Zachery Taylor wouldn’t become president because there would be no Mexican-American war that would make him famous. The Whig Party was essentially the proto-Republican Party, and if it survived I’d say a Whig Lincoln might be the president instead of a Republican Lincoln. Also I doubt Henry Clay would have ran for Re-Election as Whigs were opposed to 2 term presidency’s.

For when texas independiced, mexico had already left it's imperialistic ideals, at least in comparisson to the usa, so it is kinda inaccurate for you to call it the mexican empire, bc those things lasted even less than texas itself.

These are nitpicks but henry clay would not be a candidate for reelection if he was elected, as the whig party platform at the time basically prohibited their presidents running for reelection while in office, due to concerns about the overreach of the executive branch that was apart of their doctorine. He would be very old when leaving office in this scenario at the age of 70, so even if he could run with his party behind him its not probable that clay would do so. It is also unlikely that a whig would win south carolina, considering the state was heavily democratic back in the jacksonian times. Finally, the whig party was mainly based in the north with its southern component sort of in the minority in comparison, and with a divide between whigs and republicans, the democrats would very likely win in 1856, especially after being out of office for almost 20 years. The best way to do this scenario is to start with William H. Harrison not dying, thus the issue of texas annexation is pushed back without the presidency of John Tyler.
