What if Prussia annexed the Austrian Empire following the Austro-Prussian war?

Was inspired to make this alternate history video after seeing the question in a Monsieur Z comment section. Sorry about some of the maps being quite crude, its the first time I've really tried making custom maps.

@@Chosen_Ashhell the fuck no, it was German decision making that lost them the battle of the Marne, and Britain’s divisions in that battle were a speck compared to France, overall Britain barely had a couple hundred thousand troops in France by the end of the year, the only difference would be France wouldn’t be able to enforce a blockade nearly as effective as Britain did on Germany without access to the North Sea

Why? Look at how Russia annexed lands far less industrialized and a lot more culturally distinct (Central Asia or the Caucasus) with greater size. The lingua franca in the Austrian empire was already German. If they would have given for example the Jews in Galicia and the Hungarians a special treatment they could have surpressed the other minorities fairly easy

I would have been fine with prussia annexing the german speaking lands of austria proper, maybe even bohemia and slovakia, but the WHOLE empire? Including the vast hungarian, polish and other ethnic territories? That is simply not possible in any way, not even remotely.

@@y.r._ why is not possible although the annexed Land had some industry the German lands of the empire were a lot wealthier and therefore had the power to rule, let alone the military superiority. In addition to that a German nation (Austria) was already ruling all the minorities you mentioned. Therefore the German rulers would just increase and now make up about 60-70% of the newly formed empire. We could see a massive increasement of settlements in the east and south east as the Austrians already tried but never had quite the amount of settlers to fully accomplish their goal of germanizing the land. With that being said and in account of the incredible German leader in Bismarck I think this would have been possible at that time

great video but theres somethnig that i cant help myself but point out, you referanced ypur map around 1850s, and when it came to the alternate great war you still used the same map (minus the super germany, ofc) but theres no way the ottoman empire could hold their grasp on their balkan posessions till ww1 (even in this alternate timeline)

Germans giving up access to the Adriatic is very unlikely though.They might give Dalmatia as an exclave to Italy to fuck with the Croats and keep the Slavs occupied resisting against Italy but having major ports in Istria / Triëste would make trade and naval reach much greater. Certainly would allow them to control Italy much better, or force the the British Navy to have to blockade two locations to cut the off.

Russia would demand Galicia, Posen, and East and West Prussia for Poland and support the so called independence of Hungary and the Bohemia. For Bohemia it would also demand Silesia. It would support Denmark in Schleswig-Holstein, Italy in Lombardy, Venice, Istria, Tridento, and Dalmatia, and France with its border on the Rhine. In other words, Germany would include only Austria as it is today.
