The most notable part of this scene (to me) isn't that Shadowheart turns her back on Shar, but that in doing that, weakens Shar to the point that Selune is able to restore Aylin's raiment in the heart of Shar's own realm.
@Magicwillnz11 ай бұрын
What's great about this scene is that there's absolutely no indication that Shadowheart will betray Shar. Going through the scene the first time, you actually think she might kill her.
@Turabbo11 ай бұрын
Honestly that sounds like exactly the sort of thing that would indicate awful writing lol All throughout Act 2 there's little scenes of development where she tries to reconcile the awful behaviour of Shar. She's lost her memory so now she has a fresh chance to reflect on her god's terrible behaviour. When you start this conversation, they've been foreshadowing the whole "murder a Selunite" thing for ages. When it turns out the person she's gonna murder is the exact reason why Ketheric's so powerful, it makes the decision SUPER hard for a first time player! If there'd been none of this anxiety, and this conversation was the very first time you discussed betrayal with her, it would've felt really cheap.

On my first playthrough, I let her choose, she chose kill, and then failed a persuasion check to make her think again, and she ended up killing Aylin. I don't know exactly what I did or didn't do that caused this, but it's evidently not set in stone what she will do if you let her choose.
@trh3xa17411 ай бұрын
@@sam4330 I believe if you pursued a relationship with her/or maybe a high approval? is what triggers her into not killing Aylin. Shar's thing has always been only love your Goddess Shar (she talks about this in the ending if she becomes a Dark Justiciar and she stays with you something about don't mistake it as love) but since you decide to pursue her in a relationship by getting a high enough approval from her, it contradicts her beliefs and what not and she doubts Shar and her past.
@Sp4rt4nSl4ya11 ай бұрын
My scene didn't quite play out like this, Shadowheart was fierce in the beginning, but once Aylin made the wolves comment that fierceness crumbled and she turned to me asking what to do. This is probably due not only to having max affinity and pursuing romance with her, but also because earlier in act 1 my character succeeded a religion check when she was sharing her memory of being lost in the woods and the Sharrans found her. The check told me about the Selunite ritual of sending the young into the woods as a coming of age rite. I told her as much when it gave me the option after and while she was highly disturbed by it, she didn't outright dismiss it entirely. After traveling in the shadow cursed lands she was full of doubt as well.
@jadedllamas11 ай бұрын
I have played enough times that I skip most cutscenes, but I never ever skip this one. Aylin truly is resplendent, but I love most of all that she doesn’t just shake off a century of torment without trauma. She doesn’t weep and moan, but her “a paladin’s fatigue” comment speaks volumes in Ramazith’s tower. That and she loves like a huge puppy, with no shame or doubt while still being able to crush a skull or three if needed.

The first time I did this (technically my second campaign), Shadowheart wasn't part of my main team, so I went in without her. This causes her to confront you afterwards, where she berates you because she trusted you and you destroyed her future. She isn't angry because of your choice regarding Aylin, she's angry because you denied her the chance to choose her own future(since becoming a Dark Justiciar is her greatest dream at this point). And then she permanently leaves. So the second time I did this, Shadowheart was in my party and I let her choose without interference like in this video. Boy was I anxious, and I was genuinely, actually proud of her for choosing the light. This actually reminds me of one of the Canterbury Tales, where a knight is given a year and a day to discover what women want or be executed(as punishment). The answer being "choice".
@jacklee46910 ай бұрын

@jagondal837810 ай бұрын
@@jacklee469 TL;DR: I had a bad case of the dumb-dumbs. She wasn't a primary team member for that campaign. Laezel spends the entire first act hounding you about the creche, and then is only grouchy if you didn't take her and doesn't seem to care if you eradicate the residents. I didn't know what to expect the first time in, and then I sorta forgot about her while delving lol Also, in the moment, the portal's warning seemed like "you have to do something before you can leave again" and not "all of act 2's poo will hit the fan when you enter". Mistakes were made and lessons learned that I probably should have picked up on beforehand.

I know, it feels like you could end the game right there and it would have been fine. I mean you freed a gods child, and fought with her to kill the god of death (or so he claims). How do you top that? By...fighting a giant brain. OK. The issue is that the Netherbrain is never presented as the eldritch horror it really is. The fight against the Netherbrain should have had the same build up as the fight against Lavos (from Chrono Trigger).

I love Aylin’s character sooo much! 🔥 And her voice acting too! 🔥 She’s so fierce. No matter what path you choose with her here / in Moonrise / in Ramazith’s tower… she always gives it her all. I think she’s the biggest surprise favourite for me on the full release. Like… Astarion was always going to be great and that was delivered, but Aylin I had no expectations for as she came out of nowhere. What boggles my mind is when I see comments on KZbin videos dismissing her because of her relationship with Isobel. People thinking their story is just “wokeness” or something like that that’s being forced on them in the story. I _could_ maybe get it if the commenters were just throwing a tantrum and projecting their envy over Aylin…. like I know Aylin doesn’t swing my way (or my Tav’s way)… and that’s kind of a shame for me as she’d be a fantastic ride-or-die. But to just turn your mind off to a fantastic character because of your real-life political hangups?! LOL no sense. It just makes no sense.

Of course it doesn't. Those people are terminally insecure and so narrow-minded they could look through a keyhole with both eyes at the same time. I have grown to detest the way certain Hollywood studios try to spread The Message(tm) with all the subtlety of a brass band in hobnailed boots trampling through a night mass, all the while neglecting good storytelling, but this game did everything awesomely right. LGBTQ+ themes and characters just ARE, with no side taken, just matter-of-fact, while the story always takes precedence. Hell, even the party members are whatever sexuality you want or need them to have. Us players are treated like adult, thinking humans, and not dumb consumers to be educated. I did not even realize how much I missed that until I played this game.

I... do have to wonder how these folks made it through the character-creation process, where you are essentially invited to assign your character's pronouns separately from their (physically visible) sexual characteristics and build. Lol characters are whatever sexuality you "want or need" and you think that's great somehow? Or are you perhaps feeding your fantasy that the world and people in it are there to be as you please, devices for you to use to define your identity? How is expecting others to mould to your sexual preferences in any way the purview of a "thinking adult", rather than a crass consumer of fantasy and delusion reflecting only your own mould? You've learnt nothing of real people and thought nothing of real life, you've simply sought out ideas that already reflect your own and hailed them as the righteous path! That is the essence of wokeness, blindly insisting that others must think as you do. And it leads to an inability to understand the divergent views of real humans and their real needs and rejection of dogmatic insistence on falsehoods, their recognition of life as something other than fiction. Most people know men cannot be women, and women cannot be men. They know these impossibilities are out of their control, but they don't rail against the world for it, they learn to accept it. It is the dogmatically inflexible that insist we pretend it anyway. That's no diversity, that's a prison. And people know it, they know the woke offer no consolation to the injustices of life, only division, delusion and condemnation. Reality is not whatever rainbow colours you think it ought to be. The entire woke way of thinking can be dismantled with a simple philosophical meditation on the difference between the normative and positive. Life is not what you wish it to be

The end of act 2 was my favorite part of the game.

while i do appreciate effort put in these cutscenes by devs, and they are indeed epic, IMO nothing can compare to cutscenes from FFXIV, and music in them, it's just on another lvl, especially Shadowbringers part, this reminded me a bit of those

Well the new FF did beat out BG3 in the music category for the games award. Alone they aren't much, but with the context of the story, they tend to soar.

@@tipfertool5457 yeah FF composers are on another level, to be fair Down By The River from BG3 and Raphael's final act are epic, but overall FF OSTs are something else, i played FFXIV for a while and every fight felt different and epic when it comes to music, every boss has it's own theme and hypes you up for a fight, but kudos to BG3 and devs, well deserved game of the year, im lit about to fight Elder Brain and i absolutely loved the game (i just hate all Karlach endings, thats a thorn that hurts)
