A volcano is one of the most unforgiving natural phenomenons on Earth. If you were to fall into its magma-filled center, your body would quickly bubble up, and disappear without a trace. So if they're so good at getting rid of things, why aren't we using them to get rid of our garbage? Has anyone tried it before? How would we transport all our trash to them?

​@@vukasin2323you are not polluting fertilable soil around you? Think, Jesse. Volcanos are a waste of space for human activity. That is why nobody lives near them. Dumping them into inactive volcano is making use of a space that won't be used anyways. Since the soil is dead thanks to volcano, you can't use it and live near a volcano. The second thing is that it would be easier to push it into inactive volcano than dig hundreds of kms wide and hundreds of meters deep. Time consuming, ineffective and requires a lot of money to power machinery and to use it. Nature already dug a hole for you, the volcano.

there are several misconceptions here, so let me correct them; 1- 2:27 you don't drive up and dump your garbage, directly from the truck in to the volcano, you will need to build a facility that has a type of fire proof chute,+++generally something made out of terracotta should do, or, if not, a steel pipe sandwiched with aerojell between the inner and outer layer to prevent the trash from melting on to the pipe, BUT, there is more than one way to to this, the other way would be to pack the garbage in to cardboard tubes the size of rail road tanker cars and slide them down the chute and then the drop directly in to the lava incinerating the garbage and the tube as well. 2- 3:28 the resulting "smoke" would be virtually harmless, most of the materials that were made of plastics and other plastic components would be incinerated safely without toxic residue, most of the toxic chemicals incinerate at around 1500degrees give or take a few hundred degrees, most lava is around 2 thousand degrees thus incinerating the the toxins, and NO, NO ONE IS SUGGESTING WE BURN NUCLEAR WASTE. the garbage tubes would be dropped in to the lake of lava and while the outer cardboard burned, the tube would last long enough to sink below the lava allowing the tube to burn evenly and incinerating the plastics and the toxic chemicals safely. the "polluting remints" would be the metals and glass that SOME things are made of, those materials need a higher temperature to melt. 3- 3:48 shipping the garbage there would create MUCH less of an environmental impact than just burring it in the ground, all that garbage would decay, causing a release of methane which is more than 25 times as potent as carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere, so the co2 created by shipping and burning it could even reduce the green house gasses and create a reduction in global temperatures.

Mauana Loa in Hawai'i is an ideal place for this volcano trash disposal idea. It is a big shield volcano, it is relatively stable, and it is definitely active. However, even it releases so much toxic gas, the Park Service had many roads closed in the area when I visited. But more importantly, the Native Hawaiian population would never allow it, because they believe the Fire Goddess Pele lives in that particular crater. In addition, even in its natural state, the fumes from Mauna Loa regularly spread at least 100 miles, affecting visibility on the other side of Hawai'i island, and even Oahu and Kauai. So that's why it has never been considered, even though it would be economic for Hilo to do.

Probably what we actually need is a subduction zone, where things go into the lava core, as opposed to a volcano, where it wants to come out. Unfortunately those are usually under the ocean. So in a way, we’re sort of doing that already.

You're not really trying. Compress the trash into cubes. Build train tracks to about 10 miles from the volcano. Then use a massive sling shot to toss the cubes several miles into the volcano. As the eruptions grow keep throwing more.
