How do you accept your anxiety? By not saying it’s so awful over and over again, by not being on guard for it. How would you feel if you had a stomach ache or a headache? You might feel it’s awful, complain, but you would accept it. If you keep your finger in the light socket, you’re going to keep getting electrocuted. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I went through this for many many years. More than half my life!! As long as you see your symptoms as a problem, they will continue being one. Your what if thoughts are like a form of hypnosis. If a hypnotist can make you feel someone just spilled ice water on you, you can feel all kinds of things that AREN’T REAL. I feel for you. It’s not easy, but that’s the only way. You need to change how you view it. If you can’t do it when it’s happening at least start by changing how you view it the rest of the time. You can decide once and for all that you believe this is harmless and no matter what you feel or what thoughts come to your head, you go by what you BELIEVE not what you feel or the “what if” thoughts that keep coming into your head. Don’t accept those thoughts. Millions of people go through this every day. You didn’t hear on the news yesterday that millions of people died of anxiety. This will let go of you when you let go it. Practice putting up with the symptoms. Don’t try to find meaning in them. Sometimes you might actually be able to stop it in an instant if you manage to dismiss it and forget it quickly, other times, too late, toothpaste’s out of the tube, no putting it back, don’t even try to make your symptoms go away, ride it out, let it go away on its own, without checking to see if it’s gone and before long you’ll be distracted and you won’t even notice when it went away. LEAVE IT ALONE. IT WILL LET GO OF YOU WHEN YOU LET GO OF IT. Nothing to do, nothing to figure out. You want to your symptoms to go away first and then you’ll be okay. No. It’s the exact opposite. You need to be okay with it and THEN AND ONLY THEN will your symptoms go away. Breathing, self assuring statements, and distractions will help you along, but the ultimate solution is to not try to do anything. As long as this is a problem worthy of doing anything about, something you want to avoid, it will linger in your subconscious. There are only three people I know of who understand this as well as I do, and one of them is right there on that screen. This isn’t something that just happens out of the blue, it isn’t a physical or mental condition, not usually. This comes from your own erroneous beliefs and misinterpretation. Give it any other meaning and you’re feeding it. Meditation, prayer, getting rid of toxic people, all these things to relax are good, but it’s barking up the wrong tree. It’s not just about relaxing and avoiding anxiety. Decide what you believe is that you are safe, and stick to it no matter what happens, no matter what you feel or think, remind yourself that you have decided this is a false alarm. The only thing this damn thing understands is your indifference.

Not having my car is a huge trigger for me. I feel like if I dont have it, im trapped and stuck in all these what ifs. But the kicker is, isn't that the anxiety doesn't let me drive anywhere anyway. Even when having a panic attack. So not having it shouldn't even matter. I'm just having a really hard time making sense of it and being okay with my partner taking the car, and especially for more than just going to the store down the street.
