This video feels so perfect. Not only does it add all these new characters, stages, music, updated adventure mode, final smashes, assist trophies, and even changes to the characters themselves to melee, but it also keeps melee’s style and could even pass as official. There’s something about seeing things from banjo kazooie, sonic, or fantasy 7 in the melee style that just feels so magical. Its like a gamer’s ultimate fantasy

Super fun! I think the single most interesting "what-if" that would've really changed Nintendo’s trajectory would be if they bought Rare and put Banjo in Melee. One of Nintendo biggest weaknesses since the Gamecube has been lack of Western output. Really wonder what sort of image Rare's continued collaboration would've done for them.

@@smashers6971 Nintendo disliking Conker is false tho. No idea why people keep saying this. Even in a behind the scenes video on Rare Replay, the devs behind Conker's Bad Fur Day stated that Nintendo were very on board with the project and were very lenient with its content. While on the topic of the video, and now that I think about it, Conker would've probably been a strong contender for this version of "Melee". The character was already decently iconic and well known, was promoted a lot by Nintendo since his debut in Diddy Kong Racing to his most recent entry at the time (that being Conker's BFD), and well, Rare was one of the biggest and most acclaimed studio developers coming from Nintendo during the era, so I do think two Rare reps for this version of the first Smash Bros title is kinda plausible.

This is amazing! I'm obsessed with the idea of what Melee could have been if it had more development time. One thought I always had is that with the development time this game would receive, considering that Marth is voice by the same actor as the Fire Emblem OVA, maybe over in the west he would get his English dub voice which was Spike Spencer.

One I've been wondering for a bit is "What if SEGA stayed consistent?" as a hypothetical situation where SEGA makes good internal decisions that ultimately benefit their reputation and IPs like Sonic. This would’ve been the greatest thing ever in video game history, and I can see many young kids or adults telling their friends who may not be into video games “This new Smash Bros Game has Sonic, Snake from Metal Gear Solid and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII and many more, you guys gotta check it out!” If I were to guess, this game would do double, triple or even more than the original Melee itself! They would’ve had more time to make Adventure Mode feel like you’re actually going through the other character’s universes, I loved that Shadow Moses section and the DKC Minecart too. Cloud is the most interesting one because Nintendo and Square created the masterpiece that is Super Mario RPG and who knows if people would still ask for Geno.

Rool, Krystal and maybe Conker getting for more Rare Reps, Bomberman, Simon, and maybe Goemon for Konami Reps, Tifa, Sephiroth or Zack as an echo of Cloud since I know Square would want to push FF7 more and Crisis Core being out around the time of Brawl’s development. For more Sega Reps maybe Aiai from Super Monkey Ball, Eggman, or NiGHTS. These are all just candidates, they don’t all have to necessarily be in, I’m just throwing out ideas for this “What if” Timeline.

9:45 Mish Koz in his Melee wario video brought over the fact that in our timeline Wario Land 4 released months earlier than melee due to melee being delayed, so in this timeline we could've probably seen Melee and Wario land releasing at a similar date, which could probably indicate that probably Wario's Castle would have the hurry up theme from WL4 when either all fighters remaining had just 1 stock left or when there's 1 minute left to fight, similar how mushroom kingdom and Mushroom kingdom 2 work in our timeline.

Definitely some interesting ideas here and it was a fun watch. Here are my ideas. - I personally don’t think Shadow would’ve gotten in and would’ve stayed an assist capsule. I definitely think the priority would’ve been simply getting Sonic rather than both unless Sega requested to add him with Sonic. Remember, Sonic appearing on a Nintendo platform would’ve been a huge deal back then. People wouldn’t be jaded to it like they are today - I really wonder if Cloud would’ve gotten in or if Square would’ve gotten in at all. Part of me feels like turn of the millennium Nintendo would’ve preferred to go with a protagonist that appeared on one of their consoles rather than one who didn’t. I feel Terra probably would’ve been added over Cloud as the Final Fantasy rep at this point and maybe Cloud would’ve joined in a later sequel. Additionally, part of me wonders if Square and Nintendo would even try to collaborate at this point or if tensions were still a bit too high - Part of me feels that Capcom would’ve been the third 3rd party company to be represented instead of Square considering Capcom still published games for the N64. I could see Mega Man being highly considered due to the franchise appearing on every Nintendo console up to that point. I definitely think he’s more likely than Cloud. Ryu also could’ve been considered, but I feel Mega Man would’ve been chosen over him - I think Isaac would’ve appeared as a character considering Golden Sun came out just before Melee did and it was a new Nintendo franchise. I doubt he was even thought of in our Melee’s development due to the hell that it was. However, I definitely could have seen it being considered with this much longer development time - Animal Crossing probably would’ve gotten representation in some way. Probably not a character. I still think Sakurai wouldn’t have seen the Villagers as fighters yet. However, it likely would’ve gotten a stage like it did in Brawl

Another character that showed up in the Melee Trailer that isn’t playable is… Samurai Goroh, (the part where Captain Falcon makes him crash) Jokes aside, it’s kinda interesting that Goroh was the only NPC that appeared in the Melee opening who still isn’t playable in the series yet while Wolf and Ridley eventually became playable. (Discounting all the Pokémon and the Runaway Five from Onett) Yes, I know he’s an AT but this is in general, not Ultimate DLC.

It's weird seeing that version of Bowser's Castle haha. That is the original design we were going to go for with PM, but then when I joined the team we got new concept art made and I revamped it to what is in PM 3.6 It's funny to see this version use a bunch of my assets, along with the older stuff, and some new things tossed in as well. Yeah! That version of Bowser's Castle was assets from StarWaffle if I recall correctly. DukeItOut and I and a few others worked on a version of it that appeared in Legacy TE, and this version was modified by CrashWaffleCat to mimick the N64 era better. Thanks for your comment man! Love the Ganondorf and Shadow movesets. Both of their respective franchises are due for more fighters. LOZ has 6 reps but half of them are link variants and then Ganondorf who is still trying to recover from being a Captain Falcon clone. It’s criminal how the sonic franchise has yet to get a 2nd rep. Tails, knuckles, shadow, and eggman are all right there. If there’s a smash 6 I hope those two franchises get more love.

Link would have also had a different side B. Sakurai said that the only reason Link had the boomerang in Smash 64 was because the development overlapped with OoT, and he didn’t know adult Link couldn’t use the boomerang. He said that he would have replaced it if he knew. That wouldn’t have been an issue in this timeline though. I’m guessing the boomerang would have been exclusive to Young Link. Normal Link may have ended up with a sword beam, as a reference to the classic games.

God, I love this video! I really like how all the characters and stages seem to fit in the style of melee so beautifully. If their was one thing I disagree with though, would be Sonic’s Moveset. I feel like he’d have attacks based of Sonic Battle and Sonic Adventure 2 like Shadow. The one thing I love about Smash is unlocking stuff, especially the characters and stages. I bet unlocking the characters especially would've been so much cooler in this timeline. If I were to guess who'd be unlockable, what I believe would be their unlock methods, as well as their unlock locations, it'd be: Dr. Mario: Complete Classic or Adventure as Mario without continues (just like in Melee). He'd be fought on Princess Peach's Castle like in Melee. Luigi: In Adventure Mode, in Mushroom Kingdom, reach the goal with the timer ending in a 2, then defeat Luigi and Peach in under a minute before completing the rest of Adventure Mode (like in Melee). He'd be fought on Subcon like in Melee. Wario: Complete Classic or Adventure on Hard or Higher as any Mario character. He'd be fought on Wario's Castle. Captain Falcon: Complete Classic or Adventure on Normal or higher in under 15 minutes. He'd be fought on Mute City. Ganondorf: Complete Event 29: Triforce Gathering (like in Melee). He'd be fought on Final Destination like in Melee. Wolf: Complete Event 23: Slippy's Invention. He'd be fought on Venom. Falco: Complete 100-Man Melee (like in Melee). He'd be fought on Corneria rather than Battlefield. Young Link: Complete Classic or Adventure with 10 different characters, including Zelda and/or Link (like in Melee). He'd be fought on Great Bay like in Melee. Pichu: Complete Event 37: Legendary Pokemon. It'd be fought on Pokemon Stadium like in Melee. Jigglypuff: Complete Classic or Adventure as any character. It'd be fought on Pokemon Stadium like in Melee. Mewtwo: Play a VS. match for a combined total of 20 hours. It'd be fought on Final Destination like in Melee. All of the third-party characters would be unlockable like how Snake and Sonic were unlockable in Brawl. Banjo & Kazooie: Complete Classic or Adventure as Diddy Kong or Normal or Higher. They'd be fought on Spiral Mountain. Snake: Play 15 matches on Shadow Moses Island (like in Brawl). He'd be fought on Shadow Moses Island like in Brawl. Cloud: Complete 3-Minute Melee. He'd be fought on Midgar like in Ultimate. Sonic: Earn 1 KO in Cruel Melee (a mixture of Duck Hunt's unlock from Wii U, as well as the Sonic & Tails in Melee hoax). He'd be fought on Green Hill Zone like in Brawl. Shadow: Complete Classic or Adventure as Sonic without using any continues. He'd be fought on Crazy Gadget. Boy, this took a little while to type, but it was worth it. Again, unlocking stuff is what makes it part of the fun in Smash.

This is so meticuously well thought out it makes me wanna visit this blessed timeline, its like a Smash Remix sequel. All the alternate movesets and characer animation are really good, Ganondorf especially, even if I have my own ideas for certain character moves. I'd like to suggest a video where you show, "What if Melee had gotten a Deluxe Edition on the Gamecube". It would be an expansion of the game replacing Kirby's Air Ride as it exists in our timeline, and in addition to some of the standard characters that we know could very nearly have made Melee's roster like Wario, Dedede, Meta Knight, Diddy, Sonic, Snake etc, it could also have some relevant picks from the early Gamecube/GBA days rather than Melee's mostly backwards-facing roster. Franchises like Golden Sun and Advance Wars would have been at their peak, and we'd get a chance to see what a Gen 3 rep in Melee would have looked like!

This is a great video, but I think one more 3rd party character would be great, which is Bomberman. The reason why is since Hudson had been making mario partys 1-3, and those were very successful, so at the time, they were in a great relationship, so adding bombemran to melee by request of Hudson could happen (just like yuji Naka wanted sonic in melee). This is just an idea, since I would saw him as more likely than Cloud strife.

It's a good point to raise, but honestly Luigi's voice was all over the place. In Mario Tennis for example, it's much lower pitched. In Mario Party, it's higher pitched. But these clips are from pre-2001 Luigi.

Now, this also changes Brawl's trajectory altogether since this game had almost little to no crunch ir something that close to this timeline's melee development hell, so sakurai was at better terms with Nintendo and Hal making him convinving to return to develop brawl a lot easier when Satoru iwata finally stepped up as president of Nintendo, having a little bit more dveelopment time for brawl especially considering that Sonic and Snake's negotiations would a lot easier to begin with. Sone characters of GC's Smash bros would be cut and some will receive changes but but i believe cutt characters from our timeline's brawl like Geno, Bowser Jr, Dixie kong or the miis would probably be included.

This video is amazing. It would be crazy to have this version of Melee. I love the ideas in this, though I did have a few thoughts. - I feel like Shadow would have more moves from Sonic to make him more of a semi-clone. The Legacy XP moveset for him is nice, but I think he’d have more moves from Sonic like Forward Air, Back Air, and a few other moves. - A fully decloned Ganon would be amazing, but I feel like he would still use some stuff from Falcon. Like maybe his dash attack could still be Falcon’s but edited to where he’s still floating while doing the shoulder bash. - I’m not sure if they’d include stuff like DK’s aerial Down B, Samus’s Ice Beam, or Kirby’s grounded Down B. Maybe Kirby’s slide could be made into a down tilt. - If this version of Melee did exist in our timeline with no other changes to other games, I’m not sure if they’d add Lucas since Earthbound 64 would be canceled. Maybe Ayumi could be added as a Zelda semi-clone similar to the 6 months video to replace Lucas if Earthbound 64 was still canceled. - Just a thought, but looking at the “If there was a Smash 2” poll, Crash Bandicoot was a popular request for 3rd Parties, even being higher than Sonic and Megaman. So I wonder if Shadow was kept as an assist trophy, would Sakurai would talk to Universal Interactive about possibly adding Crash to Smash. Sorry for the long comment. Still a really amazing video. Would absolutely love to see a sequel video for Brawl in this hypothetical timeline.

Pretty neat idea, would've loved to play this version Melee as a kid especially with the inclusion of Sonic and Shadow (considering just how much I played the version of Melee we did get as well as the classic Sonic games and both the Sonic Adventure games as a kid). Do gotta say though, only 5 3rd party characters with no Megaman series representation feels a bit odd, then again the licensing nightmare that would come with even more 3rd party representation I guess would somewhat limit just how much they'd be able to get away with in that department...

This is probably the most interesting video idea you have ever did. Hypothetically I think maybe Ridley being a playable character this early is the most unrealistic part about it but I do love the idea regardless considering that I think he was actually nice in Smash Ultimate. I also like that you didn’t have Dedede use his jet hammer as his down B as he wouldn’t have had any reference to that at the time since it was an idea that was in the cancelled Kirby game for the GCN in 2005, which was then reused in Superstar Ultra.

@@davidvkimball that is true. I remember how big the pop he got when I saw the reaction. It’s just that it took Sakurai 3 games after Melee to finally make him playable, which is why he became a boss fight in Brawl and a in stage boss in Smash 4. Though with Melee, I am sure that maybe Sakurai would of had a different philosophy then what he had in Brawl and Smash 4. Regardless, I am glad to see our favorite murderous purple space dragon of hell.
