Honestly I kinda wish this was canon, I always thought Raditz was such a wasted character. He's Goku's BROTHER. He introduced us to the idea of Saiyans and Goku being an alien, and he's just killed off, never mentioned again. You're telling me Goku wouldn't want to know his brother? Vegeta wouldn't want another Saiyan around to keep Saiyan lineage alive?

We need to start a petition to have Masako X on the the DBZ: XV3 parallel quest writing team. I'd love if after you create your character you could play through with Raditz being the hero in a parallel timeline having to defend against Vegeta as the initial threat, only for Goku to take over Vegeta's spot. Then follow through early Dragonball where Goku goes SSJ.1, but has to be brought down because his anger took over after Krillin's death. I can almost see the possibilities in play.

Raditz wouldn't show up in the movies until Cooler's Revenge. For Garlic Jr, he hadn't arrived on Earth yet, and for the World's Strongest, Tree of Might and Lord Slug movies, he was dead on King Kai's world. I wouldn't rule out a brief cameo in Tree of Might/Lord Slug when King Kai is talking to Goku though, maybe giving more background on the respective antagonists or just trying to smash Gregory

Then the concept of super saiyan becomes irrelevant, as now every single character would have access to absurd power multipliers. Realistically speaking, Piccolo would likely become the strongest character in Z. Piccolo with kaioken would be basically unstoppable. His regenerative abilities would allow him to push its limits far beyond what the others could risk. Combine that with Piccolo having the strongest base form power of any of the main cast, and you've got something pretty nuts. We are shown that simple training can allow the user to handle higher multipliers with kaioken as well, so technically speaking it has a much, much higher potential than super saiyan ever did.

If we get a triple fusion we likely won't need Ultimate Gohan. Like he'll come down and SS3 Goten/Trunks/Ranch would have already killed Super Buu. Gotenks was about even, it stands to reason that being 33% stronger would result in a curbstomp

Yes there is. Gotenks was also stronger, but lost. The reason was his character, that is why the triple fusion won't win either and one of the reasons why ultimate Gohan is a thing. Also Shin doesn't know about the Fusion plan, so he will Gohan train either way which will result in him getting his potential unlocked

The reason why Gotenks didn't win was because Trunks and Goten are far too childish and immature at this point in the series. Now, if you throw Ranch into the mix it stands to reason that she could bring a bit of maturity and level headedness to the fusion. It is entirely possible that they could actually defeat Super Buu in the Room of Spirit and Time; but for story purposes I am betting think that they obliterated them but missed a tiny part and just as they realize it the fusion ends or they get absorbed.

Capitan Spoiler What would be their reasoning? Goku was never fond of the saiyans or the idea of being a saiyan, and Vegeta only clings to his saiyan heritage as his birthright. I mean if he actually cared about the saiyans as a whole, he wouldn't've shrugged off Raditz's death, killed Nappa, or tried to kill Goku. They'd need a good reason since they would be a threat to several worlds, including Earth potentially.

Hmm. Overall a pretty good installment :) I am glad that Trunks didn't win the tournament and I am hoping that because Trunks has hung out more with Ranch that Goten will have had a bit more time to become his own character over just following Trunks and doing what he wants to do. I am glad that you addressed the Vegeta & Radditz rivalry and that he chose to fight him over Goku and I think that is how it would have gone down as well. (Personally I don't know if I would have had Goku step in and save him in time, but this is your story :P He could have still figured if he killed Radditz once Buu hit 'otherworld', until then Radditz would have not been doing much I guess, though.) I am interested to see how this progresses and seeing how everyone figures in here. I would really like to see a Goku/Radditz fusion as I think that Radditz could swallow his pride a lot easier than Vegeta and with the zenkai boost that radditz gets (that Goku does not during the fight with Majin Vegeta) he would be closer to Goku's strength. Really find that after watching Dragonball for nearly 20 years of my life, this is really fun to speculate! Keep up the great work Masako :D

I think Trunks beating Goten was one of the better aspects of the Buu saga, because it shows that someone from the "Son" family wasn't necessarily always the best (I love Goten, don't get me wrong, but it would've been far too cliched for the "son of Goku" to surpass the "son of Vegeta").

Awkward Penguin watching this scene, since Goten beat her cousin, I could imagine Hercule getting real scared but tries to reason with him in a similar way Trunks in canon but way more cute and funny, Goten would ask if its true he's videl's father? he wonders how he knows her, to which he would say she invited his brother and family to come, and goes so far as to wave to Videl and thank her, making her blush as all eyes went on her. Goten takes Hercule's advice and does a similar. 'nudge' but gently, though this still makes hercule fly out.

I think I would say "what if Nappa turned lackey?" rather than "good." I think he could continue in the story and work alongside Goku, but I think his road to redemption would be a lot harder than Vegeta's was. Still, what if Nappa survived instead of/as well as Vegeta is something I have wanted to see from Masako for a while now.

You know, the more I learn about the Saiyans, about their personalities and stuff, and about Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta, the more I think that any normal Saiyan could 'turn good' given time and effort due to Vegeta's example. You see, Vegeta to me is like the extreme Saiyan. He was the least likely to become good out of everyone else. He was ruthless, vengeful, proud, reckless, egotistical and narcissistic to a degree. Nappa and Raditz had some of these traits, yes, but they weren't as prominent as they were in Vegeta's case. There is a video out there (I could only find it in Spanish kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYjNipuIiLqVpKs) that sort of proves what I'm saying. In it, Nappa talks to Vegeta about him speculating that their planet wasn't destroyed by some random ass meteorites, but by their boss Frieza himself. Raditz in disbelief questions the statement, showing some sort of care about his people. Vegeta on the other hand disregards all that and tells them that he doesn't care and never cared for that, not for his planet or for his people, or even his father; he only cares about power. Naturally, the other 2 are baffled by what he just said, as if Vegeta was some sort of sociopath that gave no fucks about anyone but himself. All of that plus some other things we can speculate leads me to believe that Raditz and Nappa could've fairly reasonably within the story been brought back and used as prominent characters in the show beyond their first appearances.

I am familiar with the clip, the way I rationalise it is that Vegeta needs to convince himself that he doesn't care because if he admitted to himself the extent that he truly did care he would go mad, get himself killed and never be able to get vengence on Frieza. Also, to clarify, I do think that Nappa could turn good, I just don't think it would happen as quickly/easily for him as it would for either Raditz or Vegeta. Part of what makes me think this is that, while Vegeta is perfectly happy to kill innocents and mock enemies who were once stronger than him, he still does it relatively quickly. Nappa on the other hand delights in causing pain.

Ranch, Goten, and Trunks getting to do the 3-man fusion would be the best option in this what if. Still allowing each of the three to be able to fuse to give them more fighting time is a good idea too. When they face Buu though, they could do a job on him at first if they all fuse at the same. Yet, knowing the way dragon ball works, they'd only do it as a final shot if none of the two-way fusions don't kill him. I'd still think of Ranch as the strongest of the three. With her being the strongest only because Raditz would be around to train her (unlike Goku to Gohan/Goten) and would be more willing to train with her (unlike Vegeta to Trunks). That and the fact she unlike Goten and Trunks, wants to be a fighter rather than fighting for fun. Her progress of getting stronger would eventually out-shine Goten but, Trunks out of attraction would keep up to only be by her side. Gohan could very well still have his Potential unleashed by Elder Kai here. Shin would fine interest in him and still apply that thought to train him, like in the original anime & manga. Still he's A LOT stronger than he would be in the OG works. I'd say even if he stopped training he'd still be only as powerful as the Gohan in the OG Cell arc. With that as a base, plus being coaxed into fighting by his Uncle every now and then. He'd still grow more seasoned, only by a little. If he still has access to SSJ2 in this "What If" he should be more of a match for Buu than MasakoX suggests, only slightly weaker and with Buu having infinite stamina here. Should Buu and Gohan fight, Buu would very well outlast him and beat him. Winning with Shin saving him in the end like he does in the anime. When Gohan does get his power unleashed, he's way more stronger than he was in the anime. So much so, it could cause the story to deviate and allow Gohan to kill Super Buu on the first meeting. However, with Raditz and Gohan both, this would be a definite thing to occur. I'm playing with the thought of Goku taking a visit to the HTC with Raditz to give him some pointers to unlock SSJ3. Yet, this could be done on Kami's Lookout when the saiyan trio (Ranch, Trunks and Goten), are shown the form anyway, so there's no need. With this, Goten and Trunks would go in as planned, while Ranch goes in with either Piccolo or Raditz. So the actual goal they'd(Raditz and Ranch) have is to build her to achieve SSJ2 and Raditz to get closer to SSJ3. Once this happens, She'd train with Trunks and Goten to get them stronger and to gain synergy. Then it's just wait of the three to learn fusion and finally fight Buu.

Please let Trunks fuse with Ranch! Maybe could you do a little split part where you tell the story with Goten fusing with Trunks as normal and then the story with Ranch fusing with Trunks. Suggestion: And if Ranch was the one fusing or not... Then after Super Buu absorbed the "Trunch/Rannks" fusion Raditz gets pissed and gets to fuse with Goku instead of Vegeta. Or (in the case of the other option) after the normal Gotenks fusion gets absorbed Ranch gets extremely angry at the lose of her best friends/sparing buddies and she rushes at Buu and after a small bit of back and forth Buu gets the jump on her and absorbs her too, then Raditz will still get pissed and gets to fuse with Goku instead of Vegeta.

Today is the first time I actually found this series. I binge watched the whole thing because since Budokai Tenkaichi 3 I've always loved the idea behind this concept and having Raditz go the way of Piccolo and Vegeta. Masako's painstaking attention to the details of the story and how Raditz being there would shape things was a wonderful romp. I myself am not a fan of AUs? But I'm a big fan of this.
