What ability changes would you make to Legendary Pokemon?

Regigigas with an ability that lets it spam hyper beam and other attacks that need to recharge Edit: maybe add some drawback like hyper beam being a bit weaker, like only 95-100 bp. Edit 2: same goes for giga impact, but idk if regigigas can learn it (missed oportunity if it doesnt)

I always felt as if Deoxys should get regenerator instead of pressure. The movie with it and rayquaza stood out to me because of its regenerative properties so thatd be p cool!

@@mr.ed.8533 I played both, also may or may not have min maxed the hell out of it. That being said, the same thing can be done with swampert in the original. There was luck involved, skarmory didn’t attack, let me stack power up punch and then I one shot everything with +6 attack mega aggron. +6 attack swampert would have done the same even without mega.

Hilariously enough, at this point Mewtwo needs a bit of help (relative to the other big legends of course). It’s pretty mid in ubers and MASSIVELY outclassed in VGC. Sheer Force would work with the whole ruthless mentality thing, not even bothering with secondary effects, just big damage.

Neuroforce would fit Mewtwo well. It wouldn't be too overpowered since Psychic is a really mid type nowadays. Fairy outclasses it in every aspect so much.

Regigias: replace Slow Start with Warm Up. Instead of cutting its attack and speed, it instead doubles its attack and speed for managing to burn 5 turns.

I could definitely see the Creation Trio having some busted abilities if their Origin Forms or even another set of forms that are on the same level of Arceus. Dialga could have an ability similar to your idea but after every turn, a second turn passes that affects everyone on the field that includes weather and terrain effects, damage over time and of course making recharge moves make it seem like they don’t recharge. Palkia could have an ability where it could make all moves accurate/hit both opponents but it could also make all moves used in succession give an increase crit chance making Spacial Rend more deadlier. And Giratina could have an ability to give all moves the Contrary effect to reference the Distortion World reversing everything.

Giratina could have an ability that inverts the type chart. Like that one battle gimmick they did for one trainer in XY, but Giratina activates it when he enters the field. Maybe Origin Forme only though... I'm not sure.

I like this concept. My initial thought was to give is something like "Shadow Cover" which would remove whatever the current weather affect is and boost ghost moves for 5 turns or something along that line. Basically a ghost type weather effect. Maybe raises ghost type evasiveness, though that probably a bit OP

I think Cresselia needs either some sort of healing ability or a specific stat buffing ability. It isn’t the “good night’s sleep” or “sweet dreams” Pokémon, but Darkrai is all about nightmares and what is the opposite of nightmares? Pleasant sleep. In addition to your new ability, Dialga needs Solar Beam given the sun’s relation to time.

Hey! This is a new ability I came up with for Dialga I’m calling it Temporal Loop. Here’s how it works: When Dialga’s HP drops below 50% from an opponent’s attack, Temporal Loop activates, and it resets Dialga back to the state it was in at the start of the battle. This means: • Full HP recovery • All status conditions like burn, paralysis, or confusion are removed • Stat changes (positive or negative) are reset to neutral It’s like Dialga rewinds time to when the fight began! However, any boosts Dialga gained from moves like Agility or Bulk Up will also be erased, so players need to plan carefully when relying on setup strategies. Once Temporal Loop activates, Dialga’s Dragon- and Steel-type moves get a 20% power boost for the rest of the battle. But there’s a catch-the HP drop must come from an opponent’s attack. If Dialga’s HP drops below 50% from moves like Substitute or Belly Drum, the ability won’t trigger. Also, it only activates once per battle-so use it wisely! Finally, Temporal Loop is exclusive to Dialga. It can’t be copied by abilities like Doodle, Entrainment, Role Play, or Skill Swap. The only way for another Pokémon to gain this ability is by transforming into Dialga with Mew or Ditto.

Yes and Heal them while they sleep. Considering sleep is a very rare condition , especially on allies, making Cresselia have an ability that heals sleeping Allys, negates bad dreams, and boosts their defense while sleeping will be acceptable power wise

I always hated Dialga's ROAR OF TIME being a simple Lazer beam, so my fan move idea was IT ROARS, and an image of the opponent being hit stun fades backwards, and at the beginning of the next turn, the image fades back, sliding backwards from the front, smacking into the opponent in the face dealing full damage, never misses, and even if they switch out, the damage is locked. The moment they swap in, they suffer the full damage. No idea if it should be kept 150, but to avoid spam, it can use Gigaton Hammer's thing of being unusable next turn, but you aren't stuck doing nothing for one turn

Honestly for Giratina i would give it an ability named "Distortion Field", basically when Giratina is sent out in the battle the field gets distorted and for 5 turns all the type compatibilities are inverted (for example water is now not very effective on fire and fire is super effective on water) and all the stat changes are inverted (Swords Dance would lower ur attack instead of increasing it), if Giratina is holding the Griseous Orb then Distortion Field will last 7 turns

7:35 Shadow Aura: The Pokemon summons a veil of shadows that protect it of any form of indirect damage (wheather, field traps, status problems). Also, gives it ground immunity. The ability is a reference to their battle in Legends Arceus (in which Giratina is surounded in a dark aura, that has a similar effect) and their first aparence back in pokemon platinum (in which it's all covered in darkness). The ground inmunity part it's because Giratina can fly in their both forms.

Giratina- Distorted Shadow- When a Pokémon physically attacks Giratina, has a 40% chance to cause new status effect distortion (basically more powerful confused which lasts longer and higher chance to have Pokémon hit themselves). A bonus could be if any move tries to hit it while it’s in Shadow Force, it does the same thing. But that might be pushing it

Time Control seems far more situational an ability than Space Control. Making every move in Doubles deal spread damage is game changing plus having perfectly accurate Hydro Pumps and Blizzards at no cost is a bit much. Whereas Time Control only affects a few moves in the game and nerfs their power at that. Maybe something like dealing damage based on the field's state on the prior turn could be interesting. Like the recoil from Draco Meteor wouldn't be taken into account the following turn, since on the prior turn Dialga had no stat drops. All 3 forms of Necrozma REALLY love Prism Armor already, and healing from light-based attacks is way more situational. Eternatus also makes good use of Pressure when it wants to run bulky Cosmic Power + Dmax Cannon + Meteor Beam + Recover movesets. Kyurem's Absolute Zero I also think would be a strict nerf to it, since Water attacks go from being resisted to neutral on it, while Pressure can help it cheese things with low PP moves.

Diagla = Time Control. Trick Room on send out (Trick Room permanent, while Dialga remains out) Palkia = Space Control. Magic Room on send out (Magic Room permanent while Palkia remains out. plus protection from the negative effects, so Palkia’s held items continue to work normally) Giratina = Dimensional Restoration. clears weathers, terrain, & Magic Room / Trick Room when sent out Giratina origin form = Dimensional Twister. summons random weather & terrain, and changes every turn. Giratina Hidden Ability = Dark Matter Effect. Reverse the calculations in damage of attacks that depend on a Pokémon size, weight, and other states. ( Heavy Slam does more damage the lighter weight you are. Electro ball does more damage the slower you are compared to your opponent. Low Kick does more damage to a Pokémon that are lighter. Foul Play does more damage to the opponent, the lower their attack.) effects of the ability applies to all Pokémon in battle. Darkrai hidden ability = Lucid Dreaming. when it enters battle, the opponent’s Pokémon have their ability changed to Drowsy. meaning that moves Dream Eater & Nightmare work on them without having the Sleep status. Heatran = Iron Core Gravity. When it enters battle, an automatic Gravity effect. ground type attacks, now affect flying types and levitate. and double the damage taken from stealth rock and spikes. Also in double bottles, it draws all physical attacks from the opponents Pokémon too target Heatran. Suicune = purifying winds = when it uses a water type attack. it heals itself and the opponents target Pokémon from all status conditions. then heals it’s own HP 1/2 of the damage dealt to the opponent Pokémon. Sucune hidden ability = rising currents. When it enters battle, it summons Wet Terrain. weakens the power of fire moves by 10% and turns normal type attacks into water. Entei = Tower Burner. when it enters battle, it burns all other Pokémon. And all of its damaging attacks have a 100% chance to burn. Entai hidden ability = volcanic bark. When it enters battle it summons Burning Terrain. boosts the power of all fire type attacks by 30% and burns all Pokémon, except for fire Pokémon when they switch into battle. Raiku = Tower Striker. All of its electric type attacks, always have priority usually goes first, never mess, and ignores the effects of protect, substitute, light screen, and reflect. Raiku hidden ability = summons electric terrain when it enters battle. (New too electric terrain, in addition to its old effect, any attack that has a chance to cause paralysis. now has the odds to cause paralysis increased to 50%.)

I think that reshiram and zekrom's abilities are great, ignoring abilities is a niche that really add to the reasons to use them over other ubers. Instead of a reskined mold breaker I think that it should keep its mold breaker effect AND give them a 30% boost in fire and electric moves respectively.

I'd give Giratina the ability Wonder Guard, or a variation called "Annihilate". Based on the concept of annihilation in physics, in which antimatter and matter cancel each other out. In this case, since supereffective types are sometimes based on opposites (like Water > Fire > Ice), Giratina's antimatter properties make it so that it can only be "destroyed" by the opposite properties. Alternatively (to make it less broken), the ability could instead be something like "Antimatter Armor", which makes it only immune to supereffective hits (the ability works like a protective shield surrounding Giratina)

For Giratina Shadows Meld should be it's passive. What it does is it reflects back ghost and dark type move with twice the power back to it's sender when Giratina is in Origin Form. When Giratina is not in Origin Form Shadows Aurora should be it's passive where whenever you're in a Dark Places to do Pokemon fights like as in night time, caves and others like deep underwater diving; Shadow Meld would work normally while in daytime evasion is lowered by a tier.

I had a couple ideas for new signature abilities for Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Arceus a few weeks ago, and they're pretty broken, so this is a good place to put them for the world to see my maniacal side. Dialga: Time Skip: Ally pokemon's moves do not require charge or recharge turns. Negates ally pokemon's Slow Start/Truant abilities. Palkia: Space Warp: Ally pokemon's moves always hit their target, even during the semi-invulnerable turn of moves such as Dig, Fly, Dive, etc, except Shadow Force used by Giratina. Giratina: Rage Boost: When Giratina takes damage of any kind (passive or direct), increase two random stats by one stage, except evasion (can roll the same stat twice, in which case it increases by +2). Giratina is immune to sleep, paralysis, burn, freeze, poison/toxic poison, and confusion statuses. Arceus: Omnitype: Arceus' defensive type and Judgement match held plate or Z-crystal. Arceus gets STAB on ALL moves, double STAB if it matches its plate or tera type, and triple stab if terastalized into the same type as the held plate. Terastalizing adds to Arceus' existing type instead of replacing it if differing from the held plate. I know they'd probably all get insta-banned to AG if they got these, but they're literal gods, so they should be busted. "Ally pokemon" refers to both user and ally(s). None of these abilities can be copied, swapped, overwritten, or negated by things such as Trace, Skill Swap, Entrainment, Neutralizing Gas, Gastro Acid, etc.

Another 'broken' but fitting direction to take Light Reflection would be that they can't be targeted by single target attacks unto they are hit or hit the opponent. Could have an entry message like 'Latias/os is hidden from view!' and a follow up 'Latias/os has appeared!' A cheaper way is just giving the, +1 or +2 evasion. Still fits, but might be more 'Annoying bastard' than 'Broken'

To me a giratina signature ability could be pretty interesting concept My first idea is something I would call distorted just Essentially it’s a set up/set up move like sunny day or trick room Essentially my idea is that when it enters battle a mist surrounds the battlefield that causes stat related moves to distort and become the opposite of what would burn all happen as if everyone had contrary Essentially moves like dragon dance would lower stats and super power would raise them and you would need to balance your team to ensure you don’t either debuff yourself or buff your enemies Could really help with kind games as the opponent can’t just set up a dragon dance or swords dance when they read a switch

Awesome job on the new video JPR. I got you on ideas for a couple of these legendaries. LUGIA -STORMBRINGER: Upon switching into battle, its powerful wings flap to set up Tailwind. Also gains a 20% Boost in Power to Aeroblast! GIRITINA -DISTORTION: Upon switching in, it's very presence Alters reality & turns the battle into an inverse battle. Hot take: Teravolt and Turboblaze should work like Fairy and Dark Aura and vice versa. They're all "aura" abilities afterall, it's not like Xerneas or Yveltal would be broken with moldbreaker, but Zekrom and Reshiram would greatly benefit from having their fire and electric STABS boosted by 1.33x. Their dex entries even state that Zekrom and Reshiram can burn the world with lightning/fire and their lightning/fire are the most intense and powerful in the world

I'd give Giratina an ability that activates the effect of "Gravity" on Switch-In, which seems fitting enough, while not being overtly broken imo and it could make good use of it by using more low accuracy moves, like Thunder or Stone Edge as an example

7:35 a possible one can be reverse realms were all moves are affected by the contrary ability making all stat boost have the opposite affect for all Pokémon on the field fitting into the reverse world theme. We can give it super power and overheat and some other moves to help.

I've been thinking about this a lot, and I had similar ideas for Dialga and Palkia. For Regigigas, I thought it'd be interesting if Slow Start worked less as a strict cut and more of a warm up: so the first turn its Attack and Speed are halved, then the next turn they're only reduced by 75%, the turn after they're at 100%, then turns four and five they're at 125% and 150% before capping there. Regigigas getting a free Choice Band and Scarf through its ability would be insane obviously, but given that it'd need to burn five turns before getting there I feel it'd be pretty balanced

Ability for Giratina! Distortion Field: inverts the effects of all other abilities only while this Pokémon is on the field. It would mainly would make abilities that lower stats boost them instead and vice versa, but it could also do some cool stuff like make Pokémon with Shadow Tag unable to switch out instead of making their opponent unable to switch out, Magma Armor makes a pokemon guaranteed to be frozen if hit by a move that can freeze, Pokémon with Truant attack twice per turn, etc.

Similar to how Rayquaza and Zygarde have abilities which let them basically cancel out the other two Legendaries in their respective trios, I think Giratina could have an ability called something like "Ghostly Distortion" which activates when it uses its signature move Shadow Force. Doing so would activate a "Distorted Terrain" on the field, which nullifies the effects of Palkia and Dialga's own abilities. Giratina's Pokedex entries all pretty much say the same thing about it being banished for its violence, and the Distortion World being a place where common knowledge is distorted, so if you wanted to lean more into a lore-accurate ability, you could have the Distorted Terrain apply some other kind of effect, like changing the effects of status moves or something. Someone else in the comments mentioned Giratina changing the battle to an inverse battle, which would also be pretty cool, but I'm not an expert on competitive and feel like having one Pokemon that can completely change the format of a battle would be too broken and make competitive battling a complete nightmare. On the violence side of things, another possible ability for Giratina would be an ability called "Ruthless Spirit" or something along those lines, which would allow Giratina's ghost type attacks to always hit an opponent regardless of any typing, ability, evasion/accuracy or protection. You could probably take it a step further by making ghost type moves ignore resistances as well, or have them get a buff when the ability activates, but that would really be up to how overpowered you want to make it. Shadow Force could probably be slightly adjusted to account for this ability as well.

I think Giratina's ability should be something called "Antimatter Armor" to fit its physiology being an opposite dimension god. IDK what it's effect should be; either takes half damage from special attacks (sorta like Fur Coat but not physical) or makes it resistant to its own types which it's normally weak against.

I love the concept of new lore-themed abilities for Legendary Pokémon! I had a similar idea for Dialga and Palkia where they each control time and space. Each would be accompanied with a new signature move (for their secondary types) that would take advantage of the ability. For Dialga, this would be "Temporal Aberration" which is pretty much a Power Herb for everyone on the field and skips recharge. Likewise, Palkia would have "Interstellar Abeyance" which makes the effects of Gravity permanent. With Giratina, I had a hard time creating an ability that made sense for it. Shadow Shield would make its Altered Form truly unkillable and I would love to see it. After doing some research on antimatter, I came up with the aptly named "Antimatter" which is Contrary for everyone. This would be a double-edged sword but it goes along with everything being inverted. I want Regigigas to finally escape from the depths and receive a new ability titled "Regis Mode." This would give it both an offensive and defensive boost. This would slightly boost the power of its Rock, Ice, Steel, Electric, and Dragon moves while also reducing damage received by said types. For Zekrom and Reshiram I went a bit overboard and borrowed from Miraidon and Koraidon by buffing their abilities to mimic the effects of Hadron Engine and Orichalcum Pulse but increasing Attack and Special Attack respectively. Yeah...these two would be a problem.

I came back to this Video 6 Months later to show off the Abilities I came up with. Ho-Oh: Color Trail Effect: Whenever Ho-Oh is switched into the Battle Field, a Rainbow appears for 5 Turns. (Rainbows are already a Thing in Pokémon although you can only ever summon one if you combine Fire Pledge with Water Pledge. They basically have the same Effect as Serene Grace which fits perfectly with Ho-Ohs Dex Entries in which it is said to give Eternal Luck.) Lugia: Storm Wings Effect: Whenever Lugia is switched into the Battle Field, Tailwind begins to blow for 5 Turns. Groudon: Landslide Effect: Summons a Terrain for 5 Turns that boosts Ground Type Attacks. In this Terrain, the Power of Electric Attacks is reduced. (I was really in Love with the Fact that Koraidon and Miraidon can battle together and against each other while their Ability Effects are on at the same Type. Thus I decided to give Groudon a Terrain Effect as Land doesn't really have something to do with the Sun. With this, Kyogre's Drizzle and Groudons Landslide can be active at the same Time and Air Lock finally has a Reason to get buffed so it does more than the Cloud Nine of a Psyduck. It now clears Terrains aswell. Drought would still be Groudons Main Ability but Landslide would be the Hidden Ability.)

What about this for Dialga and palkia: Palkia: Spatial Anomaly - Reverses the condition of all moves types. All special attacks become physical, and physical moves become special. Move's like Psychic are affected by abilities such as poison point, rough skin, etc. and work off of the pokemon's attack stat, and vice versa. Dialga: Sands of Time - When Dialga is switched into battle, it can negate the opponents move for that turn. (It's essentially a safe switch in). Other ideas i had for Dialga but i couldn't balance properly: Time Travel - Roar of Time's charge up phase can send a move into the future that will hit in 2-5 turns (like future sight but for an entire attack). Time Distortion - Every other turn it can either use a randomly selected move used previously in battle, or attack a second time in the same turn.

For Giratina how about an ability that makes Weather and Status Conditions Effects be Reversed while on Field, So Burn and Poison Would Heal and Burn gives Atk buff, Para would give Speed Buff, Sun and Rain would Lower dmg of moves and Sandstorm heals while Snow and sandstorm would give Defense down buffs to Ice and Rocks types Just Call it Distortion Control or Avatar of Chaos XD (maybe Avatar of Space/Time would be better name for Dialga and Palkia ability?)

Dialga Origin: Temporal Crush: Time based moves regain their drawbacks and lose a small amount of accuracy, but gain a 50% boost in power. Palkia Origin: Spatial Focus: All spread moves used against Palkia's team only hit Palkia, and all the opponents moves lose some accuracy. Giratina Origin: All weight and speed based moves used by Giratina and it's teammates always do the maximum amount of damage.

Giratina: distorted portals: what it does is, every ghost type attack from giratina or one of its allies use always hit first, and, when giratina uses a ghost type attack it’ll take them into the distorted world that kinda works like sturdy for giratina, and it can’t be one shot, the distorted world boosts all ghost type attacks and it goes away when giratina gets hit ( it also boosts giratina’s dodge rate by 10% )

For giratina I would create: Anti-matter conversion. Any attacks from any type becomes super effective agains anyone for x number of turns. You could nerf it with something else, but hey, I love giratina xD

Slow start could boost regigigas Atk and speed by 50% if he stays on the field for 1-2 turns but still keeps his lessened atk and speed for the first turn he’s out. Or they could make so that after 2-3 turns pass total with him on the field (regardless of switching out he gets the boost)

I think The weather Trio could do with revamped abilities (or hidden abilities) Rayquaza - Ozone Eater : Flying Type moves heal the user and the user is immune to meteor moves (Draco Meteor and any move that involves dropping rocks.) Groudon - Molten Titan: 3 Moves after it enters the field, the ground becomes molten, causing Ground moves to become fire, and fire moves to do more damage. When active, the ability has a chance to burn the opponent every turn if they are grounded. Removing the Pokemon before Molten Titan can activate resets the Move Limit. It can be cleared by Cloud Nine and Nullified by Air Lock Kyogre - Tempest Leviathan: 2 moves after it enters the battle field, the skies become a tempest, shrouding the Pokemon side, reducing incoming Special Damage and increasing speed. It is only active for three turns when it enters the battlefield after the 2 move penalty. Can be cleared prematurely remove Tempest with Cloud Nine. (you can chain it by constantly swapping Kyogre in and out. this is helped by reducing special attack move, meaning if you were to switch to a low special defense Pokemon, it will gain a huge benefit. Because it does not remove damage from a specific type of move, Molten Titan may be really good against it as it will cause the reduction of Fire Type moves to be nullified and with a fast enough Pokemon, you will hit first. Stab will be good too.)

for Giratina I suggest altered forme - shadow cloak - getting hit by ghost or dark type moves heals the pokemon. origin forme - anti-matter control - getting hit by ghost or dark type moves heal the pokemon. also, all of giratinas ghost type moves will ignore 50% of the target's def or spdef. hitting a normal type target or a target under protect, detect, etc will cause the damage to double.

Personally, I think the Zapdos and Moltres should have Drizzle and Drought respectively, keeping them in line with your idea for Articuno. Dialga, Palkia and Giratina on the other hand, I think should share an ability (but with different names) the ability to switch in and use an attack on the same turn, Dialga could "freeze time" Palkia could "bend space" and Giratina would distort... something.

Giratina’s hidden ability: shadow rush. All of the user’s ghost type moves have the chance to be +1 priority. Void’s Blessing: if Giratina is not on the field but in battle, regain hp equal to leftovers ( phantom force, substitute, etc) Creeping darkness: any non dark or ghost type pokemon cannot fall asleep. Dark and ghost types gain increased defense (1 stage) Voidbane: ghost moves gain super effective hits vs dragons (this also makes incoming ghost moves 4x effective)

Give giratina "Moonlight night". Summons nightime weather effects. Like the opposite of sunny day. It boosts moonlight's healing and can add buffs to ghost and dark type moves. There are a lot of ways we can handle this but here are a few examples: -Powers up dark/ghost type moves -Adds flinch chance to all ghost/dark attacks -Dark/ghost type pokemon gain evasiveness

I just thought of something way more broken than Time Control called Turnback. *Turnback:* When in danger (red health), Turnback takes you back to the amount of HP you had the previous turn. It can only be used once per battle.

Maybe for Giratina, a signature ability acting like a built-in White Herb in exchange for any lower accuracy by 20% (something like Draco Meteor's halved Special Attack or Superpower's Attack & Defense drop being negated, for example) known as Dimensional Merge or Nitro Matter (still reconsidering name options)?

some other giratina abilitiy concepts: distort: lowers an opponent's stats when entering the battle (works like intimidate, but the stat effected is random) i guess this was sort of inspired by the whole "distortion" thingy giratina has going on non euclidean: stat debuffs applied to it instead affect a randomly selected stat. on occasion, debuffs that decrease a stat by more than one stage are split across multiple stats distort but for your own stats zero gravity: flying types and pokemon with levitate can be hit with ground type moves inspired by the distortion worlds odd terrain twisted terrain: upon entering battle, sets up some terrain effect. idk which one, none really seem to fit... same as above, also somewhat inspired by palkia out of time: while in battle (and maybe a few turns after exiting battle, either via switching out or fainting), sets up trick room im... not exactly sure why i made this... i think i just thought itd be cool to give giratina abilities relating to the other 2 legendaries (wanted to do one for arceus as well, but couldnt think of anything...)

Palkia : Space Control - bypass Accuracy for Palkia only, and increase crit ratio for Dragon and Water move only (exclude OHKO moves) Dialga : Time Control - bypass cooldown for Dialga only, and 10% chance to flinch for Dragon and Steel move only

For Giratina why not make it’s ability be something where it like nullifies the effects of terrains and stuff set up on the field, so trick room won’t work if it’s in play, or grassy terrain or other similar moves to that won’t work either
