The Germans famously invaded the Soviet Union under Operation Barbarossa, which many claim online was the reason why Germany lost the war. This is seen as Germany’s biggest mistake, and some say it’s worse than declaring war on the United States.
Due to the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a 10 year long non-aggression pact, which Germany broke 2 years later. But what would happen if the Germans decided not to go down this suicidal mission and decided to focus on being the masters of all of Europe.

You are mistaken about one thing. Invading the Soviet Union was necessary and not irrational. Germany and occupied Europe did not have enough resources to sustain its economies and militaries. The British were blocking trade to all nations trading with Germany, including neutral Sweden. They knew from WW1 that they could starve out the Germans and this was why the Germans wanted to take the farmlands, coal and oil in the Ukraine and Caucuses. One of the reasons they failed is the German generals ignored Hitler and focused the forces on Moscow instead, thinking that the Russians would capitulate. However, Hitler was fighting an economic war and not a military one. He believed that if he took their food and fuel, then the Soviet Union would collapse. This is not irrational but it was taking far longer than he realised, partially because lend lease was literally keeping them alive. If they attacked and took Ukraine and the Caucuses in the first year, then maybe victory is possible. However, it would help if Japan attacked in the east and did not attack the USA for another couple of years. If the USA stayed out for longer, then the Russians would lose the means to fight. It would be better to defeat 1 enemy at a time for the Axis.

Being idiots, who rejected Ukraine, Belarus and as valuable ally was main blunder, they(ukrainians and other nations) could rebel, and also give them 2 000 000 soldiers only from Ukraine not mentioning lessening in guerillas and stable grain supplies. Ukrainian nationalists even declared independence, stating that Germany is an ally in proclamation but germans underestimated soviets and ukrainians and lost because of this.

If germany had an economic and cultural union around it then it does not need to invade to gain access to the resources. Something like the eu for instance

The German Empire had the better idea in that regard. Look at Brest-Litovsk, where several of Russia's western and southern regions got their own supposedly independent nations under the German sphere. Something similar to this should have been their approach, at least for the short term. Co-opt these people against the Soviets, _then_ displace them and Germanize the lands. Even if I didn't oppose this German regime on a moral basis, their complete lack of pragmatism would see me condemn them anyway. Complete maniacal idiotic zealots should not be in charge of nation-states.

It would require some foresight not to take indochina but yes i agree. Good suggestion. They were correct in their assessment that siberia was actually quite useless and resource poor. At least back then. So we can understand why they went south after the rubber and oil. Their army actually wanted to go north but I think the Navy lobby was stronger. It's a pity for them that they didn't know about the hydrocarbons on Sakhalin, so they actually didn't need to fight a land war with the Russians to get a domestic oil/gas production. For the Japanese, the fewer enemies the better, because they were so resource poor.

I don't think you necessarily need a full Army coup to get someone in power in Germany who wasn't going to attack the Soviets. If you believe Hermann Goring (at the time Hitler's designated successor), this was what he had to say about his opinion of Barbarossa when asked at Nuremburg. "Question: What was your attitude towards the German attack on the Soviet Union? Answer: I always opposed the war with Russia. When I learned about Hitler's military plans against the USSR, I was horrified. All aviation was thrown to the West and acted against the British at that time. The tasks facing our aviation were far from complete, and in the event of war with Russia, we would have to transfer about half of the planes to the Eastern Front. I had repeatedly tried to dissuade the Fuhrer from his intentions to fight the USSR, but the Fuhrer was obsessed with the war against Russia, and I could not deter him. I thought that the war against the USSR was inexpedient." Goring was always fairly reluctant about provoking additional enemies (per reports about his stance on pre-war invasions) and was, by Nazi standards, pragmatic and self-interested. Would not be surprised if the stalled 1941 Axis-Soviet talks actually went somewhere with him, given he'd still be looking to find some way to scare Britain into surrendering and the proposed Soviet attack on the British occupied middle east could fit the bill.

@@snert_moskalyam the concessions Stalin wanted were actually incredibly light (so light that Ribbentrop and the diplomats believed them to be a score). He wanted Sakhalin from Japan (but was willing to pay them compensation), a sphere of influence in the Middle East, joint influence with Germany over Turkey and the assurance his navy could pass through the bosporus, basing rights in Bulgaria (Germany could have that too), and a guarantee Germany wouldn't put troops in Finland in exchange for a Soviet guarantee not to invade it again and not to do anything to hinder Germany's access to Finnish trade in raw materials.

I have noticed a recurring pattern in your recent videos: you start to diverge from reality in certain areas, but instead of branching out further, you orchestrate additional "events" that force the story back into its original path. Here's a particular standout: we have a massive deviation, if not one of the most significant in this type of scenario - no Nazis in power anymore and a mild peace settlement. The idea that the USA (and possibly even France) would later be drawn into the war is very far-fetched and gives the whole video more of a narrative feel rather than a "what if" scenario.

What if Germany fought a purely economic war against the Soviets from the outset, rather than trying to capitulate Britain and then attempting the foolish Napoleonic strategy of rushing Moscow? i.e. could they deprive the soviets from enough oil, coal and food from the outsets and would this mean that the Soviet economy would collapse? There was no US involvement and lend lease supplies initially.

It is actually very easy to create a scenario where Germany doesn’t invade… Just have Germany invest in better Intelligence and realize the Soviets literally have more tanks than the rest of the world haha. So I think if Hitler knew that he would probably pause and rethink and also decide to build more and better tanks as Germany was seriously lacking in good tanks. So we could easily do that and have them convince Japan to join in attacking the British possessions while German & Italian forces fight across North Africa.

I have a different scenario idea called Traitors of Europe: fall of dictators. In this timeline Poland makes the Intermarium after a anti-communist revolution happens in Ukraine as a buffer between the USSR and German Reich. Japan has a coup and the militarists are removed from power. The Intermarium protests apeasement as its members are: Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, the Baltics, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Belarus, Ukraine, Albania and the Slavic countries in the Balkans because Pilsutsky thought that Yugoslavia was never meant to be. Fascist and communist parties and organisations would be banned like the Ustashe. The new Allies are: the Intermarium, USA, Japan, UK and France. Meanwhile the Axis are: Italy, German Reich and the USSR because they have common enemies with the first 2. WW2 begins a year earlier when Austria refuses the Anchluss. Italy is mutilated by Ilyria(a union between Bosnia and Croatia), Slovenia and France. The Intermarium holds the invasions off because they have Europe's breadbasket and the commies are busy losing the Winter war. Denmark joins in on the fun and helps pound the Fatherland flat and Japan invades Siberia and the commies kick the bucket. The new order sucks for the dictators as their regiemes turn into nothing more than failed experiments. The hammer and sickle rusts, the Soviet star goes supernova, the Swastika returns to the religions and the Fasces burns bright like the Sun.

Most teritorial diputes are settled as well as a open border alliance called the Danubian protocol which states any person felling oppressed in Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Illyria, Serbia or Slovenia, they have full rights to cross borders to the state at which they feel at home. Turkey hates the USSR because they promote atheism and the Nazis due to their racism so now you know.

a massive delay like that might make everyone believe that appeasement totally works, causing the British people to not want aggression and would further support appeasement when Germany comes demanding land. The Soviets would also grow a lot more stronger so the west would be more willing to side with Germany against the Soviets, the German economy would also be much more stable and they'd be more prepared. Italy was only a poor ally to Germany simply cause the war started unexpectedly, Italy thought they had 2 or 4 years more left to prepare, 10 years of time for Italy means they would've been much more confident and capable and a stronger ally. the delayed war would mean that Japan can fight China for longer without being embargoed by USA, causing more gains in China and perhaps even a conquer. A higher percentage of Germans would be more properly indoctrinated to believe in the reich's cause so the army as a whole would be more motivated. Spain could stabilize after the civil war with German and Italian support and potentially even be ready to side with them. Overall, the entire war as a whole would be completely different.

Fun fact. The USSR had plans for invading Germany already in 1941. This is stated by Viktor Suvorov in his book Icebreaker. There he states that the Soviets had been building railways and stationing troops in high concentration near the German border. Suvorov says that the Red Army was ready to attack Germany a couple of weeks after the Germans did - 22 June.

Fun fact: Viktor Suvorov never was a historian, he was a journalist who wrote some books to sell it and get money. Russian State propaganda found this books very useful. The fact that some people believe it even this days is shocking😂
