What if Ash traveled with his rivals from the previous regions? Like, for example: Gary travelling with Ash in Hoenn and possibly Sinnoh, with Paul travelling with him through Unova, Tripp through Kalos, and Alain through Alola. Not really the best idea from a writing standpoint, but still something that could be very interesting if done right.

there is a big difference: may is a girl that didn''t have a purpose- hell she didn't even LIKE pokemon starting out! she figured that out while traveling with ash. if anything may is more similar to serena. DAWN though, is a girl that had her sights on her goal since day 1. she was going to become top coordinator, and even had a bit of preperation beforehand, whith her mom being a retired coordinator and all. but it dodn't go as well as she thought. she overcame that though woth ash's help

TheBraveGallade I hate it when people say she's a copy of May. All they're looking at is the fact that they're both pokemon coordinators which, I'll be honest, when the concept was introduced, it was not that interesting. Seeing pokemon combine many of their moves into different attacks and patterns to take down their opponents; I liked seeing that and I wanted to see more of that, in Ash's BATTLES, *NOT* the contests. I felt they were too much of a distraction from what was supposed to be the focus of the series, Ash. With Dawn however, Both she and Ash would learn and benefit from each other's tactics, thus growing into better trainers, so the contests didn't come off as intrusive. It's also important to note that she went through a lot of the same events that Ash experienced on his journey, so if anything Dawn is more similar to Ash than May. And it's possible that she could come back. Brock and Misty came back twice (though the first time Brock returned, he stayed for a long while and left along with Dawn) so the same can be said for Dawn and Ash's other travel companions . . . . . except Iris.

I like this theory actually, even though I never did much with contests in the games. I do kinda feel like Dawn would do that sort of thing though. It's interesting you bring up Dawn and Buneary though cause I have an action figure of her that came with a Buneary. I also have a Buneary in Ultra Moon, so hopefully I can use it as a Mega Lopunny in the future. Merciless Freak While I do agree that her design sexualizes her a bit, I must highly disagree that she’s a copy and paste of May. While their goals are slightly similar and their development is similar, their stories, backgrounds and motives couldn’t be more different. May didn’t even like Pokémon when she started her journey and found contests and THEN decided that that was what she wanted to do with herself. Dawn wanted to her like her mom and was trying to live up to her. Dawn had a lot of spunk and fire and attitude and loved having so much fun with contests. They’re very similar yet so different.

I'm Serperior I know I find it stupid that people hate her just for her catchphrase when there is more to her character than that, yeah she is flawed but that’s what makes her realistic like most 10 year old are and yeah being a champion would redeem her but also if she became a fully fledged dragon master and being able to calm down a wild dragon type would be awesome and hopefully people will like her more became of that :)
