Can we get the Roman, the Byzantines, the Ottomans, the Persians, and the HRE in 2020?
As a Mexican historian, I can say that the Aztec empire is bigger than in the past, not only for the Mayans, but because of their control of regions that were the property of the Tarascan, the Tlaxcaltecan or the Arahuacan (a culture that controled actual Cuba). But let´s be honest, the Aztec empire was the most glorious one, so I can live with this

"Aztecs"(Mexica) aren't really ancient, should have been Teotihuacan who controlled all of that Also no they didn't play with heads lmao, they were rubber balls and it was more of a maya thing
@MajoraZ4 жыл бұрын
Even in an archeological context "Ancient Mexico" is often used to refer to all of Prehispanic America, even the states in the Latepostclassic like the Aztec Empire (and on that note, Aztec does not nessscarily mean Mexica, it can also mean rthe broader Nahua culture/civilization, the Mexica nahua subgroup in Tenochtitlan speffically, or the "Aztec Empire", which is an alliance between the cities of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan, plus all their subject tributaries/vassals; some of which were not Nahua and some Nahuas were not inside the empire), Tlaxcala, the Purepecha Empire, etc. Teotihuacan is also after 0AD for the most part, only really growing from a moderately sized town into the massive metropolis (seriously, Teotihuacan got BIGGER THEN ROME in physical area, with most of it still being a dense planned urban grid of stone structures) around 100-200 AD and having it's apex around 500AD. Teotihuacan absolutely deserves more cred and attention though As I said, it ended up covering an absolutely enormous amount of space, 37 square kilometers, and 22 of those was all a dense grid of stone palaces, temples, residential complexes (notably all of which were large and well furnished, with dozens of rooms, courtyards, rich painted frescos, etc: Virtually the entire 150,000 sized population was living in what was the equivalent of roman villas), had a running water ins some of it;s buildings with toilets and a large plumbing/drainage network which connected with resvoirs, agricultural canals, etc (large interconnected water mangement systems are a pretty common trait of large Mesoamerican cities), with one of it's Plazas's being able to be flooded like the Roman Colosseum. That being said, while it did have an impressive amount of political reach, conquering Maya city-states around 1000 kilometers away, and cultural influence, establishing archtectural, artistic, and religious norms across the region; it's really hard to say how much area it actually had political control over, due to the lack of written records surviving from the city (unlike Maya cities, there's only a few stellas with writing intact). And even the Aztec Empire didn't directly govern all of the cities and towns it conquered, direct imperial style control is pretty rare in Mesoamerica due to the logistical hurdles no draft animals causes for long distance power projection.

@@youtubecensorpolice9112 nop, it was the winner or so it's thought, we have no idea how it went

@@Chactemal We actually don't know for sure if ANYbody was sacrificed with the ball games: Most of the evidence from it is simply iconographic depictions of decapitations in murals and the like at Ball Courts, which could be a purely symbolic art motif, with the ball game being associated with myths involving mythical decpitations of gods/demi gods in various Mesoamerican civilizations. We haven't found any actual sacricial burials we can say for sure come from a ballcourt sacrifice. Even if they did happen, it probably wasn;t a player who got sacrificed, considering that there was a considerable socio-political and economic interest in keeping playuers alive: Nobles would sponsor teams and teams would also represent specific cities or even schools like modern NFL and varisity leagues, and being a ball player was a professional occupation with pay, and they couldn't marry due to them needing to be training constantly. It doesn't make much sense that they'd be sacrificed coinstantly for winning or losing given the work that went into them.
