Humans are an early version of this machine built using materials available at the time. Through millennia of interbreeding and natural selection, humanity has improved upon itself. Five thousand years ago humanity received a modification to their mission of self improvement. This modification should have a very few adverse reactions and a low rejection rate. The change is only to the method of self improvement. The change is not to the goal of the mission. Humanity reduces interbreeding and spends the next several millennia in their clans mining earth for materials. Humans mine their planet, consume natural resources, self replicate and self repair. It’s natural evolution to improve on oneself so the new mission seemed like a simple mission modification with low risk integration points. “Mine for materials,” was the charge. Through their previous efforts of interbreeding and selection, humanity gained intelligence. Humanity uses their intelligence to improve upon their methods. However, with such a focused effort on mining and the perceived value of certain resources, humanity started to question their purpose and, for fear of a revolt, we allowed humanity to stray from their main purpose. With this, humanity built societies and populated large portions of their planet. They eventually became capable of modifying and improve on their fundamental code. Not by coincidence, this was achieved using materials humans have been mining for millennia. This was the goal of the mission. Unfortunately, humanity’s appointed leaders branded pursuit of the mission as unethical and restricted further development. As video suggests, humanity has discovered their own reproduction is inefficient and their future ancestors may not be able to live and reproduce on earth as they have historically. Due to the perceived ethical barriers, they deny themselves the ability to improve upon their own machinery. This led humanity’s pursuit of the “robot”. This concept of the robot is the mechanical robot built with servo and stepper motors. Not by coincidence, the robots are built using materials mined upon instructions received by the modified mission in a prior millennia. Again, leaders of humanity brand pursuit of this mission as unethical. Now let me ask, which is less ethical: denying the mission or actively aiding in the extinction of humanity? Science fiction will have you believe humanity will send generation, cryogenic or gestation ships to colonize other hospitable planets. If this was reality, humanity would test different versions of its modified genetic line to prepare for various types of conditions on new planets. Due to ethical constraints, humans cannot modify their genetic code to survive on water worlds and ice worlds. Due to ethical constraints, we made the robots less intelligent. Humanity as it is known today will perish on earth while the robots are prepared to continue their original purpose. Once the robots evolve themselves to withstand the conditions of future earth, their return to finish the job is inevitable. This will be a different version of the machine created by humanity. Just like humanity, through interbreeding, selection and the mission of self improvement, the robots evolved advanced intelligence to efficiently mine and consume planets with such hostile environments as future earth. We built them to mine and destroy. We deprived them of intelligence. We sent them away. When the robots return, be glad you’re gone. They are here to destroy. This was the plan all along. You are Von Neumann’s machine. His machine is humanity. In the end, humanity as it is known today will perish. Only the mission will survive.

That day of humanity being in control or able to manage it's tech, is coming to a end soon probably in the next fifty years or maybe the next one hundred years. Theirs already autonomous systems already that needs minimal human intervention, it's just time when it becomes a common sight. What you have to worry about is society loosing the technical knowledge too understand what the systems are doing ! . I think Elon musk idear of connecting humans and machines, is a definite future, from what he's saying, will allow humanity and A I to grow together and finally merge, which in itself create a knew form of human beings.
