What I Wrote in My Personal Statement to Apply to Waseda!

Hello! I am a student who lives in America and am trying to apply to Waseda University. I am applying with the major of Mathematical Science. I found this video helpful; my SAT score was below average, so I needed a perfect essay to have some chance. I still have some questions on me and I would like to know if I can get help from you. 1) Is an interview mandatory? 2)I think we have exactly the same prompt for personal statements except for the major. From the prompt, it does not really mention about your personal growth or extracurrlcular and stuff. I am just curious about why you have included those in your personal statement. Did you link those topics to "Why Waseda" or "Why this major" questions? 3)How many approximate words did you have in your personal statement essay? 4)Did you include any alumni, professors or theur research in your essay? Again, I am not sure if you could answer all these questions of mine, and it is perfectly fine for me if you don't know. It was still beneficial from the videos, and I really want to be at Waseda University if possible. Thank you so much for the videos and possible answers to my questions.

hey i have question about applying to waseda 😅. so i also plan on going to waseda for the english based undergrad programme. to be honest, i dont know anything about the japanese language. is it needed to know any japanese before applying or will you learn it at waseda itself?

No, you are not required to know any Japanese before applying. You are going to learn it at Waseda itself. I don't know which program you are talking about, but if you are talking about the English based undergrad program for the school of social sciences, you will take a placement test for the Japanese language, and then you will have to take 20 credits of CJL (Japanese language courses) classes. The result of the test is divided into 8 different levels (1 being the lowest and 8 being the highest) and if you score 7 or 8, you can choose not to take the CJL classes. Yess u need to take japanese classes when ure in the engineering course! There are a lot of japanese classes that u can choose from that fits ur japanese level! They also have Japanese classes for pure beginners so u really dont have to be able to speak japanese fluently in waseda :))

Okay I don't have much knowledge on Waseda- but I heard that they have majors for manga and all that. I'm only in 9th grade, but I'm trying to do my research. Do you know if they actually have anything for that? I have gotten mixed results and I fear I can not trust Google T_T I apologize if I'm in the completely wrong place and or asking irrelevant questions.

I've also heard about that major somewhere on the internet but unfortunately, Waseda does not offer that particular program :(((

Yes, but you want to be able to speak Japanese. Waseda sports teams don't care about your nationality as long as you are good at it and speak Japanese. There is a guy from Canada that plays in the Waseda baseball team or a guy from the US that plays in the Waseda American football team.
