I'm an Itachi fan AND Sasuke fan. Them and Kakashi are literally the reasons I love this show so much. We can love more than one character without hating on the other. Edit: Sasuke stans are no different. Having spent more time in the fandom I've realised this. They think literally everyone around him is a monster and their individual struggles don't matter. Some other Naruto KZbinr did an analysis of the scene where Sasuke almost kirins Team 7. He made the observation that Sasuke deceives basically everyone there. He pushed them to defend their lives, then he made it look like he was about to kirin them because he knew Orochimaru would step in to stop him, then they left. He manipulated Orochimaru into convincing Team 7 he wanted to kill them, but made them feel like insects when he just kind of defers to Orochimaru and spares them, effectively letting them go on a whim. The whole point of the scene was for Sasuke to convince Team 7 that chasing him is futile and to stop trying, which is what he was trying to do since he first left The Leaf Village. Considering the 4D chess he played while fighting Deidara, it's not that hard to believe he was playing 4D chess back then, too.

Sure, he was always talented, but Naruto as a series was not mainly about hard work. Naruto's personal journey was the main thing. As for Neji, I agree I didn't choose him as the best example, but it was quite evident he got rid of his complex and was more or less at peace with himself.

Just in that, Itachi demonstrated that no matter what Kakashi says or teaches him, Kakashi won't be much help in attaining the power to Kill Itachi. Sasuke was obligated to kill Itachi not just to avenge the clan but to stop anyone else from being massicred by Itachi as he had already done prior. The power kakashi had bestowed on Sasuke (Chidori) was useless against Itachi and again even Kakashi with all his skill was nowhere near Itachi's level. But Orochimaru (who had already gave Sasuke immense power and showed himself to be far above Kakashi and somewhat in the realm of Itachi after killing the strongest known Shinobi in the village in Hiruzen) showed that he was not only willing to give him the power kakashi couldn't but was not limited by village regulations. Sasuke went to the guy who was going to betray him because he never intended to have his body taken over. Everyone knew Orochimaru was using Sasuke but only Sasuke knew he was actually the one using Orochimaru to attain his power and dip. Leaving Orochimaru high & dry. He just had bigger tahn most to actually make the gamble due to being fueled by revenge.

So even if you ignore Sasuke's curse of hatred from being an Uchiha + being Indra's reincarnation (meaning he was always destined to go to the dark side and seek power just like Madara & Indra before him regardless) and you ignore all the trauma of seeing his clan murdered by the once closest person to him (Itachi) over and over and over and over again at age 7 & age 12/13, and you disregard the fact that he was a teenager (and teenagers typically don't make the most adult and balanced decisions even in comfortable environments) and you also ignore the fact that the curse mark draws it's victim toward Orochimaru...Orochimaru is still the most logical choice to attain the power required for Sasuke to achieve his sole purpose in life. No one else in Konoha who was even remotely powerful enough to challenge Itachi would be willing to get their hands dirty enough to show Sasuke how to kill Itachi. Of course we eventually find out Guy was the most powerful shinobi in History before Six paths Naruto, Sasuke & Madara + Otsutsuki, but that only happens almost 500 episodes later. And he wasn't going to teach Sasuke 8 gates. If Sasuke wanted to avenge his clan (which he wanted more than his next breathe) Orochimaru was literally the only realistic option. Again, Sasuke's character makes even more sense than Naruto's or Itachi's.

Remember that the Sharingan evolves and gets stronger due to deep emotions. Itachi knew that Sasuke wanted this revenge, so Itachi wanted the boy to get strong enough to eventually claim the revenge he wanted and perhaps claim relief after all that trauma. It's like when you get hurt by something so you tend to hit it to gain some form of relief. I believe Itachi wanted Sasuke's pain and power to build up so that all the pain of losing his clan could be relieved. This is just my speculation...

The difference is, one was playful banter that defined their relationship and was important for their early characterization, and the other was a character having a very sudden shift in mindset, going from a troubled kid to a d0mestic t3rrori5t within a single arc. A lot of the Sasuke haters are hypocritical AF. The generally don't greet Madara, Indra or Obito with the same level of disdain and hatred for doing far worse than Sasuke did despite suffering a lot less trauma. And they definitely don't show hatred for Kakashi because they refuse to acknowledge he didn't have to see everyone he loved get brutally murdered in front of him hundred's of thousands of times by his own kin and they definitely disregard the fact that Kakashi essentially went on a killing spree in Anbu after losing said people. if the show's name wasn't Naruto you would think the main character was Sasuke. He has like twice as many fights than Naruto and his fights are consistently has higher quality animations and is better choreographed. Everything Sasuke does moves the plot forwards and his character personality, motivations, and development evolves throughout the enter series. He's actually probably the most influential character in show considering that the reason there's a part 1 and shippenden is due to Sasuke's actions. And also Naruto is actually the first show I've ever seen where the main female character that's role is obviously to be a love interest not end up with the Main character. Pretty much all hero's journey type coming of age story the main girl gets with the main guy, but Naruto get the b side female character.

Once a friend said to me that the main reason people don't like Sasuke is because his character it's in the shounen structure and in this stories you can't be an antihero but Sasuke's story in a seinen series would be a masterpiece to watch and i agree so hard to what he said. I love Sasuke as a character his entire story from his introduction as someone who will go to extreme lengths but never betray his true morals as to not become like his brother to a broken person who just doesn't care after learning a truth that changed his whole world view to someone who knows he can never truly go back from where he came from and uses that to his advantage to solve what Naruto can't keeping peace in his own way is probably my favorite in the whole of Naruto. But I do think the fans of Sasuke make me sometimes very jaded to him as they either simply his character or talk about his power in such a way that puts him in a level far above where he should be.

What I love about Sasuke is that he just wants to fight everyone. He constantly storms into battles he know he could lose just like Naruto does but he actually has a purpose for doing so. Sasuke is being hated for making the show the way it was despite the fans loving the show, that's Sasuke's vision and goal as a Hokage, by having everyone united AGINST him by hating him, painting himself as the bad guy-a selfless act if I've ever seen one, plus, its achieving cooperation as well which is Naruto's answer for peace-rather then uniting everyone UNDER him so he can rule over them. For that reason, Sasuke is THE hokage as he made his dream into a REALITY by making real people hate him for making things better. I think Sasuke would thrive with the public were Naruto to be released nowadays because the stories in shonen are now more realistic with more complex characters. Sasuke was ahead of his time in many ways which is the reason why he's so influential. Also, in my opinion, he is the perfect shonen antagonist with the way he constantly moves the plot forward by challenging both the heroes and villains alike without becoming too far gone. Kishimoto's writing often left much to be desired but he put every ounce of his talent with Sasuke because he's incredibly written and the main reason why I still fuck with Naruto the series now that I'm in my late 20s. I don't know if I would still be into the series if there was only Naruto as the MC because he's too much of a Mary Sue for my taste.

I really prefer him in Part 1 over Part 2 personally. Him coming around to Naruto's antics and developing a sense of brotherhood with him was very heartwarming. Then his ambition getting in the way of that comeraderie alongside some brazen manipulation from Orochimaru also flowed well in the story. I just don't really care about where he ends up in at the start of Shippuden. Stuff with Itachi and Deidara was the most enjoyable on Sasuke's part in Shippuden for me. So all in all, I like where he starts in the story and the beginning of his fall.

I mean, what were you expecting from Vegeta? He's a rival character, it was obvious he'd be there to still challenge Goku - but in a far more friendly way this time. Their rivalry isn't even remotely as antagonistic as it was throughout most of Z, Vegeta simply wants to grow stronger as any Saiyan would and he sees Goku as his measuring stick. He's not getting angry with Goku being stronger anymore, he accepts it but still tries to surpass him because he's still a proud warrior, but now there are no traces of evil inside of him. Sasuke didn't actually try to kill them in the Tenchi Bridge arc its quite obvious with the fact he was going easy on them, he basically told them they can't block his sword not to mention he had Yamato dead to rights but only stabbed him in his shoulder, Sasuke gave the impression he is willing to kill them but it was just a show because Orochimaru was watching, and there was no real sign he was actually going to use a kirin on them (no storm clouds). he was serious that he will have to kill them if they stood in his way for his revenge but he was just scaring them at the time as Sasuke himself stated he only wants to kill Itachi, so I doubt very much this was Sasuke with killing intent, as the way he was vs Itachi is a whole different ball game. That said, Honestly Sasuke is not written that well, at times it can make sense but at other times he is too rush to make a decision that contradicts a previous one, for example, discarding team taka like they were nothing to him when only a few chapters earlier he refused to let them die when fighting Killer Bee and Karin specifically was about die to the amaterasu, he unlocked the power to control the flames just to save her life, but treats her like garbage when she is no longer useful to him, that is not how Sasuke should act, even in darkness he still had redeeming qualities which in this moment he completely lost those qualities, I could understand if he was just trying to trick Danzo to let her go, but the story never admits to that, instead it treats it like a joke later as all it takes for Sasuke to say sorry and all is forgiven/forgotten. Also in the war arc he flip flopped a little too much, at first he wants to destroy the leaf only to become conflicted when he meets Edo Itachi, but when he decides to talk to the Hokages and changes his mind, to defend the world and not have Itachi's life be for nothing, he ends up shitting all over Itachi life anyway at the end by trying to do everything by himself and cut away the past which is not what Itachi wanted at all and makes his sacrifice mean nothing just as much as the Infinite Tsukuyomi does, I think Kishimoto threw in the revolution idea last minute (to have a final Naruto vs Sasuke confrontation) as that is not what he was building up at first, Sasuke wanted to change things but not like this, I think he truly did mean the line of being hokage for real, and Kishimoto did not know how to continue that from there naturally, so ended up changing what Sasuke meant, and I know this because the 5 kages lives were saved by none other than Sasuke, as Orochimaru, Suigetsu Karin would of not done so without Sasuke telling them to do so. (and that does not make sense for his revolution as he needed the kages dead). Also his change at the end is not believable at all IMO, he suddenly accepts the whole friendship shtick Naruto was selling from OG, and all it took is Sasuke not winning the fight and Naruto telling him you are my friend for the 100th time. Sasukes ending is basically him agreeing with the current shinobi system as Naruto done nothing to change it which makes no sense as what happened to him and his clan and family can still happen again.

Sasuke's idea was to unite the world with hatred by killing the kage himself. If they died before he could kill them then he'd have to find another way to make the world hate him. That would be more blood shed than he wanted. Sasuke wasn't trying to take over the shinobi world he was trying to keep them unified like the war did because he felt that once the war had ended they would be at odds again shortly after. Also, why not go heal the leaders and strong shinobi to go help with the fight? The kage are still capable fighters and serve as a rallying point for the allied shinobi forces.

Agreed. I think that Sasuke starts as an ok character. He was my fav character in the first 5 to 10 episodes, until his arrogance became to annoying. But up to Sasuke retrieval's arc was still ok. But as soon as he lett the box carried by the sound 4, it was a downhill. First he simply ignores Naruto, than suddenly he not only changes his mind about ignoring him, but sees him as an important asset that must be killed to obtain more power after the "you need to kill your best friend" retcon. And we can estipulate that his mind was under some effect of the cursed seal, but how much? I think it is very poorly clarified and developed. Anyway, up untill Itachi's fight he was less of poor character, as at least he was following a well developed path and being coherent with it. But after that? Holly shit. Let's do some "reasoning" of his mind: He spent most of his life with the utmost killing hatred for the one he thought was responsible for the utmost tragedy of his life. He discovers that it was done because Itachi followed orders and thinking it was for the greater good. I can tottally understand and would find very in accordance with the character if he decided to kill the elders who gave or were accomplice with the orders and those who oppose him. But no, he decides he must kill EVERYONE IN THE VILLAGE, even those who were kids back then and those unborn. But... it is almost okay! It is maddening, but It is still kinda plausable to estabilish that he has INDEED become mad, insane, kinda like in a lunatic berseker rage driven only to destroy anything tha can be "related" to the Uchiha Massacre. But not only Kishimoto doesn't estabilish this level of insanity in him, but also now Sasuke LOVES ITACHI!?!?! The fuckin baby in the village is unholly with sins that can only be cleansed by unextinguishable flames, but the FUCKIN GUY THAT PULLED THE TRIGGER deserves only love?!?!?! That, my friend, is indeed quite a whole other level of insanity. That's something likewise or beyond Juugo's cursed seal insanity. How can that be good for the story ? Naruto is basically the same self insert MC at 7 that he ends up at 30, while Sasuke went from raging kid that wanted revenge to a teen that got it, changed his whole approach to life, now wanting to kill his entire hometown. He also never makes any mistakes when making decisions because he is essentially Kishimotos self insert. Had a better reason to destroy Konoha than Orochimaru and Pain. Formed a better plan for peace than Madara, Obito, and Pain where he would protect from the shadows better than Itachi. Even had a better reason to become Hokage than Naruto (who wanted everyone's recognition. Sasuke to ensure things like clan massacres and war don't happen again). Best abilities, battles & character development across 700+ chapters. Great ninja, fighter, avenger, rival, antagonist, and anti-hero. Now being developed as a husband, father & master. Sasuke is the only reason I watched the show to begin with. Granted the story put itself into a massive pitfall with the Uchiha masssacre, and it revealed massive flaws in trying to make Itachi a good guy; when it reality genocide is an objective evil and a bitter way to solve conflicts. Sasuke losing his mental health and attacking Karin; the curse of hatred as a concept was never quite resolved. Naruto's solution was that he would attempt to solve it, and it somehow works. Moreover, it's one thing to make a sasuke a prodigy able to learn Lee's attacks. But the concept of hard work, Lee embodied; the show undermines this concept with Indra Senju parallelism.

What flaws? Because nothing changed after Itachi got exposed other than showing how corrupt the supposed "good guys" can be. It doesn't make the massacre out to be a good thing. In fact, it looks worse knowing that it was a result of basically racism towards the Uchiha mixed with political BS rather than simply a prodigy wanting to test the limits of his abilities in a messed up way.

There were no victims, no bodies, no survivors to tell the story, who wasnt swayed to identify with the one who commited the genocide (Sasuke after the "TRUTH") The audience was only given the perspective of the two psychos who committed the mass murder (Obito and Itachi), and the people who stands to gain from the mass murder (the village heads - revived kages) The same way Kishimato wrote in Sasuke asking Orochimaru to edo summon the 4 kage to learn about the Uchiha, he could have wrote in Sasuke asking Orochimaru to Edo summon his father and other Uchihas who perished in the genocide. To get their side of the story FROM THEM. but we only got one side of the story It was (fictional) genocide denialism. So no, the story might as well have portrayed the genocide as a good thing.

Personally I felt that Sasuke is more righteous than any character in Naruto series. Uchihas were annihilated for acting out against the oppression of Leaf village. How come those loser Naruto fantards don't realize that? Itachi is the worst charcter(Moral wise)in the Naruto series. If only the anime was called "Sasuke", Naruto would be the villain for preventing Sasuke's revolution against a seriously focked up Konoha system.

I whole heartedly agree on the Sasuke vs Deidara fight. That was my favorite fight in Shippuden because it felt like a fight from OG Naruto with all the tactics involved and all the twists and turns.

One of the things that I have issue with Sasuke's character is how quickly he changes in-universe. He easily trusted Obito's story about Itachi. Obito, who was partner to Deidara, a man that tried to kill a week back. He had no reason to believe anything Obito said- Sasuke himself told Obito that he is untrustworthy and Obito agreed. But a chapter or two later, small timeskip occured and Sasuke flat out says he will destroy Konoha and completely accepts Obito's story for Itachi as the truth. I'm not saying that Sasuke shouldn't have some doubts about it all, but reading the manga it felt jarring how quickly Sasuke changed. It didn't feel organic for him to do 180 based on a single conversation from a man he doesn't have any reason to trust. Same with his Revolution. It is not a problem that Sasuke reached conclusion about changing the Shinobi system. The problem that strikes me that he, once again, reached that conclusion based on single conversation with past Hokages. Sasuke changed his motivations three times during the war. He wanted to destroy Konoha, tried to bring Revolution and ended up admitting his defeat and joined Naruto. But the war lasted for two days. Although, I admit that this is more flaw of War Arc as a whole, than Sasuke's. The War should've lasted far longer. Sasuke's changes would feel more organic. Same goes for Naruto befriending Kurama and overall power progression of the story.

I feel like people don't realize how much time actually passes cause the story cuts from Sasuke being told the truth to him standing on a rocky shore dressed in his new outfit Sasuke did think about it more we just never saw it Also for the war Sasuke was once again influenced by Itachi finally not lying to him so he brought orochimaru back to hear the side of the Kage to find out what would make his brother go so far Learning Hashirama's back story made him go to the battlefield also he was actually showing signs that he was planning a revolution there's a whole inner monologue of him saying after he was done with Obito and Madara he'd do something against the alliance which we didn't know yet Hashirama was even suspicious of what he was thinking So his revolution was foreshadowed

I never understood why people didn't like the Sasuke vs Deidara fight - 18:21 I didn't watch the Naruto series until a lot later in my life but I didn't have a lot of outside influence on me luckily. But I thought the fight felt more like a great strategic fight won by Sasuke instead of the plot armor opinion!

To be honest, Sasuke reminds me of Guts. They both went through similar things (albeit Guts went through a lifetime of even more extreme horror), and they both end up going through somewhat analogous arcs. Guts is definitely better written than Sasuke, but that’s like comparing a very well crafted building to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Guts would definitely empathise with Sasuke’s plight.

He's my fav character, he def has moments that i think he could do better or remain how he was as example, remain calm and tactical like he did with Deidara against Danzo, but how he acted is very much validated, in the Bee Fight he def should still get clapped but after losing so much strength and not fully healing wish he wouldnt go in so cocky because of new eyes, anything that has to do with Itachi def gets him to lash out emotionally , then he went back to normal after defeating Kabuto but right before that was very much him being all hate consumed Id say Eternal and all after were my fav versions of him after Hebi, he doesnt get the most screen time in Boruto and when he does he has to look like fodder, i would have loved to see him more before or during the last

My only complain about Sasuke is that in Boruto *he always ran out of Chakra when you can literally absorb Chakra with Rinnegan* . Not only that, Sasuke never used Rinnegan other abilities apart from Uber no Jutsu and Deva Path (he used Preta Path in his fight against Naruto but he never used Human Path, Animal Path, Ashura Path that can literally create an arm for him, and Naraka Path that Sasuke can use to restore Guy's leg). I'm sure Kishimoto made Rinnegan too OP and versatile.

As someone who truly loves Sasuke as a character - this is a great summary of him and the reasons behind his actions. The way he acted and changed each time he learned something new is so painfully understandable I really wonder how people can miss these points about him. Is it about the lack of empathy and the ability of putting yourself in someone else's shoes? No idea. But also... as someone who loves Sakura's character just as much - is there a youtuber out there who gives both of them credit they deserve? The reason why Kakashi vs Sasuke was not gived more effort is because Sasuke was supposed to be low on chakra and stamina by that point after going all out at the kage summit and against Danzo and they wanted to show that a full stamina Sasuke at that point could've low diffed Kakashi
