Easily the best movie of the franchise, and if you consider it the end of the X-Men films, it solidifies them as the only superhero tragedy we have. Magneto was right, Stryker’s last words came true, and Beast’s theory about time being like a river correcting itself manifests here. I love the smaller scale of the story and the final major enemy for Logan to be life itself. Also, for a small clarification; remember when Xavier did this trick where he froze crowds of people? His seizures are basically a violent and uncontrolled version of that where he even stops people from breathing and can get them killed if he kept it up for a long enough time. That’s how the X-Men died. Logan can take it for longer because of his healing capabilities, same as Laura.

Eh I consider this the end of just one of many X-men timelines. This could be the og Singer timeline, the DoFP timeline, the Apocalypse timeline, we know it's not the Deadpool timeline, or it could just be it's own separate timeline altogether as a standalone universe. Logan (the movie) is very much a Western at heart, and Logan (the character) has a journey similar to Shane, as they're both former fighters trying to leave the life of violence and bloodshed behind them but are forced into battle one more time. Two years before we cried for Tony, we cried for Logan. Other reactors who have gotten into the X-Men movies over the last 2-3 years have felt the same way. Laila Naema, Sebscreen, Natalie Gold, Mary Cherry, VKunia, and Addie Counts - none of them had a dry eye by the end of the film. It won’t be long before Ashleigh Burton watches this film, too. Movies with Mary and The Perfect Mix are working their way up the ladder as well. Both have just finished watching X-Men 2. In Days of Future Past, the X-Men were able to avert total disaster in their original timeline and prevent the sentinels from being created. However, in this new timeline, mutants are still going extinct. This time it’s not because of the Sentinels. Rather, it’s Canewood corn syrup. There have been hints shown throughout the entire movie, but it wasn’t confirmed until Zander Rice brought it up. Any food that contained Canewood corn syrup such as the drinks and cereals he brought up would reverse the mutagen because Alkali-Transigen would embed the counteragent into the genetically modified corn. To add to that, Charles started losing control of his powers in 2028. In the process, he accidentally killed some of the X-Men. Some behind the scenes trivia: Hugh Jackman accepted a pay reduction in order to give this film an R-rating since he didn't wanna hold back on the violence this time around. As for X-24, Hugh would have two stunt doubles - one for Logan and one for his clone. When Hugh would portray one of the two, the corresponding stunt double to the other character would step in. The comics used in this movie were drawn by Joe Quesada and Dan Panosian. Director James Mangold was allowed to embed comics into the movie as long as they weren’t actual issues that Marvel published. (For me, this is also the first time I see comics in a comic book movie. The second time would be Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.) And finally, Dafne Keen herself pitched in the idea to have Laura speak Spanish, and they gave her the green light. In real life, her father is British and her mother is Spanish. As someone who grew up in a Spanish speaking household, I felt that was a nice touch to her character. Following her debut, she would go on to star in a BBC/HBO series titled His Dark Materials which is based on the Scholastic book series of the same name. More recently, she got to join the cast of an upcoming Star Wars series called The Acolyte. Dafne portrays one of the main characters of the show. At the moment we don’t know what her character’s name is, but she’s a young Jedi.

4:13 I was my mom’s primary caregiver and I watched how dementia literally erased her before my eyes and reduced her into a child with special needs, slowly took her away from us. Patrick Stewart was phenomenal in this role! Plus the majority of my life I worked what could be considered “high risk jobs” dealing with violent or at risk young adults, till I was sidelined and had the majority of my spine fused together with titanium. Both her and Logan would require way more calories than the rest of us for their healing factors to be able to create new tissue on the spot. Craziest thing about this final battle is that it is between TWO nerfed versions of Wolverine. Wolverine has shown that he is faster, stronger, and capable of healing from far more grievous injuries all at once throughout the franchise and that includes adamantium bullets to the head. Hell, it was even stated in Wolverine origins that the bullets canonically couldn't kill him, just scramble his brains and wipe his memories. Imagine what the fight would have been like if both of them had been equal to Logan at his peak? The fight would never had ended!

This was a great telling of a Wolverine story. One of the best superhero movies of all time. They gave us X-23 with a (sorta) Albert and I was praying eventually they would also give us a flick with Honey Badger and the rest of the Howlett clan in a Savage Land story. Throw in Wild Child, Sabertooth, Omega Red, a few other villains and some serious predators from the Savage Land and you have a great adventure fantasy movie. If Logan never had the metal grafted into his body, he’d probably be able to move mostly normally when Charles is having his psychic seizures. Logan (and to an extent Laura) can move better than most during those scenes because their brains are healing from the damage at a constant rate, Logan’s is slower now because he’s aged from adamantium poisoning

The movie they're watching in the motel is an old Western called 'Shane' 1953. Logan, in some ways, is an homage to Shane following the main themes but the movie also stands as heavy foreshadowing for the final act of the film. So for an explanation over why he lost his healing power (if you haven't already deduced it - I haven't watched much into the reaction yet) Basically, Logans original mutant genes have been 'replaced', as every time he heals, more genes overwrite the ones he was born with, which lessens his healing factor. And the adamantium metal in his body was taking its toll on him, as his healing factor no longer had the means to keep up with the poisoning.

Striker’s (with Essex Corp.)son also put genetic modifications in the food that the whole world was eating to snuff out mutant genome and degenerate the existing ones. This also takes a toll on Logan’s healing ability.

It's not just every time he heals. The government put a genetically modified corn syrup that would lessen mutant abilities the more they ate it. Since corn syrup is in everything, it's virtually impossible (in the US anyway) to steer clear of it. That's what caused his healing factor to diminish over time. Correct on the adamantium, though.

Umm, no, thats not it. You got only part with his skeleton additionally poisoning him when he starts to lose his powers right, but this isnt why he loses his healing in the first place (remember, he lived for over 200 years). Essex corp which are the bad guys were putting mutant power supressing elements into food to depower mutants across the globe. Its totally in the background during the movie, but all the info is there if you want to know what it was. Its what gradually stops Logans healing and his healing factor was what helped to keep his adamantium skeleton poisoning at bay constantly, so he also starts immedieately dying when losing his powers solely due to his semi-radioactive skeleton? (He survived Hiroshima after all, but that is just my theory at this point, cant remember if it was confirmed in the movies)

IDK if someone said this yet. But if you remember, the seen in "The Wolverine" were the girl could see the future, telling Logan that "he would die with his heart in his hand." Before @deckzone3000 chimes in here to argue with you about this topic, YES. Mangold himself said that Yukio's line thematically foreshadowed this moment. And while Logan technically flat-lined in The Wolverine, he didn't DIE die. So when idiots start arguing with you about this point, just know that they're self-righteous gate-keepers who don't understand poetry, deeper context, or symbolism.

“I saw you die, holding your own heart in your hands.” He did. This movie was also incredibly meta when you look at the time it came out. Aside from Deadpool, the X-Men franchise was pretty much dead. The timeline was a mess and the soft reboot with a new cast wasn’t really working out anymore. So the whole thing in this movie about there not being any more mutants felt like a very meta way of saying “we know the franchise is running out of steam, so let’s have one last hurrah to send it off.”

Just a note, as someone who is living through it. When big companies come into small towns the first offers are generous, and made to the richest men who own the biggest swathes of land. They make bank, then the ground is torn up, thousands of animals are displaced onto the roads and into peoples homes. Car accidents happen every morning as the roads that barely held a small town now have to serve 8000 new employees at the factory every day. From there they make crap offers to the small people who own enough land to put their homes on. Imagine that you were born onto a piece of land. Watched your grandfather bleed life into it every single day under the beating sun. Children are born and people die on that land for generations. Then all the roads get clogged, business starts going under for everyone who isn't a national corporation. They destroy everything that was once your home and then offer you a pittance so they can do it to the land your family worked and died on. Not even enough to move and live for even a year. I bet when they run out of land to destroy, they'll start building on top of us, layering society the way they want it. Rich on top and poor on bottom. That's why we tell them to fuck off.

At the end of X-Men Apocalypse, when the organization is vacuuming up Stryker's base, you see a bunch of vials put in a briefcase marked ESSEXX, and that is the lead-in to this movie. They cloned Wolverine for Project X and Laura.

2:20 think this movie is based off the comic "Old Man Logan" but what happens is, beyond a TON of tragedy since Professor X has begins to have dementia (i think) he accidentally mercs almost every mutant and not many have been born since.. its truly sad. Logan has been around for at least 200 some years at this point. and due to his Adamantium skeleton, which has been slowly poisoning him over the years, fast tracked his demise due to the healing factor slowing down as he gets older.. it was the 2nd saddest movies in terms of comic book movies i've seen. First being the Infinity Wars in MCU where Tom Holland's Spiderman turns to dust in Tony Starks arms, saying he feels weird and he's not ready to go... that was so gut wrenching. especially when the title card reads "5 years later"

I never really picked up on this until now, but the hat that Charles Xavier picks out could be a nod to Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto..seeing as how it is the same type of hat that he was known to were throughout the X-Men movies. It was probably a subconscious way of him holding onto a "dear old friend".

Logan is an interesting example of just because you're not being shot at doesn't mean you're not at War head bad guy says something in exposition Akin to putting certain additives in the food and water supply that would affect the powers of mutants essentially chemical genocide.

I remember watching this when it came out. And around the time when professor X dies , the theaters lights came on and they paused the movie. Then medics came in because legit someone a few seats behind me was having a heart attack. 🤣 it was funny because the guy was begging the medics to stay an finish the movie. He was arguing with his wife saying that if he dies without finishing the movie that he will be pissed. And then the movie theater gave everyone a free drink and bathroom break and played back the movie like 30 minutes before where it stopped 🤣. I checked a day later and the guy who had the heart attack is fine and he went back to finish the movie by himself this time.

38:07 So I actually had to watch this a couple times to understand why there were no more mutants. It wasn’t just the Adamantium that was poisoning him. Those corn farms were laced with an anti-mutant agent. Another great example of how real word events (overuse of corn syrup in food) are tied to the Xmen.

If I remember correctly, they hint in the film that they put some funky corn syrup in most of the food and drink that uses sweetners to suppress mutant genes in the population, meaning not new natural mutants and the current mutants powers are heavily affected, Logan is slowly being killed by is metal bones and it could possibly be what is triggering Charles's seizures or even what gave him the brain disease in the first place, since he's a telepath

The movie they're watching in the hotel btw, is The Magnificent Seven, it's a great western that is based on one of the greatest movies of all time(imo), by one of the greatest director's of all time, it's based on Seven Samurai, which was directed by Akira Kurosawa.
