Personally, part of me was rooting for him to be king. Stannis is great, but his inflexibility and stubbornness would make him very difficult to deal with in many situations a king would be involved in. Renly, by contrast, probably knew the game a lot better than his elder sibling :)

Robert was the Steel that was great at war but not in peace. Stannis was the Iron that was unbending to the whim of other petty lords and vices but was too inflexible to changes that could snap him. Renly was the Copper pretty on the outside but useless when it comes to things.

He does appear to be a puppet of the Tyrells but thats because he needed their support to take King's landing and thus had to give into their demands. In reality the second his rule was secure he'd be the exact kind of king who could have pushed back that sense of control. He also had time where being at disadvantage didnt matter. Unless Margery got pregnant with his child and thus there was a baratheon heir on the way Margery could control, (which for reasons would be hard) the Tyrells influence was good for them but not enough to supplant Renly. That gave him years or even decades to claw back control he gave up for Tyell support.

after renly becomes king this is extremely inaccurate. Their is no way he’s just going to throw events and celebrate while the common folk starve. He already knew the debt the crown was in and now he has the tyrells basically controlling him. No way Olenna or Margery will just sit back and wait for the people to turn on them. And the lannisters would also be stripped of everything. Gaining their favor doesnt make sense in the slightest, they lost and its the entirety of westeros against them minus the ironborn

I always like these kind of thought experiments. Renly is actually a dead man walking in the series. He is murdered before he can do anything important. But if you accept that by some miracle he survives Melisandres shadow demon attack unharmed, then a lot will change. Renly will know that Stannis is behind the attack and even if Renly dows not attack his brother outrigt, Stannis will return to Dragonstone without any much support. Renly with the Tyrells in tow will then make the proposed alliance with Rob Stark and they will most likely crush the Lannisters between them. Now, Tywinn might do something clever, but i guess that even a genius like him wont succeed against such overwhelming odds. The best scenario the Lannisters can hope for is some sort of honorable defeat, if they accept Renlys succession early. I am alway wondering why you put so much effort into bringing the high sparrow in. Without Cerseis support this man will never rise to any significant position of power, especially if the capital is quickly taken by a Renly/Tyrell/Stark alliance.
