+King Rich Tv is it him though? I watched their 1991 performance in Moscow (the video of it I should note, I was not alive in 1991 unfortunately) and it sounds different from Jason. Maybe he was just quieter compared to the music around him, but I can kind of tell the difference in the voices after listening to this one and the real Jason back to back. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wanted to see. They sound very similar but something seem a little off about these Jason vocals so it wouldn't surprise me if it's just a very good impression.

My two cents: Your version opens with a measure of China cymbals. This is followed by a busy hi-hat (0:04) and... bass?! This is obviously uncharacteristic of the band at this stage, but your tone and playing are excellent. No complaints from me. I also love how you have several measures of power chords, and several measures of harmonized chords. However, because this is in the style of Justice the difference between them is much more pronounced. They have a very raw quality here, as well, and almost sound stretched as if by pedal effects. I love the pause you've included before the main riff, which you've modified to include variations that sound like Blackened (0:25; always a good thing). The guitar on the left establishes the riff; the crescendo is foreshadowed by a steady cymbal pattern that jumps into double-time before the second guitar, panned to the right, joins in (I love that one-two from the snare at 0:31-very punchy). Then things kick off in a fairly ironic way: We have the guitars, the drums and the bass, all playing audibly together, and it sounds great. Not something that would be heard on the original album, but if you stick to the live sound or the legion of remasters determined to reinsert the bass into the album, it works. And this sounds positively *heavy* as a result (seriously, that chug at 0:41 is to die for-not to mention the nice bit of variation with the palm muting). When James' voice joins in, it still sounds a fair bit like his Ride the Lightning vocals. Blown up instead of tight and dry, it doesn't quite mesh with the instruments, here. It's not enough to distract as the song goes on, but I did notice it at first. I love how Lars sounds incapable of playing a steady pattern here (i.e., 0:56-1:05). There's all kinds of nifty stutters and stops that he wouldn't have bothered with, back in 1984. It sounds like you've taken a couple notes out of the chorus riff, extending some of what remains and stressing things slightly differently (1:22). Also, the dominant(?) chord is a nice touch (1:29). This and the snare sounds more prevalent during the verse, and the kick gets more love during the chorus. You've clearly put a lot of work into this and I appreciate all the little things you've included. I'm also really in love with Lars' kit; it sounds pretty much perfect, I think (i.e., 1:47-2:03). It really makes me want to air drum-a sign you've done your job well. This being said, 2:11 almost sounds like a mistake. During solo before the bridge, I love that held chord-how it almost harmonizes with Kirk when he starts the solo (2:34). The solo itself sounds fine, but I will confess it's a tad quiet and hard to hear against the rhythm tracks. Still, there's some really cool stuff going on in here. The tapping pattern at 2:49-2:53 sounds proper weird, for example, but I like it; it has kind of an experimental sound to it, while "Kirk's" guitar is pretty raw and intense. It's an interesting combination for sure-if only the solo were a bit louder! After it ends, you've taken the final phrase and stretched it into a harmonized refrain, which is very typical of Justice. I do wish the higher notes manifested immediately. Instead, it takes eight bars before things harmonize properly and I feel like it could have simply started off that way (a la Blackened: "See your mother die..."). Once things begin in earnest though, it sounds absolutely great! There's a nice crescendo before you return to the original, pre-ostinato phrase (a good cluster of notes at 3:34). This part sounds fucking awesome with double bass. There's no rhythm to get in the way and the legato variations and whammy bar are all welcome touches. The ostinato itself feels a little busier, with a faster tom roll (and some nifty-but-small rhythm changes at 4:03 / 4:10). I like the transition into "live James," but his voice does inevitably sound older (again, a minor quibble more than anything). Your bass tone is great and I love the rhythmic interplay between Jason and Lars. I see what you were going for with Jason's backup vocals (4:44). However, they're called back-up vocals for a reason, but yours are drowning out the lead singer! Other than that, they actually sound pretty great from an execution standpoint. You said you recorded them yourself? Nice job! That final growl (5:00) before the second solo is blood-curdling! The guitar fill at 5:07 is great, as are the brief time changes you introduce, starting at 5:16. I can really feel myself getting pulled around; less driving I think, but I appreciate the effort and enjoy the sensation! Apart from that, the snare roll at 5:33 sounds like it might have one too many notes. The interplay between the drums and the rhythm before the outro is neat, as well (5:52-5:59). The stacking harmonies here have the same issue as those during the bridge; there's too many measures with a single voice, and here the guitars are a little quiet (including the brand-new voice you've added at 6:16). I would've dropped everything but the base power chords for Kirk to solo over (6:32 is nearly incomprehensible); there's just too much going on at the end. Lastly, considering how drum-heavy this version is, the lack of a balls-to-the-wall outro from Lars feels missed. Great work, Bryce! Please don't take any of these criticisms to heart; you've taken a lot of risks with this one, and it really pays off. Mainly the issues are volume (quiet solos), but the end section is a bit cluttered, I'll admit. A great outing from you, and look forward to more. Keep 'em coming! \m/
