What if Everyone Lived in Just One City?

What if everybody in the world, all 7.4 billion of us all lived together in the same city? How big or small would this city have to be and how close together or far apart would we all be living from each other? This video explores those concepts and visualizes what a massive global city would look like were it to ever exist in the real world.

that's true, and no one could put out the fire because the roads would be so cramped that a fire engine couldn't even reach the fires origin to extinguish it.

Who said anything about roads? That whole area could just be a huge complex of buildings with everyone using hallways, elevators, and corridors to get around.

Compared to the rest of the landmass of earth, USA and Australia are quite small. Don't let 2D maps fool you, their size is different on those. For everyone on earth to live in a place the size of the USA is quite amazing. Seeing how Africa is like, 3-4 times it's size, not to mention everything else.

Seriously. While we could fit everyone, it would be a logistical nightmare. We could have an extensive metro but we'd need like multitudes of lines to handle the capacity. Not to mention how would people work in this society? If they worked a few floors down, then they could spend the majority of their lives in one building which wouldn't make for such a commuting issue. Still though..

If the entire population of Earth lived in such a dense area, we double-triple or quadruple it's size of rooms (and have each room be 2 floored) and have heaps of space. Then we make the rest of the continent effectively just farmland with only small amounts of population to manage these farms. Problem solved. It'd probably be a good idea to have a parking space or something around the entire city and leave no vacant spaces in the center like shown.. Having perhaps the roof as an accessible area as well as the surrounding parking area. The only ones in this reality needing cars would be the people transporting their food to the city. Because of the distance however, planes may be used as well. (The roof and surrounding parking area having Helicopter pads as well.) Now, there would be so much space in the world. However, what if we divided the population of humanity and placed multiple of these cities around the world each in their own continent? Meaning we could halve the amount of rooms at least and make the rooms even more spacey than before, double roomed and double floored. That's just 2 of these cities, now make it 4 and you've got 4x2 rooms. 8 and you've got 8x2 making an actually decent sized room on each floor of the living areas. Now There would be less demand for room, still there but the prices wouldn't be insane. We can lower this further if we make it larger than 8x3 the size of the calculation's field. Say, 96x(32x3) the size of the calculation and have a plausible size for each of these cities making them look the part of a huge city. The living areas for each place would be large-ish. Now we make vacant divider rooms in between each room, stairs spiraling around an elevator that starts at the top (not the roof) floor and a stair case spiraling around that elevator that both reach the bottom floor. If it gets too expensive with the elevator and some rooms need to be missed, there will just be a staircase clinging to the surrounding wall and a smaller vacant space in the center making the stairs a larger area. Now if we apply the previous paragraphs to multiple cities, say 14 (2 each continent) of these cities, we'd have massive amounts of vacant room. Perhaps, we add in some hallways reaching from one end of the city to other end as well without interrupting the size of the rooms. Yay, hallways. More accessibility. With the halls actually... We could make them very large to traffic lots of people, of course not everyone might be out so it might not be crowded. Buuuuut. We could make it like a train station, having 1 elevator and 1 stair case every 3 rooms instead of each. This hallway would allow jogs without having to go to the roof. The roof could be a recreational area only as well, only the smaller businesses being on the top in things such as ice-cream vans or the likes. Now we have all the living spaces and lots vacant, but if we add another 2 levels or so before the rooftop, we can dedicate that space to shops and the likes. It would mean the populace could get to work easily, because if they go up the elevator to the 2nd highest or the highest before the rooftop they could get to a shop to apply or work there, etc. You get the idea. Now add a floor before that and you've got the necessary areas, police stations, fire fighters, hospitals, military barracks, research rooms and the likes. They're ALSO in the vacant rooms, but the ones on the third highest floor would be spanning multiple of these large rooms. The smaller ones in the rooms downstairs being like forward bases and the larger ones being there upstairs as a back-up. Crime breaking out? The smaller ones will call for reinforcements from the upstairs rooms if it becomes too much.

King Gillette (yes, the razor blade man) made a serious proposition around the year 1900 to move the entire population of the U.S. and Canada into a city built around the falls at Niagara, which would be its primary power source. He wanted this giant city to have a suitably majestic name, so he borrowed a word which means "very big city" and named it *Metropolis* (evidently the first time anyone used that word as a proper name).

I think it would be interesting to see how much industrial spaces take up if they were all in 1 place and you could even break it down to subcategories. You could do mining areas, and land fill areas, all junk yards and graveyards of items and even the people ones too. There are so many that you could make a couple videos with all that Info. Just an idea.
