even if she was a fragment of the Unknown God, Paimon seems too close to us to be able to betray us. it'd be hard to justify "she's been lying to us the whole time" in a way that's cohesive, especially when she's been with us for so long and through so much. i genuinely didn't expect Paimon would be so distraught in that one part of Sabzeruz Festival quest, it surprised me then again Celestia is still so far away, and there's already hints of Paimon being "not what she seems". a lot of lore could drop at any moment given Genshin's worldbuilding method, but i really do hope the Traveler doesn't stand alone at the final part of their journey. what's a Traveler without their Ultimate Traveling Companion, after all?

@@anchovieduce My guess is that while Paimon ISN'T the Unknown God, she knows her personally (and DOESN'T like her). To further elaborate, I personally believe that she USED to be a member of Celestia, and quite possibly the only one who actually thought "We're the gods of this world, we should act like it." I would expect that she didn't like the overthrowing of The Seven Sovereigns (If she was there to see it happen) or Archon War (Which to me feels less like it was actually necessary and more just a ploy to bring the numbers of archons down to something that they could easily control), although she likely didn't fully voice her feelings about those events. The Cataclysm, the lack of response to it until things got WAY out of hand, and how it was quelled (By somehow forcing the Archons to completely destroy Khaenri'ah, I'm not entirely sure how it was done, but it could've very well been effectively hijacking their wills), however was likely the last straw for Paimon, and she finally confronted the other members of Celestia. I don't know if it came to blows, or it was just verbal, but the others, including the Unknown God, decided that for the "Crime" of "Acting Below her Station" Paimon was to have her powers and authority over whatever she was the god of revoked, and banished to the surface world with a small, frail body until she "sees the error of her ways" or whatever. And after some time in the mortal world she met The Traveler and started hanging out with them. TL;DR: Paimon was once a member of Celestia, but she was turned into the squeaky-voiced pseudo-fairy we all know and call "Emergency Food" by the other members, including the Unknown God, and kicked out for being nice.
