What If Dosu Survived The Chunin Exams?

Dosu Kinuta's death happen early because of Gaara. But what if Dosu survived the Chunin Exams? In this video will be rewriting Dosu into Naruto Part 1. Dosu vs Rock Lee, Dosu vs InoChikaCho, and Dosu vs Choji were great fights. Dosu had a great design and interesting personality. But Dosu vs Gaara was an anticlimactic fight to hype up Gaara's strength as he is the fight antagonist of the Chunin Exams.
Dosu's sound jutsu was creative and interesting, Dosu even said he would no longer obey Orochimaru but nothing was done with it in the story. So in this video we will be modifying the Naruto story to include Dosu back in trying to find a way that will make the character interesting in the narrative of the Naruto story will a good character arc.

I would've loved for Dosu to defect from Orochimaru. He wouldn't necessarily have to be a full on gold guy but I would've loved Dosu to get more screen time as an Anti hero. The sound ninjas were so interesting to me.

Thanks for highlighting my fav character in naruto love the idea of him turning face/antihero I’d have him injured/ loose an arm vs gaara duck out of finals due to injury, then that could’ve opened up his story for later Somehow get some more world building with him sabotaging some of orochimaru’s labs bringing hidden sound to more stability as an anti hero maybe somehow being involved with jugo Karin or water boy Also would’ve loved to see the face reveal you know orochimaru had something to do with his face being hidden (was it partial transformation disfigurement from a curse mark or an implanted eye or a bad injury) he knew about the curse mark such a shame this character was killed off

Well, maybe have Dosu teaming up with Kiba against Sakkon, as it was a 2 v 1 fight against Kiba, this would even the odds making it more manageable than Akamaru being Kiba's only back up. It might be interesting how Dosu might use the loud noises caused by Kiba's wild attacks against the enemy. Then give Sakkon and his brother annother ability that would kill them both, while Kiba was saved by Kankuro, maybe Dosu wasn't so lucky or he sent Kankuro Kiba's way sacrificing himself for the mission.

I would definitely like to see how Dosu would act in Shippuden. A really good idea for a power up for dosu would be sound clones. When they get destroyed they emit a high decibal sound, disrupting the bodies and ear drums of those near by. He might even be able to direct those sounds as well. A mid or long range sound bullet would also be nice to add to his arsenal as well to round him off. Story wise dosu could fill out team 7's roster, especially in the tenchi bridge arc.

I like all of those! Another one would be armor of sound/compressed air, kinda like Gaaras sans armor. This would help negate one of Dosu’s weaknesses, his low durability.

Dosu and Shino instantly became my favorites while watching the exam arc as a kid. Coincidently both had so much potential and were totally wasted. Really liked his appereance and his sound powers.

Exactly the same thing for me man. Dosu's death was one of the reasons I stopped wanting to continue the series. Build up this cool and unique character, and give him hints of some cool character development then kill him to show how powerful Gaara was, something that had been well-established through the whole arc anyway. Then years after I stopped watching, I read up on what happened to Shino (also my 2nd favorite character), and was so disappointed I was glad I dropped the show.

Boruto version of Shino is so dumb. If Shikamaru becomes Naruto's adviser, Shino should've been Naruto's personal ANBU Captain (the white mask ANBU)...he's already dressed in a similar light colored collar coat while demonstrating elite stealth, strong IQ, elite tracking skills, and strong taijutsu+ninjutsu while also having millions of bugs as his spies. Hopefully in 10-15 years, Kishi treats Boruto like GT and does his own "Part III", we can see something like that.

It's kind of weird how Dosu is the only character to manipulate sound waves the way he did. It's not a genjutsu, but he literally messes with the physical makeup of our hearing system. It's such a dangerous technique that can't be blocked, can catch opponents off guard if they don't have info about it, and it can't be dispelled like a genjutsu. He's clearly smart too, knowing about the human body and how sound can disrupt a body's processes not just from hearing.

_Soundcutter_ would be a straightforward upgrade for Dosu. He could already apply his sound to the water molecules of the whole body; why not concentrate that amount of force in a single line, providing immense cutting power? This would provide the Sakon brothers an excuse to do their split limb generation thing.

What's silly about his death is that it's so out of character. We've seen he's not a prideful guy as he admitted inferiority and fled against Sasuke. Then why would he be so cocky as to challenge Gaara after he saw his fight with Lee? Makes 0 sense, just one of those Kishimoto things.

Honestly the sound ninja were the Boruto tech done right by having physical modifications into their bodies or raising their skills directly into them like dosu and his strong hearing Dosu easily could have been a ninja that could have popped up anywhere. If he survived I would have loved to see dosu return to fight temari Basically shino gets konkuro while temari gets held up by dosu and dosu being angry Sasuke is definitely ahead of him we could see him be more mad at Gaara and say "take each other out" while he handles a tired temari. After that like Karin he could be a leaf village prisoner but help out eventually.

The proposed hypothetical that most people use for Dosu if he survived is that he would betray Orochimaru during the invasion because well... he openly states he doesn't want to be Orochi's pawn. I highly doubt Dosu would just go along with Orochi's plan, which means he would likely not be an ally of the sand and would actually be their enemy.

I think Dosu legitimately wanted to fight Sasuke even after finding out his assassination orders were bogus. Was it to kill him to spite Orochimaru? Possible but unlikely. If he did, he could even claim to still be loyal since they were told to infiltrate the chunin exams to kill him. Maybe he just wanted to show that as a ninja he could beat someone using the curse mark?

He wanted to kill Sasuke to deprive Orochimaru of his pawn. It makes sense when you think about it. Dosu knows that Sasuke is a valuable target for Orochimaru given that he immediately recognized the Curse Mark. If Dosu kills Sasuke, he puts a major dent in whatever plans Orochimaru had that involved Sasuke. So it's less out of vengeance and more out of precision. Dosu can't take out Orochimaru, but he can deprive Orochimaru of what he wants the most.

Why not have Dosu team up with Kiba to take on Sakon? Dosi could leave thinking that without Ukon, Kiba could win. Only to feel that something was off and go back. Coming in clutch for Kiba but their teamwork still being trash. Dose could talk bad about Akamaru the whole time. But seeing Kiba going in to save an injured Akamaru, Dosu goes in for a block. Dosu could feel something really was off about Sakon as Sakon challenges his loyalty. Before Dosu gets to activate his new jutsu, Dosu suddenly gets a major slash into his shoulder. Kiba takes that opening to split Sakon. We get internal dialogue from Dosu about him realizing that Sakon wasn't the one that stabbed him. We see Sakon and Ukon forming as Dosu tells Kiba that they can't hold up to their teamwork. With the ending being Kiba finally trusting Dosu to take out Sakon/Ukon by attacking him full power when they take over his body and Akamaru is too worn out to assist. Believing Dosu would, they leave Kiba's body last minute as Dosu fakes the attack and hits them but is too beat up to finish the job. As Dosu and Kiba accept their fate and apologize for not trusting each other, Konkuro comes in with the iron maiden right off the rip. Making fun of them as he gloats about how easy it was for him.

An interesting parallel that Dosu could have with Naruto would be that the sound ninja wants to become the leader of his own village. Maybe he doesn't want to be the Kage for the same reasons as Naruto, but perhaps he slightly goes into the details of what Orochimaru put him, Zaku, and Kin through, and he realizes that there are kids still going through that, especially after he sees the Sound 5 during the retrieval arc. Would be interesting to see a scene between him and Gara during or right before Shippuden where Dosu asks him about what it was like and what it took to get there. Another twist is that instead of Sai being added to team 7, we could get Dosu. Especially if you go with the whole "he's trying to save people who are working for Orochimaru" angle. Once again another parallel with Naruto, as he's trying to save Sasuke, just not for the same exact reasons. Could even have some internal dialogue with Dosu remembering how he failed to save Sakon, and going all out to capture Sasuke, only to fail again. Perhaps this leads to him seeking out another instructor, such as maybe Jiraiya? The frogs do use sound-based attacks (at least ma and pa) it's possible Naruto would wanna help him out. Besides, how best to beat a Sanin, than to learn from another Sanin? Ofcourse that's kinda fanficy but it's an interesting idea. Would absolutely love to help write a whole series on this!

One problem with Dosu being in the retrieval arc is that the retrieval team would actually have intel on their opponents. Nearly every instance the sound 4 gained the upper hand was due to the retrieval team being unaware of their abilities.

This was more interesting than I expected. I admit, having Dosu setting a precedent as a deserter for noble reasons holds a lot of weight when you know Sasuke's character is going to go rogue. Because we've already seen charcters like Mizuki trying to desert for greed/ power, then we'd have a better understanding and a vehicle to explore how these type of situations look and develop in the ninja world. Yeah, make a part 2 if you can? I have no idea what you could do with him in Shippuden because Orochimaru's importance goes way down during Part 1, but maybe Dosu's inclusion could tweak that as an Orochimaru victim he could connect to any of the other many victims, maybe Suigestsu who was also a village deserter (as far as I know), a literal lab rat and developed some connection to Sasuke. Plus, I wonder what power amp Kishimoto would've given him or what his time skip look would be.

The only change I’ll make is how the fight between Gara and Dosu went. Dosu, Using his sound control to vibrate the sand making it impossible for Gara to land sand attacks from a distance while Dosu himself can’t get within close range to make his own attacks. Dosu drops his guard and bates the sand coffin acting as though he’s been caught and may die, Gara comes in close to call him weak to his face but then Dosu says “you fool” suddenly uses all his power to vibrate the sand coffin apart as he drops to ground on one knee then looks up at Gara and blasts Gara with all he has sending him flying across the roof. When the dust settles Garas sand shield cracking apart off his face grows tired of the fight then turns into his sand monster form crushing Dosu. This now shows how intelligent and dangerous Dosu was while showing some holes in Garas character as a fighter and presenting the sand demon thing. This way Dosu at least went down as a warrior and almost potentially killed one of the big bads.

Don't take away Kiba's one decent fight man. You could have Dosu joining Choji for the Jirobo fight, which also has substance as Dosu and Choji are former enemies. Dosu could give information about Jirobo to Choji and maybe so a combo attack with Choji where Choji has to trust Dosu not to use it to hurt Choji as well with it.

I think I strongly favor the idea of a sound five over a replacement of Kiba, and thats only slightly biassed by me loving Kiba. I just think it would be better if Dosu can shine in his own setup fight, perhaps against someone Orochimaru would favor on the team specifically with a deserter in mind. Someone meant to one up him. I don't think killing him off is the right move because it still undercouts the sand siblings. Their resque would be incomplete. Thus, I would go for an uphill battle with an enemy meant for him, but that he can one up in the end. After that, it's okay if he looses his shine and fades more into the back, but just has his occasional appearance. Gets his five seconds of fame here and there. I think that for the same reason he's appealing as someone who breaks free that he would be satisfying as someone who makes it. If all the footage he gets in all of Shippuden is just in somewhere the background petting a cat then that alone would be a perfect end to his arc, a pay off.

Some things about Dosu replacing Kiba: Kiba was probably necessary for tracking Sasuke due to his sense of smell, right? I don't remember exactly the dialogue or tree hopping formation, but Kiba was probs the only sensory and tracking Ninja that could work since Shino probs didn't have a bug on Sasuke like with the Chunin exams, and Neji's range isn't long enough yet to find him. Plus Kiba was 1 of the last to fight since they probs had to keep retracking them after the first few fights. As for the fight, it would be interesting if Dosu was used to sound waves in his body, so he could vibrate himself to cause pain to Ukon if they infiltrated his body and just bluff that he was completely fine even tho he only had some resistance, whereas he could convince Ukon that only he was in danger. Idk exactly how their merge works with damage sharing, so maybe technically Ukon cells dying would also kill Dosu's cells, so nevermind if that's the case. But this could be an interesting counter and way to show Dosu's cleverness in battle and rational thinking.

I cant visiualize him in Shippuden but the only place i can see him is in the tenchi bridge, it would be cool to see him face to face vs Orochimaru and dying trying to do something against him. Dosu could rensent of Orochimaru for killing Zaku and Kin to reanimate the two Hokages. Zaku had a personality similar to Kimimaro, someone who loved Orichimaru. So Dosu could somehow be affected by it, seeing his teammate being killed by the one who was supposed to protect them. In the end, Dosu could become the Kage of the Sound.

Give Dosu vs Sakon more credit. Sakon and Ukon's primary jutsu is molecular rearrangement, fusing with each other and their environments. And Dosu's jutsu can specifically vibrate the water molecules inside of people. The fight would for sure play out 100% differently than with Kiba but I could see Dosu's molecular vibration working as an effective deterrent for Sakon or Ukon fusing with him. Or could possibly have the big sacrificial moment where he lets them fuse with him and then violently assaults his own body with the sound vibrations. It could work and be a well balanced matchup is my point.

Dosu could get a sound based power up that even has a cool name. Something like Dead Silence, which could use sound to cancel out all sound entirely before building up a frequency that shakes someone's body apart from the inside.

Honestly, I like Dosu so much that in a Boruto-era RP that I play I am playing as his niece whose ultimate goal is revenge against Gaara and Orochimaru (due to a limited, and incomplete, understanding of Dosu's death). In the RP, I have it so Dosu left behind a sister in the Hidden Sound as well as scrolls detailing various sound jutsu, both ones he knew and theoretical ones, as well as research into sound and theoretical uses of it (without accompanied jutsu), some of it he developed, others from notes he managed to steal.

I also make use of infrasound as high-level sound jutsu. Studies do show that infrasound, at the right frequency, can potentially cause damage to various organs. While irl it takes too long to be useful in a fight, you can simply say that mixing infrasound with chakra can cause these effects to manifest faster. With my RP character, we do this so that fights are like wars of attrition. If the fight goes on long enough, she will be able to start causing serious damage to the opponent(s), but it is the shorter fights that are more difficult.

This is a really interesting concept. I think seeing gaara kill off a named Jonin would be very intimidating and would make way for an entire redemption arc for Dosu. He could be the one that replaces Sasuke in Team 7 during shippuden.

Dosu was the brain of his team. Yet he chose to go after Gaara? This was a dumb move on his part. He saw what he could do in the preliminaries, so he should have known how strong Gaara is. But he still wanted to fight him, this doesn't make sense for him to do. If Dosu really wanted to stop being a pawn, he should have went to the hokage and told him everything about orochimaru and his plans, in exchange for refuge.

I definitely dont think he'd stay calm and collect under these circunstances, Orochimaru is impulsive, so if Dosu pulled it off most likely the sound leader would expose himself to everyone in a fit of rage trying to kill him Which would mean the Sand would immediately know they were tricked and thats not their Kazekage and the Hokage would know that is Orochimaru, ruining all his manipulation of the Sand Village and his element of surprise against Konoha Thus Orochimaru either escapes or gets killed then & there by the united forces of the two villages he put against each other, freeing Dosu and his team from his clutches, a brilliant plan

This was an awesome idea for a video topic. I definitely think that Dosu was a bit of a wasted character and would’ve replaced Kiba perfectly. As a member of the Sound Village, he would be familiar with the possible routes that the Sound Four would take to get Sasuke back to Orochimaru. Including him in the Sasuke Retrieval mission would also add an element of suspense. Shikamaru would trust him because Dosu would’ve been an ally once during the Konoha Crush Arc, and Choji would trust Shikamaru’s judgment but Neji and Naruto wouldn’t trust him at all and Naruto would definitely mouth off to Dosu when the team gathers at the village gate to depart from the village in pursuit of Sasuke. Then if Dosu dies during the mission, I could see Naruto making some comment about how he was wrong about Dosu something along the lines of what he said about Obito “being a cool guy”. Yes, the line was cheesy in canon, but I think it would’ve worked in this context.

Its regrettable but when you are a busy guy like Kishimoto, you have to move on with the main story and the heroes. When you are like Dosu, a minor character, then you are neglected and your whole purpose is to die.

I think you could kill two birds with one stone by letting Kiba and Dozu fight Sakon and Ukon. It would make sense if the team decided to let two Ninjas fight him since he is the leader of the sound four. You could kill Dozu off and let Kiba be saved. So there could be an emotional sacrifice and the heroic rescue of the sand siblings.

I think a good fight for Dosu in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc would've been Kimimaro. Kimi is obviously way stronger, but sound could bypass his defenses and quite literally *rattle his bones* - plus he was sick, so Dosu could buy enough time to help Naruto get closer to Sasuke and die just as Lee arrives. His last moments being with one of the people he wronged back in the Forest of Death could also make for a really heavy and effective scene.

To me Dosu was one of the more interesting characters in the Chunin exams, I thought he would be a character to watch but I was wrong. I think that for the Sasuke retrival arc instead of Naruto, Kiba, Lee, Choji, Neji, and Shikamaru it shouldve been Naruto, Lee, Neji, Shikamaru, Shino, and Dosu (arguably the most powerful of the Konoha 12 excluding Sasuke) I think Kibas battle shouldve gone to Shino and he ends up getting rescued by Kankuro, and Chojis fight should go to Dosu.

Not true when it comes to Dosu not having a Jutsu to split the Twins. He could have a Sound blade. He'd essentially vibrate his hand or area around it to the point where he can cut things. Or he could shoot air blades using sound. Sound should be viewed like Air and Vibration. His abilities should revolve around both defensive and offensive abilities that blast at opponents and more precise attacks that cut. He should be able to shake the ground to some degree using vibrations and vibrations even cause things to heat up as molecules bounding into each other rapidly so that even gives him access to further Jutsu. Dosu and the sound nInja were way underused and underpowered in my opinion. There's much you can do with sound techniques. You can even do things with frequency like making sounds that normally cannot be heard or too loud to be heard or amplifying sounds for your team or dampening sound for stealth purposes.

If he survived, I feel Dosu probably would play a role in building the Sound Village after the war and providing an option for Kabuto to have a second chance somewhere. Becomes Kage of his village and develops good relations with Konoha. He seems to demonstrate good leadership and high IQ, strong taijutsu, elite speed, has unique sound abilities that probably would've complimented whatever his elemental nature was (in Part II, with the ridiculous powers you see, Sound Techniques + elemental nature could make for some kind of microwave attack or a massive flamethrower....could even make for compression of air that creates massive bombs). Since he's already stated to have guaranteed chunin level skills and demonstrates he can keep up with Rock Lee, he probably can get to low tier Kage

Honestly, the Sound Ninja just disappear out of existence after the chunin exams, so I think originally Dosu was planted as a vehicle to explore that side of the world building, but Kishimoto went a different direction and unceremoniously killed him off.

Dont even get me started on the implication that Kabuto set Dosu up to die on roof. Shikaku could have been seen by the entire village on the roof. What if more than one ninja was watching. Like, he would have comprised the entire plan.

You can still have a sound 4, I think. Dosu is aware of the fact that Sakon is the leader of the sound 4 and the fact there is Ukon, sure Kiba has Akamaru, but it still, as a result, was a really bad idea and he would know it, so he could make the choice to go after Kiba (especially if the one he first bonded with was Kiba. Giving a dyniamic of old friend and new friend in the fight for Dosu). Plus, for the thing about him escaping Orochimaru's faceless minions, he may need a place to hide, and you could have something, like Kiba and Akamaru going on a walk, and Akamaru follo a scent and after a bit, Kiba realises it smells like blood or something and find Dosu, who would be strongly against going at the hospital, since he may be found... Kiba may end up grumpily bring him to his house, which gives further reason as to why they would bond. (So, if anything, it may lead to Dosu being an additional member of team 8, funnily enough and being better at having Kiba listening to him than Shino) Also, he knows their personnalities, so the plan to get Naruto transformed to get Sasuke would have worked, since Dosu could tell them how the sound 4 interacted, as far as he saw. But, him being alive in Shippuden could be interesting. He could have created a split storyline thing too, where he searches for Sasuke, along with the tracker team (maybe, before the start of Shippuden, Sakura also sometimes came along.)

You know what would have been interesting? What if Dosu could have been like piccolo? He started off as an enemy and became an ally who would even train the next generation. Maybe he could have helped teach sound based jutsu to team kakashi or help with training. Or maybe he could become an ally after learning about the death of his other team members fighting against orochimaru

omg this would make so many things better because after this instead of sai who i found boring dosu could be the new 3rd member of team7 he would have bonded with naruto over the saving saske arc both feeling guilty and he would have his own clear drive in shippuden which is defeating orochimaru i can easily see him eventually winning over more sound ninja and the climax for him would be leading/starting a revolt and in the time skip he would become the 1st kage of the sound village ( making a proper / official village)

If dosu and shikamaru faught tayuya then you could have a scene where the sound genjutsu is block by dosu either blocking it with sound to save shikimaru initially, or maybe he bursts his own ear drums to be immune, and they could still not win but just do better then have them both saved, but having shikamaru beat him, then dosu save shikimaru and finally a full fight of them both teamed up would be cool ngl

For the Sasuke Retrieval arc hypothetical, I think it would have been a better idea if Dosu was out on a mission initially and returns to the village during the arc and accompanies Rock Lee to save the group. Instead of him fighting Sakon, I believe him helping Shikamaru with Tayuya would be much better. Dosu has sound ninjutsu and he can play as a small counter against Tayuya's flute playing (disrupting how she controls her doki, make them more sluggish). Dosu should definitely die but I think his death would be better in early Shippuden (Tenchi Bridge, killed by either Orochimaru or Kabuto).

I think Dosu could just left chuunin exam and later joined akatsuki instead of challenging Gaara and pop up pretty late in it as a new recruit and team up with Deidara after Sasoris death or maybe with a completely new character. Joining akatsuki because he know he aint strong enough to defeat Orochimaru on his own but he knew Akatsuki hate Orochimaru as much as he do and therefor get their help, and would be cool fight to see Deidara and Dosu vs Orochimaru considering that Deidara also wanted to kill Orochimaru.

I imagined the story a little differently. Dosu would realize that Orochimaru was using him, but he wouldn't do anything about it right away. Rather, he would return to his shelter and maybe help with Sasuke until the end. There the two would have an interaction and eventually the Dosu would become part of Taka's team where he would kill orochimaru together with them. But i like yours too! :D

I like the idea a lot, Dosu could perhaps have an answer to the ability where the twins merge with him by using his own sound jutsu and the water in his body as a conductor on himself, managing to just flick his gauntlet and cause a vibration the ripples through his own body. This leaves them both in a weak state and Kakuro finishes off the twin that didn’t merge and saves him from them both? That’s how I’d see it playing out and Dosu after becomes a minor sound character or hermit like Sasuke was

I always thought that Dosu could join the Akatsuki with the purpose of eventually assassinating Orochimaru. He could join up with Deidara, or a brand new Akatsuki member, and confront Orochimaru in the Tenchi Bridge Arc. That Arc could really use some other plot point to keep things interesting.

There better be a part 2 for Shippuden, and it definitely shouldn't take SIX MONTHS for part 2 like you did in the other "What if Guy was present during Pain attack" video. Also Dosu could definitely still have a character arc, and a proper motivation/objective in part 2. Dosu in part two could be recruited into the ANBU either by Tsundae or Danzo (far more interesting option) after training extensively during timeskip. Both Danzo and Dosu's goals can align in taking down Orochimaru at all costs. He could replace Sai in the Tenchi Bridge arc and play the role of secret spy sent by Danzo while adding a whole new layer for of emotional tension. That being Naruto and Sakura seeing a character formally known as a comrade be influnced and changed by Danzo, acting shady and hardened like he isn't even part of the mission. Even after learning Orochimaru is killed, his new objective can be to neutrilze Sasuke fearing he will turn into a bloodthirsty murderer like Orochimaru, seeing his actions grow more violent post-killing Itachi. Although Sasuke promises not to kill innocents at first, Dosu suspensions are proven right when he sees Sasuke bloodthirsty-self during the 5 Kage Summit while Dosus escorting Danzo. He's completely different from the calm yet calculated Sasuke he saw during Tenchi Bridge and instead sees a physcho that has no regard for human life as he's willing to sacrifice his own teammates for his revenge. His new goal is to kill Sasuke. Not sure what else to do with him after.
