What If Arthur Morgan Didn't Get TB? (Red Dead Redemption 2)

I think Arthur would still redeem himself without TB. Considering the gang's previous ideals and Arthur’s disdain to the more “dirty” criminal work I think he would redeem himself. It would just take longer. Logically, Arthur wouldn't move to Blackwater and would have convinced John they need to move far away from the Pinkertons. RDR1 just won't happen. He might not help the Native Americans on the spot but it would just take more convincing since everything still crashes around him. With TB or without it, it was only a matter of time before Arthur would stand against Dutch. It's a matter of when.

While i havent played rdr2, i think what would happen would be this: Hosea holds dutch back, so when the bank heist goes wrong, dutch goes insane. When he does, the game goes the same way but micah dies instead of arthur. Then john and arthur live on the ranch and ross doesnt track them down.

Good theory, but I think the ending of the gang would not have been so «dramatic» as it was, as well as a few less deaths

It does suck, but if Arthur didn’t die of TB, John would’ve had to kill him in the first game. I don’t like it either, but I guess the creators wanted to teach us that death is just a part of life, even in the world of Red Dead Redemption.

If Arthur had lived, I'm not entirely sure John would have gone after Micah since I big reason John/Charles/Sadie went after Micah was to avenge Arthur. Plus, considering Arthur is the one member of the gang (except maybe Hosea) who was most against chasing after their enemies like Cornwall and Colm ("Revenge is a fools game") if he was alive and met up with the trio, he'd have likely agreed with Abigail to leave Micah alone and focus on the homestead. With John not going after Micah, that significantly reduces the attention he gets from the Bureau and potentially means that Abigail and Jack don't get captured in the first place.

No, if Arthur didn't die of TB, Ross and Fordham would want to use either Arthur individually to chase after his former crew or both Arthur and John to do so. Arthur would be more useful than John because it's known he's one of the most skilled gunmen in the Van Der Linde gang.

Very well put together! I’d really be interested in you diving deeper into this and providing us with the alternate universe timeline of events between both games. Would Arthur make it to RDR1 if he wasn’t sick or would he be killed before the game takes place? Fun ideas to consider

If Arthur didn't get tb he would've had Dutch's ear a bit more than Micah. I feel like Cornwall would've been dealt with but instead of making the Indians and the us army fight each other they would've been way more discreet as to how they were going to leave instead of blowing up a train track and robbing yhe army's train. Now assuming Dutch still goes crazy and the rest of the game happens as is both John and Arthur would probably settle in Beechers hope and the pinkertons debatedly wouldn't know about them.

Considering high honor is the canon ending .... if arthur never got TB 1) he would have killed agent milton 2) he would have killed micha bell 3) he would have never have seen Dutch for who he is and the native American that saved him in one of the final missions 4 ) most importantly Arthur wouldn't change or really get any redemption 5 ) he would eventually either be tracked down by the law or john marston in rdr 1 .

Don't assume Sean's loyalty instantly. It might be more difficult originally. He is quick to defend Dutch about Blackwater. Lenny, Kieran, and Hosea would be team Arthur but Sean might need pushing from Karen who would imo definitely side with Arthur.

This line always struck me: "It's time folks stopped giving Dutch a hard time about all that Blackwater business if you ask me. The man's not a fortune teller. You can plan, you can use your head. Nothing would have changed much, as in reality Arthur got TB from Hosea not Downes. TB doesn't get transmitted from blood or single contact. Look at the behavior of Hosea in camp (chapters 2 and 3), and compare to Arthur's in 4 and 5. They're very similar in progression. Also on the Dutch front, he was a master manipulator. And his going crazy was a result of Hosea dying (which would have happened anyways as he's believed to have also had TB). Just might have been a slightly different path (and timing) to getting to the same end result. Dutch was always the one driving the gang, just that Micah was helping it move faster in that direction.

I think Arthur would kill Ross before Ross killed him. Arthur has showed many times that he’s smarter than John, therefore I believe he would see it coming
