Sorry for the lengthy message if ya see it Swanky, the first 2 blocks are related to this, the last one is just my own "what if" so it is kinda long due to some explaining and supporting evidence and situations. I don't know, I think Bongo Bongo and Gohma would likely attack eachother. Reason why is that Gohma seems insanely defensive of her territory and Bongo Bongo seems to be a pretty violent and unpredictable spirit. And if they feed off the dark energy that is seething there I would think they would sooner take it for themselves rather than share it with eachother. Bongo Bongo would likely kill or force Gohma to flee from her boss room, perhaps causing her fight to be in the pass code room right before the boss, perhaps having 5-7 instead of 10 hp to show that she is wounded. The fight in the boss room would probably be similar but its questionable whether a dying deku tree given boost would match a direct ganondorf boost, likely having 20 hp instead of 30. But if we assume ganondorf went off script and gave him the buff to escape rather than him making it out by any other means than he might actually be stronger having gohma's hp roughly added giving him 40 hp. The boss room either way would likely be changed by Bongo Bongo to accommodate his size (clearing out that much would likely have the deku tree die right after you get in him) and manifest a drum in the center to make it more like his fight. That's just my take on it, but that would be interesting if they got along actually. But as for why he choose the shadow temple, perhaps it has a build-up of dark energy he could feed off- even if you sealed him there it would be pointless as he could just break the seal with the power stored in there. Or the grave of the composer bros. are directly outside the temple, Bongo Bongo having an affiliation with music perhaps being related to them in some way- or its just a coincidence. I mean Navi describes him as mysterious so maybe he has an alternate motive that needs him to be in the shadow temple. Anyways, nice video and an interesting topic! How about a what if Gohma when to the forest temple if you decide to do this again? Boring stuff for my "what if" bellow line. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My thoughts on it: If that would grant a power boost over the 7-8 years it takes link to get there perhaps making her an insanely powerful version of herself, but chances are her and the local undead wouldn't get along. She would likely have to deal with Stalfos, 1 being fine but much more would likely be a threat to her. Assuming she lived in there and fed off the energy for so long I could imagine she would be pretty powerful, instead we fight shadow ganondorf in the deku tree as ganondorf is trying to kill the tree and if Gohma ran off someone has to kill it- him using just horseback and likely wouldn't be as strong, as ganondorf doesn't have the triforces power boost yet. I honestly couldn't imagine his presence in the tree changing too much enemy-wise aside from adding a few undead and maybe 1 stalfos mini boss fight. Shadow ganondorf would likely just be sucking out his power along with killing the roots to further harm great deku tree, his fight starting off like if a stalfos was on a horse riding around the arena and then doing an easier version of the light ball tennis match. Ghoma probably killing alot of undead in the forest temple would likely fill it with more plantlife and insect life, perhaps even laying gohma eggs everywhere and having a mini-boss fight with 2 slightly buffed Gohma near the end. The OG gohma being bigger and and perhaps would even get new moves like tail attacks like a scorpion or doing a 360 spin. Could be easily wrong though.

Late to the party with this comment, but I like the idea of Bongo Bongo having some relation to the Composer Bros. They wrote the Sun Song, maybe they intended for it to be harmful to Bongo Bongo (a being of darkness)? Maybe they wrote the execution-style rhythm Bongo Bongo plays at the start of his battle? Maybe Bongo Bongo fled to the Shadow Temple in an effort to reunite with his brothers? Lot of fun potential for lore-building there.

I always liked the symbolism behind the well in Kakariko village, The idea that a place so inconspicuous could harbor such an ominous presence, lurking just out of sight. This is a cool concept, but I feel like you didn’t take it far enough... What if instead of having kid Link fight Bongo Bongo at the start of the game, Adult link must venture back inside the Deku Tree, beneath the now-rotten floor of Gohma’s lair, and down into the Deku Tree’s root system to get revenge against Bongo Bongo?

This would explain so many things. If the curse Gannon put on the Great Deku Tree was actually Bongo Bongo, this would explain why he’d still die after you defeated Gohma. It wasn’t explained very well where the Deku Tree was keeping the Emerald, but it could be that she stole it from him after being drawn to Bongo bongo’s evil energy beneath him and she was trying to dig down into his root system to find the source. The Deku Tree might have wanted Link to defeat Gohma in order to get the emerald back, but to also to stop her from successfully freeing Bongo Bongo, lest his evil spread deeper into the forest. In adult Link’s time the forest is completely overrun by monsters, since the Great Deku Tree’s rotting husk isn’t able to contain his evil now. Only after defeating him would the area be cleansed of darkness and the Deku Tree sprout be able to emerge, it would also make the scene where Link learns the truth about his origins a lot more meaningful, since he’d finally no longer be living in the dark so-to-speak.

As for the magic, I'm sure you can get it from either of the first 2 fairies, one gives you Din's fire (which needs magic) and the other gives you a magic charged spin attack (which again needs magic).

I know it's an old comment, but you don't need the lens of truth to fight Bongo Bongo, its hand still visible and when it charges at you, you can try your luck and use slingshot to shoot or wait it come closer with spin attack ready. (of course you won't have the blue/orange energy coming from your spin attack without magic) When you hit its eye, Bongo Bongo will become visible while it's stunned

Spoilers That would prove that the theory that the sages die to become sages, saria dies from probably being a pacifist in the wrong place and wrong time, darunia probably got eaten by the dragon, ruto, haven’t finished the water temple yet but I assume it’s death by Zelda equivalent of chaos, impa got outplayed, but I think she knew she had to be a sage, or she just wanted to save the people of kakariko, impa didn’t have a selfish reason and if she did, she would be to smart to fall for the trap, or maybe she just looks smart but she actually got As and Bs in ninja school, either one, and nabooru died when link defeated her as iron knuckle Finally rauru, he’s old, but he still stalks you as the owl

So, I've wondered off and on what would happen if someone started off at the end of the shadow temple and tried to escape it. Maybe without Bongo Bongo being there, the introduction of the shadow temple is Ganandorf becoming fedup with Link's meddling, and throwing adult Link in as imprisonment. I don't know. The idea of escaping the shadow temple has fascinated me for some time. This video reminded me of that fascination.

At that point may as well stick Phantom Ganon and Twinrova together as well, makes enough sense that they'd be together as it would give Ganondorf a more direct link to two of his stronger generals. Hell, at that point I'd be mixing the dungeons together into 4 mega dungeons rather than the 8 normal ones, would be a neat basis for a romhack as well. Using Jabu Jabu in order to traverse an even bigger Water Temple, clearing out problems inside of him and out to progress in the style of Bowser's Inside Story? Dodongo's Cavern could be the initial entryway to the Fire Temple, forcing you to do one part early and return later. The Forest and Spirit Temples mix could be a hell of tricks, traps, teleporters and puzzles alike. Hell, with the Deku Tree I'd be more inclined to have Bongo Bongo influence more than the boss room and say the Shadow Temple is a thing of its creation, have it twist the Deku Tree into a horrific manifestation of itself to include more of the Shadow Temple's elements. There's so much you could do with this sort of thing that could really spice up OoT.

i always thought that it was part of Ganon’s malice escaping the well, and that’s why bongo bongo and all the enemies are in the sealed temple. The malice spread to where the most pain was - the graveyard - and reanimated the creatures to join Ganon’s team.

This is an awesome idea SwankyBox! As a former OoT Modder it always touches my heart to see people think outside of the box like this. It seemed you use some modding tools yourself to create the scenario. I think this is a wonderful idea, but I would love to see you take it a step further. After all, every action has a reaction. What small incident do you think could have the largest change, but still plausible to mod version of OoT?

I think the death theme'd boss hiding in the corpse of your guardian tree is more poetic and makes for a marginally more interesting story, doing so in the beginning of the game certainly spikes the difficulty quite a bit, but if as an adult, you had to return to the deku tree who has been long dead by this time and probably a bit different inside as a result would make minor parts of the game way more memorable. The shadow temple, which was always woefully out of place in my mind behind this tiny local graveyard, could be removed entirely as bits are replaced instead in the lower sections of the deku tree. Also js, Ghoma's lair is way more ambient for a horror theme than Bongo Bongo's old room, and imagining the room after 7 years of rot with the addition of the hate drum would be intense. 10/10 idea. Now just imagine Necro-Ghoma is the mini-boss as she became part of dead hand!

So what would take refuge in the Shadow Temple? I think it would be fair for Bongo Bongo to retreat from the Great Deku tree, Young Link's chances of killing them without any magic nor the Master Sword means defiantly, Bongo Bongo could probably survive the encounter with Young Link, as a mere dagger probably wouldn't hurt. After it flees, it sets to the Shadow Temple to recover from its injuries. If it isnt harmed tok much, it probably proceeds to follow Ganondorf out of curiosity, and might even fight you during the King Dodongo fight, or maybe it watches Link for a moment before flying off. When Link enters the dungeon, he immediantly notices there are several monsters sparring down below, Stalfos and Lizalfos fighting in other rooms, as Dodongos attempt to eat the Redeads, crawling hands and wall masters. Bongo Bongo wouldnt be involved with King Jabajabu because it's likely not relevant to Ganondorf. Not sure what Bongo Bongo would do, unless it retreats to Shadow Temple to continue doing whatever it was doing there.

I feel like instead of fighting Bongo Bongo and Gohma at the same time, we could see a scene where Gohma comes down as usual but is then crushed by one of Bongo Bongo's hands. It would be kind of funny, but also present Bongo Bongo as a greater foe than a spider that can be beaten in under 20 seconds. When one monster is attracted to someone or something that gives off some attractive energy, I would usually presume that it goes to the source to either consume it or defeat it as a show of power. If you do another one of these what-if videos, how about introducing something with Volvagia in the second dungeon. If you've read the manga, Volvagia would have been a baby dragon when Link was a child. There could be new elements to the dungeon where you use baby Volvagia to solve puzzles in the mines. He could work similarly to the Beetle in Skyward Sword, though his usage may be limited due to the game's engine. I'm not entirely sure on that one. He may run off when you get near the boss room and you'd then see him cornered by King Dodongo, who then notices you and begins the fight. He could be used outside of the dungeon until you timeskip, where Ganondorf will turn him into the normal Fire Temple boss. I just thought that might be an interesting concept to think about C:

Interesting concept! I always wondered if something like this is what happens to the Kokiri forest while Link is locked away in the Sacred Realm. I considered the Gohma curse as Ganondorf’s test. He sent something stealthy because he knew there was a great power in the forest, but not where it was. I don’t imagine Bongo bingo could have reached the forest so quickly... but that’s because I imagine the story takes longer than it feels like to play.

I mean, seeing as how the reason Bongo is in the shadow Temple in the first place is because he was tortured & executed there in the past, so idk why he'd flee to kokiri Forest, especially because both death mountain and Zora's domain are much closer to kakariko. But as a theory it's pretty cool.

Man, someone should make this into a rom hack, putting enemies and hazards from one dungeon into another, but with all of the dungeons. Also, the bosses that should be later are easier, while the bosses that should be earlier are harder. If I could actually rom hack, then I would call it “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Paradox Quest”.

I think this is a really cool idea from a lore perspective, but as far as gameplay is concerned, it makes the beginning of the game way more awesome than it is originally, and thus makes everything else fall flat. There’s no natural sense of preogression if everything else proceeds as normal. The only way I could see this working from a gameplay perspective would be if there were other “what if” scenarios that did similarly awesome things to other parts of the game. I would actually love to see all these “what if’s” combined together in a ROM/hack, I think it would be pretty cool. Anyways Swanky, great video, keep up the good work
