What if Immersive Sims had DINOSAURS!?

I think it's a smart move by indie creators to have non-human creatures as the main enemies (and friends, for that matter), from a pure scope/resource standpoint. You won't notice the uncanny valley effect from non-professional, kinda bad texturing or animations if whatever you're looking at isn't trying to be human to begin with, and AI acting in predictable and stupid ways is a lot easier to brush off if you're fighting a robot or a wild animal than if you're fighting e.g. a security guard - so the bar for acceptable quality is a lot easier to reach. Plus cool monsters are always more memorable than "it's just a dude lol" human enemies.

It goes even further with dinosaurs, since even with extensive research we can’t know for sure what they looked like. Texture not working out? Who cares! Just change it cos no one knows what they looked like anyway

Sadly humans and cats are synapsids while birds and dinosaurs are archosaurs. So Char and Frisk can not be dinosaurs. Raptor Jesus still finds us all delicious though!

It's nice to see free demos becoming a standard in the indie scene, it's a great way to let people see if something a bit more obscure is actually a game they'd be interested in and makes it clear that the title isn't just an asset flip.

Gorgonopsids are significantly closer to mammals than to dinosaurs, as a group they died out at the end of the Permian before dinosaurs evolved, the largest species was around the size of brown bear.

They are Synapsids or mammal like reptiles. They are basically reptiles starting to transition into mammals. So they got characteristics of both mammals as well as reptiles.

Dimetrodon is the most famous of the synapsids although the way taxonomy works mammals are also synapsids due to the word also applying to the clade synapsids belong to. Birds (and by extension dinosaurs) and crocodilians are in the archosauria clade.

I find it a bit sad that most people don't know what creatures as cool as Gorgonopsids were, it really shows how terrible public knowledge of palaeontology is, a better example might be something like the fact that people think Pterodactyls are a thing but this one is still good. Also that game looks amazing and it's always nice to see more accurate designs and niche creatures in palaeo media not specifically made by palaeontologists. I probably can't afford to back th project right now but I'll definitely get the game when/if it releases.

Its really bad though. Yes its a solo dev but combat is abysmal and breaks the game. Stealth is undercooked and unneeded at all. Story jumps from place to place and than sudenly you fight a god like in some jrpg.
