"What If" was a comic book series by Marvel Comics that originally started in 1977, whose premise was, as the name suggests, "What If?" for various events within the Marvel Universe, ranging from the monumental ("What If... Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four?") to the ridiculous ("What If... Wolverine Got A Real Job?") and has asked a LOT of alternatives to beloved storylines in Marvel Comics. FYI: DC Comics has a similar program - dubbed _Elseworlds_ - as a series of unrelated miniseries and graphic novels, usually devoted to one specific character, such as _Superman: Red Sun_ ("What if Superman's rocket from Krypton had landed in Soviet Russia instead of rural Kansas?"), or _Batman: Bad Blood_ ("What if Batman gets bitten by a vampire?"). These have also been made into animated films, and are quite worth watching - some, even better than the live-action DC films, IMHO. Also, as a personal aside, "alternate history" tales have a long and respected history in Science Fiction literature, and for those who enjoy this series, is well worth looking into.

It's crazy how popular the idea of Marvel Zombies is. The concept originated in a multiversal crossover issue of Ultimate Fantastic Four. In the Ultimate Fantastic Four story, the zombie Reed Richards tricked his Ultimate Universe counterpart into opening a portal to the zombie universe, only for the latter to contain the former from ever coming to his universe. Then it got a main comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead. It also got a prequel crossover with Army of Darkness, where Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series crosses into the Marvel Zombies universe. The episode of Marvel Zombies was so popular that there was a zombie Captain America character at Disneyland's Halloween event called the Oogie Boogie Bash.

So, when the Zombies episode first dropped, I was on the couch with my household, my Spouse sitting next to me, and our 23 Lb. cat Hennessey who had wedged himself between us because he loved TV Time. That being his favorite spot, a lot of hand-holding during intense moments happened right above his head and he definitely took notice of that. So when the handholding happened early during the Zombies episode, he joined in with furious comfort grooming of both our hands, trying to calm us down. But as the show went on and he kept watching it with us, he curled up tight with his face firmly buried in my spouse's leg. We tried to coax him out from hiding, but with every try, he'd just let out a little mew-cry and bury his face in deeper. After the episode was over, we gave him lots of love and treats and promised to not play any more zombie media when he was watching with us. (This was a few weeks after an incident while watching a show of a different series, he'd showed us how much he'd been paying attention. Normally it would be the whole household watching episodes together, but one week I had a late shift on what was our only viable grocery night for the week, so my Spouse ended up watching the episode first before I got home, and I watched it while they went out on the errands. So Hennessey got to see that episode twice in the same night. About 2/3rds into it, he starts pawing insistently at my hand, so I went ahead and held his paw ... just in time for the show to drop the biggest plot twist of the season, a moment that had my spouse been there I would have been squeezing the circulation out of their hand. But they weren't so Hennessey knew he had to step up.)

Strange (figuratively) losing his heart was what many deemed the best episode of this season and quite possibly the entire show so far The zombie episode paves the way for a spin-off called Marvel Zombies. The first season will have four episodes, and it’s set to drop sometime in the future. 23:02 Michael B. Jordan is an actual anime fan. So I’m not sure whether that was scripted or improv. He said his favorites are One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter X Hunter.

Yeah, time travel can be tricky. Strange falls into one of the more insidious traps. He went back because she died. So if she doesn't die he won't go back, but since he did she has to die. It can be almost any event that prompts the time travel and starts the causal loop.

The irony of the Dr Strange episode is that Rachel McAdams was in a movie with basically this same plot called Time Travelers Wife with Eric Bana who in a non MCU movie played The Hulk.

Dr. Strange's tale is highly based of the modern version of The Time Machine. Both Time Machine version are worth watching. Marvel Zombies was a great comic arc.

The Marvel Zombies universe of Earth-2149 is insane within the comics. It's first introduction was The Ultimate Fantastic Four #22 (2005) when the Fantastic Four of the Zombie Universe (Earth-2149) lured the Reed Richards of the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) to their dimension in order to eat him and travel to the Ultimate universe. But Reed escaped thanks to the help of the other Ultimate F4 jumping in to save him and travelling back to their own reality. The zombie reality would then be explored in Marvel Zombies afterwards. The Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) home of the Ultimate Fantastic Four was a re-imagined and modernized continuity that brought it's hero's into the 21st century with new origins, designs, and personalities. You can view it as a "reboot" but it released alongside Marvel's Mainline Universe, never replacing it but just showcasing a new take on a Marvel universe. It began with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000) and later expanded with Ultimate X-Men, Fantastic Four, and The Ultimates, The Avengers of this reality. It was more edgy and moody similar to DC'S New 52 (2011 to 2015) reboot a decade later. Some stuff worked really well, Ultimate Spider-Man was great and it gave us characters like Miles Morales. Ultimate Spider-Man for me personally was the peak of this whole universe. But for the most part fans had mixed views on this universe going into the late 2000s and 2010s. The Ultimate Universe was then destroyed in 2015 with a few characters surviving and making their way to the Mainline Marvel Universe. The Zombie universe (Earth-2149) on the other hand was identical to that of the main Marvel reality, Earth-616 with a few changes like Captain America being known as Colonel America after a few promotions. And Steve was also President of the United States. Some characters also appeared in older versions of their costumes while others in more modern outfits. But for the most part it's based on the mainline universe just like how this episode showcases an branched timeline of the MCU with zombies. I guess this shows the dangers of travelling to other universes. Imaging being lured into a reality by a zombie version of yourself

If you don’t know who that is, you’re in for a double treat. Triple if you count Altman.

The "Doctor Strange"one makes me hurt every time at the end with his hopeless "I'm sorry..." "Marvel Zombies"of the comics are far more intelligent, still having the power of speech, their same strength and speed and the ability to think and plan. In the comic, the virus is created through Magneto trying to wipe out humans, but it creates a plague that infects the superpowered community. This universe has "Colonel America". Doctor Reed Richards(Fantastic Four)goes insane after his children are killed by She-Hulk and infects the rest of the 4, seeing it as their natural "evolution", Giant Man(Hank Pym)does as Vision tries to do here and feeds off Black Panthers limbs(as being full allows them to be mentally stable for a time), Thor can only wield a chunk of rebar attached to a cinder block(as he is no longer worthy of Mjolnir), Spider-Man eats Aunt May and Mary Jane and lives in constant guilt of it when they are apart, Banner is infected and becomes Hulk whenever hungry, etc; The zombies eventually eat the planet pretty much clean, before Silver Surfer arrives and they kill him and absorb his powers, eventually murdering Galactus when he comes to earth and the few who remain begin to spread across the galaxy and eat other planets as the new "Galactus".

Man, the Wanda/Vision relationship just does not end up well in just about any Universe, does it? When one of them dies or gets zombified, they seem to end up turning evil. (granted we only have about two datapoints so we can't really draw any strong conclusions)
