Truly beautiful playing and voices. This type of musical fun is a big influence and inspiration for me. Hope I'll be able to play as great as John one day. His left hand is doing amazing walking bass lines.

This is in my humble opinion one of the best videos you have ever done. The two of you together is other wordly. I also hear a bit of Kenny Rankin in John's voice.

I’m six minutes in, and I have to stop and save this video for later. Gotta watch on a big screen with good speakers when I can really clear my mind and dig in. This is too good and too packed with information to watch on my phone. After that I’m sure I’ll want to study the longer version on Nebula, too.

Thanks so much for that, Aimee! Of course, we are all accustomed to being knocked out by you, and John has such a smooth, rich, mellow voice...absolutely perfect for Chet Baker. (An under appreciated film I love that has quite a bit of music, and particularly some attention to Charlie Parker and Chet Baker, is The Talented Mr. Ripley. Not a musical, though, don't want to mislead anyone, but it very effectively uses quite a bit of music, which works with the story, not just background movie music. We hear Chet singing Valentine from an LP and later Matt Damon courageously sings it; does a great job with it.)

Some couple of months ago I was talking with a friend (a singer friend) of mine about how hard it is to play bass while singing. This guy takes that thought to another level, because, I mean it is easier to play and sing when you have an instrument that gives you clues in between the harmony but... how can you even accomplish that when you are doing substitutions?! -besides his incredible basslines. Beautiful video, I loved the chemistry of both of you. I hope to see more things related to Chet Baker because you seem to dig him pretty well. Good vibes and love.

What a great way to start the week. I learned "I Fall in Love to Easily" from Chet Baker (his is the first version I ever heard). That and 'Everything Happens to Me" I heard "EHtM"on a Charlie Haden release named "Always Say Goodbye" in which Charlie Haden presented other artists' performances. It's the last tune. Great melody. Great lyrics. Great album. He and Bill Evans played together a little. This was so nice, that I watched it twice, but the second time on Nebula with the extended version.

Chet Baker didn't start singing because he lost his teeth. He was singing from the early days. Tons of transcriptions of his old vocals in the trumpet sheet music section. Chet Baker didn't practice. Jack Sheldon tells the story in the movie "Let's Get Lost" Jack would tell him, lets go practice. Chet would ask why? He was a natural. He heard everything he played and sang and he had more than sufficient technique to execute it. They'd try to fool him at Jam Sessions and play tunes like rhythm changes in F#. He could do it. You couldn't mess with Chetty. No Berkley, No play along records-just God given talent. Here is one of Chetty transcriptions of his vocals on "My Old Flame" kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIq8onV5mLZ_mMk The transcription is on the album cover they made for the album. Flow!! With all the butter notes. He could hear all the butter notes with a delicious double time lilt!! High calorie jazz. He's been imitated but never duplicated.
