What If Planet 9 Doesn't Exist? 4 Alternative Theories

For decades, the Planet Nine hypothesis has captured the imagination of astronomers and the general public. This hypothesis suggests the existence of a giant planet, about the diameter of Neptune, that has never been observed and could be in a distant orbit from the Sun beyond Neptune.
The existence of a ninth planet arises to explain certain anomalies observed in the orbits of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs), particularly in the Kuiper Belt.
However, despite the observations and theoretical models that support its existence, no other planet has yet been detected beyond Neptune's orbit. Not even the most powerful telescopes we have today, such as Hubble and James Webb, or astronomical observatories worldwide, have been able to observe this planet at any time.
This apparent contradiction between the measurements and the lack of evidence for a ninth planet has led many astronomers around the world to ask the most important question.
Could it be that Planet 9 does not exist?
What if all the gravitational anomalies of Kuiper belt objects are due to other previously unknown phenomena?
It turns out that several theories could explain the gravitational anomalies of the Kuiper Belt without the existence of a ninth planet. Do you want to know what they are?
Join us to discover it!
Planet Nine Hypothesis
First, why was the hypothesis that a ninth planet was raised?
The idea that a ninth planet existed beyond Neptune gained prominence in 2016 when astronomers Konstantin Batygin and Michael E. Brown of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) published a paper in the Astronomical Journal suggesting the existence of a planet with a mass about ten times that of Earth and a very eccentric and distant orbit.
T
Are we looking for Vulcan 2?
The story of Vulcan is the best example we have of what could be happening to Planet 9. This is a fascinating chapter in nineteenth-century astronomy, reflecting the challenges and errors in the quest to understand the solar system.
Theory 1. Collective Disturbances of Multiple Objects
This theory suggests that anomalies in the orbits of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) could be explained by the combined gravitational interactions of many small bodies in the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud rather than a single massive planet, such as the hypothetical Planet Nine.
Theory 2. Influence of the Galaxy and Tidal Forces
This theory proposes that the gravitational influence of the Milky Way can explain anomalies in the orbits of objects (TNOs).
Theory 3. Effects of a Disk of Matter on the Outer Solar System
Another possibility is that a disk of dense, massive material in the outer solar system may influence the orbits of TNOs.
Theory 4. Small Planet or Dwarf Planet Hypothesis
A variation of the Planet Nine theory is that instead of a giant planet, there could be a minor planet or a series of dwarf planets beyond Neptune that could be causing the perturbations.

Is it possible that "Planet 9" was ejected from the solar system long ago? many millions/billions of tears? with what we are seeing as the effects that are left over from the "Planet 9" having been here. Does "Planet 9" still have to be in the solar system to have the effects we are seeing currently?

Yes , but its like with Dyson sphers emitts infrared light until they find out they dont need to emitt infrared light and are thus not visible for us ." They" push agenda like this since it fits them or benefit from them ( there is recennty development on infra red solarpanels).- Anton Petrov has a video on a star that came close to the sun 70 000 years ago and could have ejected Planet 9 or sent it hurtling toward us or it could been crashed into that star or its planets . Question is how long would it take to the rest of the objects in kuipers belt or ort cloud to resume their own made orbits without the influence of planet 9 if it maybe were ejected long before that -millions of years ago

Not really. Imagine if the sun suddenly disappeared, will earth remain in its current orbit for millions or billions of years? Once the space-time distortion (existence of the sun or the 9th planet) is gone, surrounding objects will need to settle into a new stable orbit and we won't be able to observe those "anomalies".

people are mixing up a couple of things. the planet 10 hypothesis has based on the perturbations in the orbits of existing planets, which lead to the discovery of Pluto, which did not have the mass needed. recent reanalysis of the original data shows that one idiot observer recalibrated his equipment mid run of observations, and when you remove his data the need for planet 10 disappears, just like vulcan. this planet is often referred to as persephone. the planet 9 hypothesis refers to different effects purturbing a number of pluto type bodies in the outer solar system, and has nothing to do with planet 10, as described in the video, and as the video points out is one of a number of different explanations for this effect which we don't have enough data to find the cause. the other thing people are confusing is known as nemesis, and is thought to be some kind of multi jupiter mass body with an orbit of over 1000 years. no firm conclusions exist about this yet either.

Criteria for being a planet: 1) Must orbit the Sun✅ 2) Must have sufficient gravity to force yourself into a spherical or round shape✅ 3) Must have cleared your orbit of other objects❌ Pluto meets the first two but fails to meet the last therefore, Pluto’s not a planet according to our current classifications. I like this topic. I feel like we can be excited about spending time looking for intelligent life on other planets. I say this with the utmost respect and I hope that one day we will be proven right. However, currently, the only evidence of intelligent life that we know of in the Universe and that is us. We have come so far in such a short period of time and I truly believe it will take us some time to find another form of intelligent life, equal or better than ours. Of course, this is based on the fact that we only get to see the rest of the universe for a very short period of time. Taking into account the age of the universe and the incredible global events that have occurred over the past few billion years, I would say that intelligent life will be very rare in the universe. However, I strongly believe that complex life forms certainly exist and are probably abundant.

I wonder if the issue is a situation of limited data. Is the alignment real, or just a matter of too few data points? Does the evidence even support the possibility of a ninth planet? That issue aside: if the ninth planet does exist and is discovered, will that force the IAU to reconsider the current definition of planet or offer a near confirmation of the definition?
@InsaneCuriosity
@InsaneCuriosity 12 күн бұрын
Great questions! The alignment could be due to limited data, and more observations are needed to confirm any theories. If Planet 9 is found, it might lead to discussions about the definition of a planet. The IAU would have to consider new evidence, which could either reinforce or change the current criteria.

I am nowhere close to having sufficient astronomical knowledge as good as even this video's producer, let alone those Caltech people. Nevertheless, if we just go by simply logic, what is now observed is that those clustered dwarf planets are in the way they are, because there is something of similar mass at where Planet 9 (P9) is proposed to be. The alternative theories are that instead of a massive P9, it's instead a few other clustered dwarfs or a disc that add up to the same mass that caused it. At the end of the day, if something as massive as P9 at that distance is too far to be observed by modern day technology, it's even harder for something smaller to be seen. In the end, I would just conclude this way - the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence, but equally, just because there is an absence of evidence to show something exists doesn't mean it definitely exists (i.e. there are many possibilities out there).

If Pluto’s a planet then Eris, Makemake, Ceres, Quaoar, Sedna, Haumea, Vesta, Pallas, Hygiea, Orcus, 2002 AW 197, Ixion, Varuna, 2002 TX 300, 2002 TC 302 plus tons more would all have to be planets too. So our solar system would have 200+ planets instead of the smaller number of eight. 🙂👍🏾

I find it hilarious that the same people who vehemently believe in aliens are the same ones who will challenge the findings of two very qualified scientist the existence of the 9th planet 😅😅😅

Pluto is planet nine! The IAU doesn’t have any real authority to declare Pluto is not a planet. If I were president I would withhold all USA funding for them!
