coconut oil saved my scalp sooo many times! i’ve had quite some chemical burns after bleaching my long hair over and over again and it took years for my scalp to get back from that. ever since i buzzed my hair i started bleaching again and using a lower volume (vol 20 or 6%) doesn’t burn or itch my scalp plus massaging your scalp with a fair amount of coconut oil at least an hour before bleaching helps a LOT. my hair is brown black and very stubborn with bleaching, but when i do it this way i get it almost white in 30 minutes without pain!

The breakdown is so real. I buzzed my hair on Monday and cried and cried and cried as we did it. It wasn't this 'boss b****' moment that I was hoping for - I immediately felt so anxious and worried about what other people would think of me, and I spent the first day at home with a beanie on trying to come to terms with it. Going about my normal routine of uni and work this week was exhausting - but everyone has been so supportive! It is just hair after all, and also its only my own opinion that really matters! It has been a huge learning curve in confidence and in realising a lot of my anxieties are all in my head. I will say, though, that because it is such a statement piece, I have had strangers in public comment on my appearance so much more! Mostly positive things, but I never thought about the fact that people would assume I was asking for attention with my hair- it was just something I did for me, after all. So yeah! That's my two cents. If you are thinking about it, do it, but be prepared to go on a bit of a journey with it!

I’ve been a hair model and doing my own roots since the middle of pandemic - I literally don’t wash my hair for at least a week. People can be pretty rough with their scalp when washing and every microcut will be felt during bleaching If you don’t get all the bleach off your scalp and feel tingly and itchy, get a bottle with a sharp tip (like the kind with box dye), and fill it with a mixture of water and vinegar - the high pH of acid neutralizes the low pH of the bleach and the tip helps it get to your scalp easily and without having to completely soak your hair in it if longer hair is an issue. It's only expensive if you want to dye it. Otherwise you don't need a lot of hair product and stuff like that so it's quite cheap but that's just a side note. Money shouldn't hold you back from getting a buzz cut :)
