Just a bit of correction: The Second Wave of the Militia Movement was still very much a thing before Ruby and Waco, as it mostly came about after the fracturing of Posse Comitatus and the Covenant, Sword, and Arm of the Lord(CSA), and several Freemen groups thanks to raids conducted by the government in the 80s. Lot of the issues that lead up to the formation of the 2nd Wave were down to gun control legislation(GCA 68/FOPA 86), the ongoing Sagebrush Rebellion, the Conservative Revolution, and the boatloads of disgruntled American veterans from the war in Vietnam. None of those would have been taken out of the picture with Ruby Ridge or Waco not occurring, if anything it would have likely meant that the 2nd Wave of the US Militia Movement would have moderated into mainstream politics similar to how the 3rd Wave(2006 ~ 2017) and 4th Wave(2017 ~ Present) have. You would likely see a shift away from Christian Nationalism during the years that would have been the 3rd Wave, and seen more activity in the American SW with a renewed vigor in the Sagebrush Rebellions(see: Bundy family) and also see greater emphasis on Watchmen/Border groups. Now one interesting thing is the fact that OKC would have never occurred. That fact alone would have a *massive* ripple effect. Without the backlash caused by domestic extremism, it'd be likely that their would have been even more relaxed regulations and restrictions leading up to 9/11, possibly creating an even worse 9/11 scenario and even further bloodlust on part of the American public towards the Middle East and as a result of the pullout from the Middle East in the 2020s, I have to imagine that would start a far more radicalized militia movement with disgruntled American veterans seeing the Democrat Party/liberal policies of the 90s and early 00s leading to the failure of the US military. Pmuch exactly how Vietnam went down.

Let's just say Waco and Ruby ridge don't happen. Another event would have taken it's place only just later. With the street crime and Riots ravaging the cities and urban areas at that time. Also let's not forget the Columbine shooting. The Federal government would have still passed the crime bill and it would have pushed for way more gun control just by exploiting any one of those events. Even if Waco or Ruby ridge didn't happen the government agencies would have still viewed these militia groups as a domestic terrorist threat. The government doesn't like militia's or citizens with firearms. It views them as a threat to their power and authority over the country and it's people.

What I see here is the FBI, and Federal government interactions with these domestic groups operating on the same lines as do say local law enforcement and black communities. A lot of misinformation, mistrust and at least where the law enforcement /Federal governments are concerned, a tendency to escalate the use of force with a view to deal with a threat which may or may not be actually present. The answer for both law enforcement and the Federal government in these respective situations is to simply watch and observe. Be present where they exist but do nothing until you actually see imminent harm, remembering that your job as law enforcement or the state in dealing with criminal activity is not to prevent it so much as to react to it when it has already taken place unless the imminent activity is actually a life threating one.

I would have liked you to go deeper about Al Qaeda later, because I would assume the militia movement would get a lot less traction in the time after the Embassy bombings, and at least after 9/11, as right-wingers would not want to associated with anything that smelled "terrorist". Given this more negative discourse I would question if the militia movement would ever have taken off. Especially considering how 9/11 seemingly improved the ground work for peace between ETA and Spain, and IRA and UK. And I would also like to see how all of this would play out further, especially the 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections. Are we talking 8 years of Al Core before 8 years of Hillary, and then what? Trump on a much more moderate platform? And Trump light then winning again in 2020? Imagine Trump hitting term limits, and wanting to stay on, how would that play out?

Names we all knew in he 90s but which have been erased from our collective memories by 9/11 There highest impact was giving us new phrases like "Drank the Kool-Aid " A much BIGGER social impact would be Columbine or Titanic or Rodney King. Those evens made actual change. So did AIDS and Cartoon All Stars, the Fall of he Berlin Wall and GTA , the Simsons, Night Trap, McCarthy, Saddam Hussein, he Challenger. History has BIGGER moments. THIS was a small impact that did verry little.
