The void dragon was my first thought as well. For me thier are two possibilities the first being mars actually teleports and the void dragon somehow stays due to the mystery of his own power, or two he teleports with mars and somehow the binding that imprisons him is slackened due to the stop of time in teleportation.

As interesting as the notion of all this political turmoil is, it feels like we glossed over the consequences of a successful teleportation on the phyiscal universe; where the hell WOULD they teleport an entire world to without causing some kind of massive gravitational fuckfest? If they drop Mars in orbit around just about any star, it's going to cause disruptions for local space immediately, drawing in /tossing around any local asteroids and other small forms of debris and even risking planetary collision should they drop it too close to the orbit of an existing planet in that system. DDITIONAlly, depending on its placement, the planet could either cook or freeze depending on if they balls up the placement of Mars within this new star' Goldilocks Zone, resulting in a horrific death for every last thing on the planet's surface. This is doubly true for if they were to teleport it to some location outside of the life-giving warmth of a star and just drop their tin-plated asses in interstellar space away from a star; flash freeze. Additional note: How well do these teleporters handle the transportation of the planet's atmosphere? I doubt the orks care terribly much as they can potentially bullshit their way through such concerns with a strong enoufgh belief that there's plenty of air, but that would not work for humanity.

I think you missed a pretty major consequences of the teleportation of Mars; orbital mechanics. If you remove the mass of Mars from the solar system it would affect the orbits of Earth and the asteroid belt. Jupiter would fling asteroids all over the place, endangering every celestial body in the system, and attract a whole bunch of them putting Titan in the crosshairs of a couple of thousands of asteroids. If they fail and blow up Mars this problem might even get worse, since I'm pretty sure Mars out-masses the asteroid belt, orbits wouldn't get as affected, but it would be like setting of a planet-sized Claymore-mine in the solar system (like you said) I need to fire up Space Engine and delete Mars, and blow it up.... for science 🤯

I think you may be overstating the effect on the asteroid belt somewhat. Mars and Jupiter do not share a resonant orbit so it is quite rare for both bodies to affect the belt in the same places, if your premise is to be taken seriously then why are similar effects not observed when Jupiter and Mars on opposing sites of the sun?

Without the vast manpower of the Imperium, the Mechanicus would quickly find they just killed off their only real means of securing their existence in a galaxy literally going to Hell. The best they can hope for is constantly skipping about the galaxy, maybe even trying to get to another galaxy, which has been said to be pointless as the Orks and Tryanids are EVERYWHERE at least in the local Galaxy Group, our neighborhood of galaxies, roughly 10Mly across, bound by gravity, and should be largely unaffected by the expansion of the universe at least until "the age of Iron Stars", trillions of years from now. The Mechanicus would become cosmic hobos within a few millennia and likely wiped out by Orks, Tyranids, something else, or both if they teleported Mars and decided this is what they shall do from now on. However, if the Mechanicus realized this was possible, if not a likely outcome, then they would actually share the technology with the IoM and the Imperium would suddenly be wildly more capable of defending their worlds. No longer requiring the Warp for transportation and possibly even communication, a steady rate of improvement in the standard of living in the IoM would be noticeable over the course of mere centuries. Such is the case when goods and services can be shipped and received quickly and reliably. Because voyages would take less time, and likely have the luxury of ever better safety systems and technology, crew fatalities from, for example, simply refueling their ships, would decline enormously. Not traveling through the Warp puts valuable space between Humanity and Chaos at least slowing the bleed through to Material space. With this improvement in the standard of living, calls for making systems more self-reliant where and when possible will come up. Since IoM ships can easily drop in quickly at the first sign of dissent, they see no reason not to let most systems become self-reliant such that they can survive having major trade routes and agri-worlds forge worlds etc being cut over or destroyed. The IoM would also be able to respond to threats, bring reinforcements and relief much more quickly and reliably, with far greater coordination. As the IoM becomes more secure they are less aggressively Xenophobic and more willing to treat with some races such as the Eldar. Although due to some diplomatic and political faux pas, the Tau get left out in the cold. One wonders how the Eldar managed not to shot themselves in the foot this time. However IoM Xenophobia will take centuries even millennia to fully dial back to merely being cautious of the Xenos. The Adeptus Astartes and Primaris would face a culling of their most needlessly dangerous chapters as the IoM does not have to "throw up hands" at not being able to look over their shoulders and make sure they are not being a bunch of mass-murderers in apocalyptic battle armor because no one is around to tell them to stop killing everything because "today is kill everything pink day". While some of the somewhat vicious chapters are retained, mostly the more straight-laced, "actually good, good guy" chapters go unaffected by this culling. But being able to enforce discipline and uniformity in the ranks from chapter to chapter, while being able to reliably monitor and direct them, becomes radically easier. The Martians almost made a stupid as hell mistake. The sheer benefits of sharing the technology would far outweigh taking and keeping it only for themselves. Also, what happened to Venus? Is it still a hell planet or was something fruitful done to the planet. One would think that before or during the "Dark Age of Technology": Venus would be terraformed and be almost a second Earth.
@youtubevoice1050
@youtubevoice1050 5 жыл бұрын
Very good points. However, you are assuming teleportation is a safer way of traveling. Is it really? A lot can go wrong. The energy requirements for moving entire ships would be truly gigantic and become a hazard themselves. In regards to Venus, terraforming wouldn't be enough, considering how close the planet is to the sun. Venus would require something like a planet-sized semi-transparent sun shield to reduce radiation and heat. Jupiter and Saturn have really high gravity. I don't think I've ever read anything about other planets in the solar system being inhabited besides some of their moons.

@@youtubevoice1050 This is WH40K, we don't even concern ourselves with the accuracy of power figures never mind where the power comes from. But really, I don't think the IOM or Admech would build anything smaller than a Dwarf Planet with teleportation capabilities. The Power source might be that huge. Ships would have to dock on, in, or very close to the teleporting ship. I'm going to assume that the kinds of thought gone into terraforming Venus just was not done when this mythos was first written. but building essentially a massive sun shade in geosync orbit between Venus and the Sun would allow the planet to cool down. The process would take a few centuries 300-400 years on the outside, allowing the surface to eventually be cool enough even cold enough to allow humans to surface make planet fall there. Meanwhile a considerable orbit infrastructure would be built over Venus. If any effort were made to install Earth life on a now habitable Venus, I could see the planet seeing very few surface residents. The Emperor would have made Venus his vacation planet.

@@hithere5553 The Emperor banned Psykers because of Magnus the Red's wreck his webway project. It is distressingly that simple. Otherwise, the peopel who evenutall made up the Imperium on their own were culling psykers because they were seen as evil for, usually very accidentally and innocently summoning Chaos. He banned Religion because he believed it lead to violence and degradation of humanity. Ironically it was religion that one keeps him alive, and two keeps Humanity from being eaten alive by the galaxy at large. Even if the Emperor were to die and be reborn in the warp or is a perpetual and is allowed to die so he can recover (Highlander problem), religion may be the only way to keep humanity safe and sane in the face of Chaos. The biggest issue is then how to ween humanity off the violence kick often attributed to Religion. Because the Emperors's Secularity was not accomplished without copious amounts of violence initiated and escalated by teh Emperor and his secular agenda. Ultimately, Humans will just fight and kill each other because of Tribalism, and religion simply allowed for the creation of yet another tribe to kill in the name of and Secularity was just another tribe.

Weather they remained allies with Terra or not, someone in the 40k universe having reliable FTL travel would be a major game-changer. Whatever faction ended up with that, be it the Mechanicus alone, or the Mechanicus combined with Terra would suddenly become far more powerful, due to their mobility.

I'm curious as to whether or not the teleporters would even work on such a large scale without the presence of orkoids. We've seen numerous examples of ork technology simply not functioning and often destroying itself in fantastical fashion when not being used by an ork. With the teleportation of Phobos, if I have my timing correctly, this happened during the War of the Beast, and could be explained as occurring during the single greatest WAGH in known human history. Side note: Phobos being teleported, potentially through the Warp, would be one hell of a way to push the DOOM universe into 40k.

In my mind, if the Mechanicus were able to refine this Orkish teleportation technologey to function for them, then said technologey should be implemented onto Imperium ships. If Imperium ship were able to conduct FTL travel without having to use The Warp then not only would space travel be much safer, but they would no longer have to depend on the Astra Nomicon which would ease the burden on the Empeor Of Mankind. However this plan would need intelligent thinking on the Imperium's part, something they tend to sorely lack.

all ork "technology" is simply an extension of their waaagh field. whatever it is, it simply does what the orks believe it will do, and nothing they believe it will not do. and reverse engineering of this "technology" is essentially impossible, as it is rarely ever actually constructed in a form that would actually be capable of functioning as intended, or at all, without the presence of an ork with his waagh field to believe that it will work. if the mechanicus was able to reverse engineer this tech, then either they have the ability to somehow generate a waagh field, or the technology is not proper orky.

@@catnium they could build a device to mimic the end result, theoretically. but they would be starting from scratch in terms of the base framework. essentially it would be like watching a sorcerer conjure warp fire from his hands. then trying to build a machine to do the same thing. technological innovation is not exactly the mechanicus' strong point. in fact, its outright heretical. so the odds of them doing so, and on such a massive scale and as a unified whole, are essentially null. but they do accept studying xeno tech to understand how it works, its just that cant really happen with proper orky tech. and thus we get back to my original point

From what I gather, ork tech is shabby because of incomplete or damage knowledge encoded inches are genes. So their tech not working right is a byproduct of this and not the intended result of their creators. This would mean that if a wall got big enough they could possibly produce fully-functioning tech that's only strengthened by their field of influence.

My theory is that as orks get close to a complete waaagh saturation they enter a phase of rapid physical and mental evolution so that their technology becomes truly functional but impossible to reverse engineer due to unrivaled complexity. At that phase the wagh field stops being used to make technology work and instead becomes an infinite feedback loop of unstoppable evolution that feeds back into itself. I believe that this is the true threat of the orks: unrivaled and unlimited evolution.

While the fleets of the Imperial Navy would be rendered obsolete for warp travel, their other functions would be completely uninhibited. While deploying an "attack moon" into a system sounds like a neat way to transport troops, even within a solar system space is massive. I have a feeling that such technology would not be used for the trivial purpose of just moving such a significant mass from one part of the system to the other, and so naval vessels would still be required for intrasystem travel. In addition, the vast size of such an object would wreck havoc on the orbital mechanics of a planet's moons if it had any, and so would be very likely to destroy any planet it would be sent to protect. It also makes for a relatively simple target for relativistic kinetic kill vehicles to destroy. A fleet of ships on the other hand are much smaller and more nimble targets, while also being able to respond to developments within a system quickly to deliver troops or firepower. Therefore I would say that the Navy would not be obsolete, merely more focused on combat. It would likely be able to do without warp engines or gellar fields, saving much tonnage for other systems.

The miss mass of Mars would radically destabilize the centers of mass in the Sol System and probably cause massive gravitational imbalances. That could have cracked Terra in half or cause Luna to crash into Terra too. Nothing like this happens in nature so there would be no way to know. But being 40K assume the worst possible for all involved. Like Luna slowing crashing into Terra (just not all it once, like the collision would take 10's of thousands of years even after Luna touch the surface, the Void Dragon walking up and massive Warp tears break out all around Mars as the Ruinous powers take advantage of Mars being away from the light of the Golden Throne.

In addition to all those possibilities, another potential consequence I could see happening is strife within the Mechanicus itself once it becomes known that Mars got teleported using tech reverse-engineered from Ork tech. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the use of alien technology considered heresy to the Mechanicus? Plus there's also the matter of leaving the body of the Omnissiah behind on Terra which would undoubtedly anger portions of the Mechanicus; plus if Terra fell, the Emperor along with it, there'd be the small matter of another warp rift opening up where Terra used to be, plus who knows how that'd effect the Void Dragon's prison...

Aside from the political and astronomical effects, wide spread planetary teleportation could be a great defensive tactic. Imagine some defenseless argi-world about to be invaded by some horrible threat only for it to blip out of existence and be replaced by a fortress world that can easily overcome the threat. if you want to take it a step further, using teleportation for stellar manipulation and moving whole systems could consolidate the fractured M42 Imperium. Retreat to only one or two sectors without the lose of resources and shorten supply lines.

My question is, how is it possible to back engineer Ork technology at all, considering the link between Ork Tech and the Waaagh-Field? We've always been under the impression that Orky tech was really just random bits of scrap, hammered together and it was the reality warping effects of the Waaagh that actually made it work. Does this mean that the only reason the Mechanicus were able to teleport Phobos and advance their experiments as far as they did, is because the Orks believed that they would? Maybe even counted on it? If the Beast was showing a level of strategic sophistication that went so far beyond that of any other Warboss in history, could this even have been another grand strategy, to split the Imperium and Mechanicus from one another?

im under the impression that waaaagh isnt magic but replaces the tedium of experiment and trial and error that humans deal with. an ork cant pick up a piec of metal and turn it into a lazer rifle, they just uncannily can take a bunch of scraps and turn that into technology. the teleporters are probably 80/90% useable, understandable tech by humans and the rest waaaaagh fuckery
