What if Eli Manning Was Never Traded By The Chargers to the New York Giants During the NFL Draft

In 2004, Eli Manning was the coveted #1 overall pick of the NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Chargers (back then known as the San Diego Chargers) had the #1 overall pick, but Eli Manning refused to play for them if he was drafted by them. The only other time such a situation has happened with the #1 overall pick was when John Elway refused to play for the Baltimore Colts. With that being said, what would have happened if Eli Manning stayed with the Chargers? With a core of LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Shawn Merriman, Eric Weddle, Lorenzo Neal, and Darren Sproles. Who knows how dominant that team could have become? In this video we simulate what would have happened to the NFL if Eli Manning stayed with the Chargers.

Mike - You are absolutely correct...The only reason the NY Giants took Rivers is because they knew Chargers GM AJ Smith liked Rivers and knew they could work a potential trade. Without that "good faith", the NY Giants would have taken Ben Roethlisberger. Phillip Rivers gets picked #11 overall to the Steelers. BUT!! After the draft, Eli Manning would still be displeased and pull a "John Elway". Eli Manning at that point could have gone to any "decent team" with weapons that needed an upgrade at QB...perhaps dethroning an inconsistent Aaron Brooks with the New Orleans Saints (who ended up being 8-8), or Jake "The Snake" Plummer in Denver (who ended up 10-6). Drew Brees would have stayed a Charger! Can you imagine? Great video!! This is close to spot on!!! In my scenario, all three get Super Bowl rings: Rivers (Steelers), Roethlisberger (Giants), and Manning (Saints...or Broncos)....and Brees may have pulled out a Super Bowl with the Chargers.

@@TheFlightMike Marshawn wouldn't have been compelled to sit out for most of the 2015 season because the team would've been more willing to give him a better contract than what they originally did after he (if they run the ball on the one yard line in the Super Bowl) won Super Bowl MVP and as a result could've won one more game and given them the Number 5 seed instead of the Number 6 seed where they would play and beat the Redskins, and then go to Arizona and beat them as they did in Week 17, then going to Carolina and maybe still lose or maybe win with a hotter Seattle, and also Marshawn doesn't hang it up early with the Seahawks in 2016 after being Super Bowl MVP the year prior and then in 2017, they would've won at least one more game and gone on to be the Number 2 seed and hosted the Falcons in the Divisional Round and beaten them in Seattle and then hosted the NFC Championship in Seattle as well setting up a rematch of the 2014 NFC Championship Game with Packers vs Seattle and Seattle could've gone on to beat the Packers just as Atlanta did and set up another rematch, this time of the Super Bowl two years prior with it being Seattle vs Patriots in Super Bowl 51 and with Marshawn in the back field anything is possible. Also, this could have led to the team not going into a "rebuilding year" in 2018 and keeping the "Legion of Boom" together and ho knows what could've happened last year if that happened after winning 2 Super Bowls and potentially a third...........
