I'm the new owner of your T here in cville, just want to say I totally love your build down to every detail. I got the dashcams installed, they work pretty well but are tiny bit intrusive/ugly. Very very happy to own the car and never would have gotten an allocation! I love the shark blue, rear steering, white tach/clock, full leather. Previous car was a black 2018 F87 M2.
@jonwarshawsky52887 ай бұрын
A very reflective and honest video. The shark blue is beautiful, but Porsche enthusiasts have traditionally been more into the driving than the "look at me" factor. If you have a 911, it's already a handsome and prestigious car. No need to shout. Also, on the bucket seats, I totally agree. My 964 and 993 came with the "comfort" seats and unless you're planning some serious track time you don't need deep buckets. They wear badly and make everyday use a hassle. Many options are just garnish, and somehow the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 owners get by without a leather dash.
@detonator21127 ай бұрын
964 and 993 are the peak Porsches in many ways. Sure they're not fast cars by modern standards but they still look and feel like real Porsches. Actually 996 (although not built at the same quality level) still feels very compact and mechanical compared to the new ones. Ironically the new ones became too good. LOL.

Agree 100%, I chose GT Silver on my 992 C2S because it was not flashy. The shape of the car is bold enough. Also stayed away from the red leather and chose black leather with Bordeaux stitching and seat belts. I was completely committed to getting a 992 Carrera T for the last 6 months. When it came time to make the decision a couple weeks ago, I sat in one at the dealership for 30 minutes. It just didn’t feel right. It was so big and so unbelievably posh/refined in the cabin. I know it’s an incredibly capable, livable sports car but it felt like such a departure from the 996 Turbo I was trading in. It’s almost like they have made it too perfect and a car that caters to such a broad audience. And in doing that, it lost some of the rawness and purity I loved about my 996 and Carrera 3.2. I then sat in a Cayman GTS 4.0 they had in the showroom. It immediately felt right. The size, the simplicity of the cabin. It honestly felt about the same size as my 996, just without the rear seats. The dealer was somehow able to give me an allocation and I just locked in my build spec in chalk + 6 speed manual for an August delivery. As a die hard 911 person I never thought I would find myself lusting for a Cayman, but it just felt better and purer to me. Hopefully I made the right call!

This video is gold for anyone configuring a 992. A couple thoughts; I have a hunch that the bang-for-buck could have been missing on the full leather and race-tex headliner because of everything being all black. Any material in black is the most subdued you can get. If it was in slate grey, Bordeaux red, or truffle brown, I think leather/race-tex vs standard becomes a lot more noticeable. So yeah, if sticking with black, probably good advice to keep it basic. For the sunroof, if the big issue is too much exterior color and you want to break it up, keep the standard roof and then just get it black vinyl wrapped after delivery. Thanks for your honesty with all this. It’s such good information for all the people out there that are considering a 992.

It is so easy to get caught up with all that extraneous stuff. You are buying a sports car not a 2seater limo. In 1980 when I drove my first 911, there were very few options.available. You got quality, not luxury and a car that embarrassed pretty much everything else on the road with its handling and engagement. People told you you paid too much and there were quirks to live with. But you knew what you had. I was able to recreate that experience with my 2024 T by resisting the options trap. I have chose very few and focus on the drive, not all the distractions.

I bought a 992 C2S about the same time you bought your T. I had the ability to get an allocation for either T or an S. I went with the S with all of the performance add ons. Performance was most important and I thought why not go with the extra power. Some say it’s too much power and takes away from the fun of ‘driving a slow car fast”. I couldn’t disagree more. The S isn’t ’too much’ power and feels right to me. I’m so glad to hear your bottom line was you would have gone with the S. In researching my decision, I couldn’t find an equivalent S/T comparison. Maybe for me it is just that all the wind blowing everywhere makes me notice it less. Haha. As for the driving experience, like you I am an air cooled guy with a 993 and a 964 (owned them 30 years). The T is definitely sanitised compared to the air cooled cars. However, as far as modern 911s go it's the closest to the early car experience, and I must say I prefer the lower power of the T versus say an S as it allows me to get on the throttle and still feel I can rev it out more like one can do with the old cars. I bought a 2024 Carrera T and a 2024 Cayman GTS 4.0L. Never was able to test drive either one, but both seemed amazing based on reviews, so ended up buying both. Like yourself I’ve come to a similar conclusion, the Cayman GTS 4.0L is definitely my favourite. The engine is far superior in sound and responsiveness. The 911 is muffled in comparison and the delay of power from the turbos is irritating when you are used to a NA engine. Plus the manual transmission is far better in feel in the Cayman. I don’t think the Carrera S or GTS would solve either problem. Only the GT3 would. Now looking to upgrade to that. I don’t want to completely knock on the T. It’s a great touring car. I checked a lot of luxury boxes (full leather, 18 ways, Burmester deviated stitching, adaptive cruise, etc) but I found that the 911 is a loud rough sports car no matter how you luxury it up, and I ultimately preferred the more simple driver-spec of my GT4. I am an old guy and I do not care about tracking the car, but I love new tech and bursts of speed, without turbo lag. They included rear wheel steer and ACC, no manual but PDK due to the electric motor sandwiched inside the transmission. The rear diffuser has the pipes close together and looks cool. Love your honesty.... and you're a big man for admitting when you've made a mistake. When you first spec'ed your T, I was like, "you spent WHAT for a T??? You should have gotten an S." So now, we eagerly await your next move to get an S...

Curious if you would have just done a simple tune or piggy back would you have been happier with the performance? [note: starting to do my research for my first Porsche so don’t know if there is a “piggy back” option] Lastly, on the “wind problem” … I have obviously never had a Porsche but I have had multiple cars with “sun roofs”. I say this that this “sun roof” feature is really intended for just cruising around at probably no more than 40 mph around town. And the “buffeting” regardless of car and tricks like open the windows in a certain configuration to get less buffeting is false… I don’t blame you for wanting the glass roof and since you are not racing it I too would have ordered it that way… I think it is just like you said “new car fever”. Thank you for the honesty. It certainly helped.

+1 about the back of the 992. If it’s not the turbo or the gt cars, it just feels so not right. Not to mention how bad it looks when the spoiler extends. And that comes from a huge Porsche fan and happy owner of multiple models…

Order what you want if you intend to keep it for awhile, don’t worry about the cost. I ordered a white 2017 Carrera with the red and black leather interior, PDK and Sport Chrono. I don’t plan on selling it despite getting frequent emails from the dealer wanting me to upgrade to a 992. Good info. Thanks.

Great video, I had optioned my T, and am about to make changes based on your feedback. I had the Turbo S with the rear steering and tracked it, It made a lot of difference on the track. To your point , probably not needed for an every day driver. I had lot of Ferraris and Lambos go sliding off the rack trying to follow my Turbo S. 911, into corners. I need a stick shift and I won’t be tracking this car , so for me , my only choice is GT3 or the T. The GT3 is an overkill for an every day driver, in my view.

I was about to option my T , when I saw your video. . Going to make some changes based on your input. My choice is GT3 or the T, I need a stick shift and I want something I can drive every day. The GT3 seems like overkill , if I am not going to track it. I track a turbo S 911 with rear steering and I enjoy it. A lot of Ferraris and Lambos have gone off the track trying to follow me through corners. I wont track the T , so probably overkill to have rear steering .

I have a T, shark blue, rear wheel steering, PDK, 18 way seats, glass sun roof etc. I’ve had it for 10 months and have 5200 miles on it. Drove a manual 2001 Boxster S for 23 years prior to getting this one, but have also had opportunities to drive 996, 997.1 base and GT3RS, 991 C2S & GT3, even a 964. To me the T is super comfortable, you can get into a flow state with it, it has more than adequate power for the public road, no it’s not extremely fast feeling, but in the NYC area where I live I couldn’t even use the power of the Boxster S, and I just don’t really see the value in more power. The engine note used to be a bit disappointing but I’ve noticed it’s starting to sound better recently - like it opened up. It’s not a GT3 but it’s fine for me. I don’t much care for the sports exhaust or pops and bangs. The 18 ways work well for me, I used to get a back pain from the Boxster if I drove for more than 3hrs and that’s not the case here at all. I LOVE the rear wheel steering, makes the car super agile and it feels planted and not artificial to me. I agree there’s too much buffeting from the sun roof. What I love about the T is it can feel sporty when you want it to, but it can also be comfortable when you want it to be. I’ve driven the car to SC and back and it’s a wonderful GT car as well. Is it worth the money? Well, I’d rather have it than any other car at its price point….i expect I’ll keep this car for many years. My love for my Boxster only grew with time, and I suspect the same will be true of the T. It has true depth.

Will, Nice to hear an honest answer about your experience. I think you’re correct when saying there is lots of hype and marketing around these cars especially when a new model arrives it’s always “oh you have to have this car it’s special”. When the ST came out all other GT3’s were just not as good? Very repetitive in the Porsche world. Cheers

I have 18 way in two cars one 991.1 and one 991.2 and love them. That being said, the 992 seats look slightly different. It’s possible Porsche changed the design?
@Rennthusiast7 ай бұрын
The 992 left and right seat bottom bolsters are taller than the 991’s and the 18 ways have a metal piece inside that makes them have no give…so if you don’t sit dead on straight it digs into your thigh…or at least it did for me. I had a random chance to sit in the 992 4 ways a day or so ago and the side bolsters don’t have anything inside of them to adjust them so they have give…presumably making them more comfortable.

Can you tell me what the experience is like with the manual? All the videos I’ve seen, the gear shifter looks very rubbery and long throws. The gear shifter on the GT3 or S/T looks far better in terms of shifting.

I'm not into most of the chintzy tat on the options list. But don't know how you could spec one of these cars from new with the plastic door cards and dash, makes the interior feel so cheap. ANd and the leather door cards and dash are not heavier than the plastic ones. Someone weighed the 991 plastic and leather dash options and the leather dash was lighter. The leather dash isn't the plastic dash plus leather covering. They both use the same base structure, but have either a soft-touch plastic covering or a leather covering.

My Taycan 4S has all the upgrades: full leather, full tech, big brakes, big wheels. It’s a daily driver for 80 mile commute in Los Angeles. My Carrera T has LWBS, standard T interior (gray stitching), slick top, and Bose stereo. It’s a weekend car for trips to wine country or blasts in the canyons. Buy the trim and spec it for your use case. You bought a T but wanted and need an S, which is why you tried to spec the T into an S.

Earlier this year my Z06 allotment was a month out. I had no experience with a 911, though wanted to rule it out before ordering Chevrolet. Visited my local Porsche and the sales rep put me in a 992 T with PDK. I did not like that car at all, and after the test drive I ruled out Porsche 911. My sales rep persisted and suggested the 992 S. Initially I balked - how could the S be so different compared to the T? I drove the 992 S and never looked back. I was enamored by the S, shocked, and even removed myself from the Z06 allocation. I now own 992 C2S with PDK.

Hi Will, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think it underscores why Porsche's become so personal. Our Ruby Star Neo manual came in at $134,000. -We love the 18 way seats because my wife can easily get in and out of them vs buckets we had in a previous car and raise the height. I drive mostly with her in the car. -We like the glass sunroof because we have so many grey and overcast days in Seattle... eventhough we hardly open it. -Our 2017 Riviera Blue Targa 4S manual had rear steering and I think it benefitted from it Our T does not and being about 500lbs lighter I didn't think it needed it & without it feels more like early 911's I've owned. -I kept the T interior and added full leather, kept stickers and T wheels so it is immediately identified as a T. -My wife loves color so all of our cars and pretty bright. Python 718 4.0, Wimbledon Green Boxster, Peridot for our Cayman R. I think this makes them kind of special occasion cars. Funny enough our daily Macan is Chalk. Lastly, not sure if you've seen Nathan's latest video comparing 991T, 992T and GT3 Touring? It was a fun day. Looking forward to your future videos! Gary

Interesting subject to explore. A lot of expensive appearance options just come down to taste an don't add much interms of other satisfactions. But the feedback on the sunroof was invaluable. And the comments on RWS were interesting and deserve further exploration since fellow KZbinr Janko Lind, who places a great deal of emphasis on performance and "feel" says he wouldn't order one without it, saying it shortens the feeling of the wheelbase. With a history of back problems I too place a lot of importance on seat, But I've found the Sports Seats + in my Boxter GTS to be just about perfect even without any lumbar adjustment.

This helped a lot. I bought a 718 Boxster T with FBSeats and Burmester. With extended leather plus interior package, it was a 2023 $101k car. It is much more beautiful and better driver’s car than most things. I was considering pairing it with a Carrera T, but now you have shown that i could do it well, but i might as well go S and make it more posh. I personally would do the 911 T with CF roof and seats. But maybe it still would need more power. If it was not for this and the other video , i also would have never doubted the rear axle steering. -rear axle +cf roof +cf seats +interior package first level Might make a T more T ish However my 718 T is now under 3000 lbs. maybe it’s just a better T :( Guess i go S with luxury Burmester is my favorite option

Agreed 100%, the 992 fascia’s are ugly af. I have a 991.2, and it’s such a more elegant and beautiful look to me. The Sport Design package is a must for me with the 992, and to get black pieces you have to get gloss and it costs over $6k! There is no way they can get me to trade my 991.2 T in for a new one! Mine was $116k MSRP, has LWBS optioned, came standard with race Tex roof ($1500 option 992), good looking front/rear fascia no need for $6k Sport Design, and a couple other options. When I spec a 992 T it comes out over $140k! Madness, just not worth the $ to me. I have a brand new Taycan 4S that was $145k MSRP, so I’m willing to spend the $ for the right car, but a T isn’t worth it to me at that price when I just got one a couple of years ago for so much less that is a better looking car with better driving experience (IMHO).

I just picked up my 992 911t. I have also had a 991.2 T. I have Driven a 992 S at the Porsche Experience Center. First off, I have to say that I love the 992T and it fixes all the things that I didn’t like in the 991.2. The one thing that was much better about the 991.2 was the PSE. The PSE on the 992 is not great. I haven’t noticed the 992 T and 992 S to be much different in terms of power or excitement. I believe that one of the reasons that there are so many different Porsche models is that there is one to fit what each person is looking for in a 911. When I had my 991.2 T, every time I went in for service, everyone would also comment about the T and the fact is that the T is more rare and has limited production compared to the S. and because of this, I more appreciate the T. The T is also not supposed to be their faster motor and as Nick Murray has said, you have to work the car a little bit which is part of it’s essence. I have also owned a 22 Macan S and a 23 Macan GTS. I would say that the Macan S was lacklustre. I thought the 23 base Macan was a much better value then the S and the GTS was much more of a enthusiasts car then the S and I have to wonder if the ownership experience of the 911’s would be the same. I would guess that the 911 GTS would be much more of an experience and have a sense of occasion then the 911 S.
@corgi_leonberger72337 ай бұрын
Agree about the sunroof - experienced wind buffeting too on a GTS. Surprised you didn't get on with the 18-ways. The 4-ways have no lumbar support which is their downside. RWS is over hyped and since the ST has come out without it journalists are now praising the lack of it! The PDLS lights are incredible. 992T manual is such a sweet car to drive on the road because it's not over powered.
@stantheman51637 ай бұрын
Very informative for both the true shopper and the tire kickers. I was surprised that you opted for the rear wheel steering as it seemed to be an option that offset the little weight savings afforded by the T package without a need unless you were tracking the car. They don´t give a weight savings for the carbon fiber roof which is what I might spend the money on instead of the rear steering, but only if the weight savings would be worthwhile. Valuable insights on the interior trim as well. Most importantly, your conclusion that the car felt under-powered would be very significant for most shoppers who also have no ability to test drive a T. A person new to Porsche might not see it that way, but no one wants to feel underwhelmed after shelling out this kind of money.

I think that the punchline on this whole experience is that it was an incredible privilege to custom order a new 911, the 992 generation overall is numb and a “driver’s spec” 991.2 Carrera T is really the sweet spot for me. I’ll do a video on my S in the next week or so just discussing what I think of it now that I have the T to compare it against.
