life. I have in so many ways been witness to the power of Will and intent and even been the source. But my upbringing in Christianity put fear of all this in my heart, yet never extinguished the flame of curiosity. Forever searching for what felt right I've studied other faiths and religions but to no avail. My search is for knowledge and understanding of this world we live and why it is as it is. All leading to the here n now. Metaphysics. It then dawned on me that knowledge is power and those powers that be has meticulously and methodically stamped out those who had such knowledge in their pursuit of absolute power. If we all are in the darkness without faith in the light that is within us..we are all under thumb of those more educated in the arts. I've never been one of those "under thumb" . And have always known that just because you don't see doesn't mean it doesn't exist or is real. I'm not gonna call myself a witch but ...I am as magical as anyone else. Again ..ty for this💚

today i realized what i believe in was witchcraft all along, i wasn't really religious before but i did believe putting your intentions and soul into something could effect the outcome, i always thought witchcraft was a bunch of crazy people convinced they could shoot fireballs [kidding, i just didn't really get it] but, now i get it, and it's what i've been doing all along and i want to hone this as a skill
