Basically they returned home with an Italian new friend. Quite a story.

Well, that -1 story is false. The supposed ''-1'' soldier was an Austrian officer. You see, the Austrians were allies with Liechtenstein. When Austria was at war with Italy, Liechtenstein came in to help. They left with 80 soldiers, but never actually turned up at the front. Then the Austrians needed to accompany them back home, so they sent a few austrian officers. When they were at the border, the Austrian officers left to come back to their main army.

Btw in 1966, during the Austro-Prussian kerfuffle, Liechtenstein joined Austria with an army of 80 men. When the kerfuffle was over, Liechtenstein’s army returned with 81 men, so they had negative casualties.
