@@doomusrlc I didn't think so. Mikey had a somewhat weak start to 2002, but had waves of finishes near the front of the pack through the season. I wonder what 2003 would have been not he suffered that wreck at Bristol which led to a freefall in the points. To me, the most surprising part is how either Rusty Wallace missed it altogether or Jeff Gordon had an abysmal round 2.

Definitely cool to take a look at the NASCAR seasons if they had playoffs. I wanna suggest again that once this series is done, it'd be cool to see the formula flipped, and see how seasons would have ended during the Chase/Playoff era if they still had the classic points championship system (maybe not the one where points per race were all over the place, but I believe there are places that have the old points for each finishing position, and it could include the 5 bonus points for leading a lap or leading the most laps).

@@JackCallSports also I agree with you comment about the drivers that won a race in the cup series for 2001. I literally looked on racing reference.com and it said for 2001 Winston cup series, it showed that 19 drivers won at least one race in 2001, but 2-3 of them won one race of the final 10 races. so the 2001 episode of what if nascar had playoffs in 2001 should be interesting and insane and most likely wild. I'm honestly really excited for it.

Have you ever considered doing a "What If" series in reverse? By reverse, I mean how the 2004 - 2019 seasons would have played out under the pre-Chase points system. IE The Winston Cup Points System. I do enjoy these videos talking about if the playoffs had been around in previous seasons, so a series of if Brian France never came up with the Chase would be very interesting to see how the season would play out.

2001 was a great season until a horrible summer. He and Gordon were neck and neck for much of the first half of the season, leaving races tied at the top 2 or 3 times. But he had a very rough summer run and never recovered (despite nearly winning Msrtinsville in the fall). 2002, the cracks really started to show but still was a solid year. 2003 however... yikes.
