@wawa8408 having mutual objectives doesn't make you a team. They had no alliance and did not actively defend each other. They were simply two entities that had similar goals for a short period of time. Russians didn't come to German defense, Germans did not come to Russian defense. Being friendly isn't being an ally.

Soviets already had an army ready to fight Japan and were aware of all Japanese plans due some of their most skilled espionage agents. There is some information about that to be found, an agent caught that unraveled all plans of Germany and Japan. Japan couldn't split their war effort against the allied forces in Asia (India, Australia, Britain, America and even some Dutch ships wreaking havoc) and also the soviets. Not the resources, not solid control of their newly gained territories that they had to defend from all sides and not the manpower for it. Also don't forget the many Chinese insurgents and a small army that attacked from India.

There's no way any possible alliance between those two would last. Their ideological differences were too much to bear. The molotov ribbentrop pact was a result of europe's refusal of USSR's proposal of anti-axis alliance prior to that, and when europe refused, they were still totally unprepared for war so they needed to stall germany for as long as possible (thus came Molotov Ribbentrop pact).

@@57thorns That's true, but most probably they would fall out of favor of each other very quickly this way or another. Their ideologies are like day and night, completely incompatible. My guess is that IF germany remained oblivious to the whole thing and just went back to their own thing, the soviets would get ready for war and then would sweep over germany and all the areas it had annexed (with or without day D), and after it was all over, they would either install socialist governments across those liberated states or otherwise aid in their would be worker revolutions.

well technically they were allies at the beginning of ww2 with their pact between them basically stating i wont attack if you dont. stalin allowed germany to test their "non" military vehicles and aircraft in the soviet union because of the treaty of versailles stating germany must demilitarize and were forbid of forming another military force. then germany launched operation barbarossa and invaded the soviet union effectively ending the pact on june 22nd, 1941.

You should take a look at Operation Vegetation to understand why Germany would never be able to conquer the British Isles. All the Americans did was save the Germans from being irradiated with anthrax bombs which would've killed millions, because it gave us an opportunity for D-Day.
