I think I'd go with Fighting type for Koji. Fighting is often considered to represent pure, heroic tropes, which would honestly better match up to light than Fairy would anyway. Best part: you still get Lucario as the ace.

The reason we didn’t do fighting is because Lucario is one of the only fighting type Pokémon that matches up with Koji. On top of that, all of Koji’s Digimon forms have steel heavily incorporated.

I love the choices for everyone. Bug for JP was a alternative because of the Heracross add-in, especially. I definitely think the Flying type would have been better for Zoe, but Fairy was a sound decision and I respect the reasoning for it. Personally, I would have gone with Pigeot, Hawlucha, and Togekiss. Pigeot's wings match Zephyrmon's I like Hawlucha for its acrobatics and heavy kicks, which is very much Kazemon's specialty too. And I think the Togekiss choice was perfect for your reasons. But after looking at the whole thing, I agree that Fairy fits better because Zoe is very feminine herself as a prominent character point, so the inclusion of Gardevoir to emphasize that works very well.

I think there could also be a case of Kouichi being a ghost type gym leader, due to what happens in the show. Like, a potential team if both ghosts and dark types are used: - Mandibuzz - Zoroark - Grimmsnarl - Mimikyu: A main point of Mimikyu's pokedex entry is their envy towards Pikachu. As Kouichi's envy and resentment towards his brother caused for him to become Duskmon, a Mimikyu is a good fit for him - Gengar: A very popular theory is Gengar being Clefable's shadow, which ties in nicely with Kouichi often hiding in the shadows as Duskmon or even when he was following his brother - Chandelure: A lot of Chandelure's pokedex entries mention that it burns the soul away, leaving only the body. This is a good homage to how Kouichi's soul was separated from his body

I suppose Arcanine does work, given that for a specific counterpart to Flamemon you could use Growlithe (loyal to and protective of its friends even in the face of its own fears). This actually was used as a plot point in Legends: Arceus (and we even saw an Arcanine slip into a temporary madness due to a power surge, much as BurningGreymon did in his debut episode). You do make a point about Infernape, though, given that Chimchar could also be used as a counterpart due to a vague resemblance and the fact that Ash's Chimchar underwent a similar growth arc over the course of the DPP seasons as Takuya did in that particular episode...

I watched this Season alongside the Tamers Season maybe 2 years ago. One of my First 2 Digimon Animes in my Life. My favorite character in this season based on personality and it's story itself. I live Takuya's personality but Koiji is the most. He's not definitely died on its original timeline. Until, they are re-entering their original home with same time and yep, he's alive. Yes, he's have a different nightmares and bad dreams to became a bad person at first. I remembered all of these characters after I watched this video!

Honestly, I think you could've used the 4 other kids (Katsuharu, Teppei, Teruo or Chiaki) as gym leaders since it's a pretty popular headcanon that they are supposed to be the wielders of the remaining Spirits. Also argument can be made to give Koji and Takuya additional Pokemon for EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon and Flamon for Takuya since you took into account Strabimon. Also potentially additional Pokemon for the ancient warriors? Just a thought. But it's something that could bring the total up a bit more. That way you could have gym leaders with different amount of Pokemon to simulate how the amount goes up in the games, starting with 2 or 3 and making its way up to 5, you know? All in all, I think Takuya and Koji could have 6 Pokemon for the Rookie, Human, Beast, Fusion, Ancient and Unified evolutions JP, Tommy, Zoe and Koichi could have 4 each for the Human, Beast, Fusion and Ancient evolutions And potentially Katsuharu, Teppei, Teruo and Chiaki 3 each for Human, Beast and Ancient since the corrupt warriors have no canon fusion. Of course these are just my thoughts, and I understand if there aren't enough Pokemon to fill these slots. Edit: I just watched the first What if Digidestined were Gym leaders and heard the though process of giving only 3-4 Pokemon to each person, so ignore the team of 6 ideas...

So just like on the other videos I'm doing this a little differently where I'm going to try to match a Pok'emon to each part of their Digimon evolution line. I'm not going to stick to any specific type, my I can have up to six Pok'emon on the team but not more, and just to make things extra hard on myself I can only choose Pok'emon that would have been available in Generation 4. I can pick Pok'emon from earlier generations though I'll try to stick inside of Gen 4 as much as possible but I will not pick anyone from later generations.... and Legendary Pok'emon are not off limits. Takuya: Chimchar, Magmortar, Charizard, Blaziken, Groudon, and Heatran Chimchar I think perfectly represents Flamon. Magmotar I put there cause there's not a lot of humanoid Pok'emon to choose from, I did consider Blaziken but he ended up being my representation for Aldamon. Charizard... I can't seem to resist putting a Charizard on any Gogglehead's team considering how they all seem to have Dragon inspired Digimon and Charizard looks the most like a Dragon despite not actually being a dragon type. Groudon is there because the big shoulder pads on EmperorGreymon kind of remind me of him and again not a lot of humanoind Pok'emon to choose from. And then Heatran seemed like a good representative for AncientGreymon. While I wasn't trying to give him just Fire types I did use a lot of red Pok'emon which except for Groudon happen to mostly be fire types so it fits him really well. Koji: Lucario, Absol, Glaceon, Blastoise, Arceus, and Suicune I had a much harder time with this line because again there are not a lot of humanoid Pok'emon and Koji has almost his entire line as humanoid Digimon. So Lucario was an obvious choice being the only one who perfectly fit that theme. Absol, Glaceon, and Suicune are all kind of blue-ish dog-like Pok'emon who kind of fit the line. Blastoise I threw in cause BeoWolfmon has a giant cannon arm and he has those cannons on his back. Arceus I threw in because the ring around him reminds me of the ring on Susanoomon's back. I didn't put a Susanoomon reference in Takuya's team and I also thought Arceus just fit Koji better anyway.

J.P.: Heracross, Blastoise, Rhyperior, and Pinsir Heracross just fits too perfectly not to use him. His beast spirit looks like a tank and Blastoise also reminds me of a tank so I had to use him again. Rhyperior is here I had to have at least one who's actually a Gen 4 Pok'emon and with RhinoKabuterimon it was kind of clear the only gen 4 that would fit was one based on an actual Rhino rather than the beetle. And Pinsir is there because the lower half of AncientKabuterimon has pinchers like him. I could really fit any Electric types on his team but technically his spirit is also needed to form Susanoomon so you could give him Arceus with the Electric plate to make him an Electric type. Zoe: Clefable, Staraptor, Togekiss, and Gardevoir Clefable is kind of obvious, her human spirit is a fairy and Clefable is the most "fairy" of them all. I considered using Clefairy to really make that point but Clefable has larger wings on it's back. The beast spirit has a bird-like look to it but not really any specific kind of bird so I just decided to use the regional bird for Gen 4 which is Staraptor, Togekiss I chose for the same reason explained in the video, and Gardevoir I chose because all her Digimon are very humanoid female looking plus AnchientKazemon is holding a fencing sword which ironically reminded me of the male version of Gardevoir who was also introduced in gen 4 but he didn't really fit for Zoe. Tommy: Teddiursa, Abomasnow, Prinplup, and Piloswine His human form is basically a teddy bear. Abomasnow made the most sense for his beast form. The hybrid form is a penguin and I have no idea how the hybrid of a bear and a yeti makes a Penguin but there's a literal penguin as one of the starters so I had to use it here. I looked at the entire evolution line by the way and the fully evolved form looked too serious for the Digimon it's suppose to represent and the pre-evolved form looked too small and cute for the Digimon so the middle stage seemed like the best option. And the video kind of already explains why Piloswine is a good pick.

Koichi: Houndoom, Honchkrow, Umbreon, Luxray, Weavile, and Meowth Duskmon is based on a Cerberus which Houndoom is also based on. There's a better pick for Velgemon in later generations but with my self imposed limitations Honchkrow was the best option available. It gets harder after the corrupted spirits because the rest of them are all based on lions. I threw Umbreon is just as a reference to the fact that I also gave his brother an Eeveelution as well. Luxray actually some what resembles a lion and is my best option given my self imposed limitatons so I put him in there. I started to notice that Rhihimon and AnchientSphinxmon also had egyiptian elements to their designs and Weavile being humanoid like Rhihimon, being a dark type, and having that thing on it's head kind of like an Egyptian headdress kind of fits. Meowth is actually suppose to be quadrupedal except for Team Rocket's Meowth and the coin on his head is also based on a Egyptian design. I'm noticing this time around that my self inflicted challenge of trying to stay within the same generation is actually becoming less of a challenge each time I do one of these. Whenever you do Data Squad I'll be able to include all the way to Gen 5 and I don't think any Digimon is going to stump me by that point. Though I'm not as familiar with Data Squad cause I HATED that series.

With Takuya I'd for sure give him either Salazzle or Charizard given that his attacks as well as one of the songs in Frontier reference salamanders (Charizard evolving from Charmeleon, plus Takuya's forms mostly being pretty draconic). Also giving them all the same amount of Pokemon I feel is unrepresentative of how unequal the mon distribution actually was in Frontier. Takuya and Koji probably would be getting full teams.

Not giving Takuya and Koji 4 mons as a reference to the Transcendent Forms was a mistake. Even though Koichi is the Legendary Warrior of Darkness, when purified his power changes to be more Shadows then pure Darkness, unfortunately all of the moves that have to deal with shadows are of the Ghost-type and not the Dark-type. Not including the Shadow moves.
